New McLaren Super Car: No Longer Just a Rumor

I said it wasn't the best....
How do you define "best" then, aside from "most succesful"?

Anyways, with all the Nürburgring craze going on, hasn't the MP4-12C done a lap yet? Kinda suprising, even though those times aren't very indicating of the cars overall performance due to the many factors involved...

Nurburgring? Don't you mean Spa?

It's turned a ton of laps now, was top of Pre-Quali timing in the wet but it appears they got caught out when the track dried up....however at the British GT race at Spa they got it on pole ahead of those successful rear engined Beetles....

And by best, well all things being equal a mid engine car is better than a rear or front engine car in the sense that if the chassis and weight were the same the MR version would trounce the others around a track.

There's no other GT race car with more victories under its belt.

Seems to work pretty well, no?
Physics says putting the engine at the back is a hindrence to performance. You can make it work, but it doesn't work on its own.

Noice  They seem to be addressing more of the criticism it's received since it's its launch.

a litte late on this thread but from whats been hinted by some of the big Auto magizine publisher's is a New Version of the F1 there working on which may basiclly be a more powerful version of the MP4 well just have to wait and see.

Yeah I heard something a long while back about a new F1, websites have been befuddling it with the MP4 mess. Hopefully the new F1 has nothing in common with this thing.

To be honest, I've never really caught on with spiders/spyders. So I can't say I'm too excited about something like this. I've always thought of the McLaren MP4-12C to be a gorgeous car (my mother thinks it's ugly). As for this crimson red color, I like it. Okay, I'll be honest- I LOVE that crimson red! I'll go with sumbrownkid and agree that this car does look awkward in spider/spyder form.

Wow, that definitely didn't work.

Making a Spyder is like adding style and character to a car. The MP4-12C never had any style or character to begin with from its original styling. This certainly did not do it any good. :ill:

Are you kidding? I think this is the only time I've ever looked at an MP412C and thought it looked fantastic.

Still... the non-romantic name will limit takers amongst the Russian gangsters and Oil Sheiks this car is targeted at.

I agree with this. The front of the normal MP4-12C was the only decent part of the car to me while everything from the windshield back was over styled and very cramped looking. The Spyder made the back even more of a mess :indiff:. At least the color is beautiful.

I thought this thread would be about the actual new McLaren supercar not the the MP4.

Is there a thread for the new car, the F1's successor?

Another bland unexciting generic soulless "MP4", re-release the F1 and concentrate on giving Lewis a competitive car.

If we compared the theoretical amount of "soul" this car has to the theoretical amount of original thoughts you have, which would be larger?
