Gran Turismo 7 should have a new HUD. I think they should come up with a new style with a slice of orange. The orange HUD was present in Gran Turismo 1, 2, 3 and GT4 prologue. The orange hud was the best hud for Gran Turismo and I think they should update it to include the gas, the gyros, and other parts of the HUD from Gran Turismo 4, 5, 6.

What do you think? Should they stay with 4, 5, 6, Go back to orange, or go with a new style?

I love analogue gauges, particularly the one from GT3. I'd love that to come back rather.

Everything else on the HUD seems like it doesn't need much change except maybe a new font.

I think as far as the HUD goes, as long it's somewhat fresh and functional, I wouldn't mind it being in the same type of style. But I think it'd be cool to see PD do a more customizable HUD. Color options were a good start, but let us move things around. Delete (with more fine specificity) individual items, perhaps. Swap the position of the tachometer and speedometer, or (and this is reaching for my tastes but I think might be well received) allowing the player to install different gauge faces on their HUD or in the cockpit.

I'd rather they made all the instruments work and give the option to change Motec pages like PCars does so you could turn off the HUD completely.

I like the HUD in GT6, it's my favourite so far in the series. However, we need to be able to toggle the whole thing on & off whilst driving, & choose to hide or display each item.

....Honestly, I can't see the simpler HUD returning. Games are growing in complexity, and with that inevitably follows a need to convey even more information to the players.

Older HUD may look clean and neat, and have a certain nostalgic value, but ultimately that isn't going to work.

The current HUD is better UX wise. Having the info on the corner simply doesn't work. It was OK for the older games but it's defenitly better to have it centered and clean.

It can be improved of course but the most important info are where they should be. :) That's my opinion.

If GT7 makes an attempt to be on par with other sims, you're going to need a lot more information on the screen while racing to do that. Possibly tire temperatures, oil and water temperatures, lap time deltas, sector time deltas, remaining fuel, etc. Old school HUDs or HUDS with large displays aren't going to work either, as they'll take up a large portion of the screen. A complete redesign is in order, of course assuming that they make a dramatic leap forward with the physics elements of the series, not a guarantee IMO.

...Well, judging from the past two console generations, PDI will change the HUD.

Whether it's for better or for worse - all we can do for now is wait-and-see.

Probably the earliest point we are going to see the new HUD (if they change it with the PS4 like they did with PS3 as JKgo mentioned) will be in the GT Academy 2015 demo (if GT7 doesn't get announced at PSX this year).

Too true! And unfortunately that applies to pretty much everything else in Gran Turismo.

...You're too pessimistic - some part of GT7 will be an improvement over its predecessor for sure. Such as its Nissan line up!!

We've already got tire temps and remaining fuel on the HUD. The rest I agree with, to an extent. All of it should be toggle-able. Personally I don't like too much info on the screen, because for me it just gets in the way.

Concerning physics, more realistic =/= better in GT's case. The game is sold to a far wider audience than, say, AC or other, more serious sims. Therefore a greater percentage of people play GT with controllers as opposed to wheels. Therefore I think it's best if GT goes for a handling model that's as close to 100% realism as possible without being extremely frustrating for those with DS4s.

You don't have tire temperatures in GT6 what you have it a graphic the shows if the tires are overheating or warm or cold... not quite the same thing. If the game happens to move to the next level then you're going to need a graphic for temperatures across the carcass and possibly brake temperatures as well and likely a more sophisticated tire wear graphic to go with it. It goes without saying that all of it should be able to be toggled on and off.

As far as physics go and realism, that's what the driver aids are for. Lots of people play sim racing games with a controller already. Sims also have a number of ways of making games friendly for new users. I'm sure that they are more than capable of designing the appropriate driver aids. A monkey could drive a car with SRF on it.

I think GT7 (Or GT Sport) should have a slightly newer HUD but keep it to the same type of style of HUD GT has always had.

You know what might be a good idea, HUD's which mimic the car you are in at the time. NFS HP2 did this and it was kinda cool.

See in the picture it mimics the actual dials of the Lamborghini even with the writing.
This would be an epic addition but would take a lot of time & effort to do it for all 1200+ cars. Only other games I remember doing this was the SHIFT series and TDU Series.

GT Legends also had a similar system with different cars having different HUD

Whatever the new format and layout, i hope PD will allow us the players to customize it, move things and toggle each individual piece of info on OR off as we please, i dont need everything o the screen and sometimes i cant just go with nothing on it...

Let me choose which important info to display, and where !

SO CAN ANYONE AT E3 right now confirm or get confirmation from PD that POV, FOV and HUD items are customizable in GTS ??!!???

If not? What are their plans?

Old HUD need to be reworked, analogue indicators was big and not informative enough. But new ones is bigger and over-informative, hope it will be customizable.

The most weird thing is repeated tachometer, speed and gear. Navigation-styled map is beautiful, but in this game you drive on closed courses and know every turn. I would prefer only big digital tachometer with speed, gear and fuel indicator only.

I always turn off the HUD

Uhm, they might? Kaz said they'd hang on to the archive. So we might see them again some day. Some of them. In fully "super-premium" quality.
