New McLaren Super Car: No Longer Just a Rumor

I think it looks pretty nice too. I see a lot of people say it has no soul, i haven't driven it so i wouldn't know, but from a review i read a good while ago, i seem to remember them saying that the MP4 was well behaved, i suppose in the same sense that the NSX was... So for me, if it has none of what we perceive to being soul, well that's fine by me.. the way i see it is, it's a supercar that doesn't want to try and kill you, just a very usable supercar.

You make a good point in that none of us (or almost none) have driven the car, so we don't know if it is as soulless as they say. One of us might drive it and love it, but a road tester who has tested hundreds of cars would feel that it is characterless. Also, there's nothing wrong with a usable supercar. I'd love to commute in an MP4-12C.

McLaren F1 successor to have 1,000 hp, reported to debut at Pebble Beach

Sporting a "spectacular" design, the car is sure to garner attention ahead of its public debut at the Paris Motor Show.

One source also indicated the model will feature an 800 hp (597 kW / 811 PS) 3.8-liter V8 engine and a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) that can deliver an additional 200 hp (149 kW / 203 PS). This would give the car a combined output of 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1014 PS) which may enable it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 2.5 seconds.

So in other words its an MP4-12c with some very small visual tweaks, a bigger engine and KERS. Based on that "artist render".

So, if I want a new F1, I take an MP4-12C, tweak the boost and... add a roof scoop?

Score!

Where's a Nigerian Finance Minister when you need him? I have some Sheiks to sell cars to...

I think the "F1 Successor" will be more like the GT2RS is to the Carerra 2.
Lighter, more powerful, trackified MP4-12c.
MP4-12S or something like that.

I would have thought the new F1 would be a car that would mimic the original in being the most desired, prestigious and fastest car in the world. The type of car that would sit alongside the Pagani Zonda Cinque or Huayra, the Koenigsegg Agera, the Bugatti Veyron and the original Mclaren F1.

The MP4-12c is a beautiful car and I like it very much but it definitely sits in a league below those other cars.

Coming home from work today I saw an orange MP4-12c and it was gorgeous and sounded awesome.

I've seen another one in that red a few months back and it looks even more stunning in person when you see the sparkles from the sunlight.

I think any talk of Mclaren's new Enzo rival being 'the new F1' is purely media labeling. McLaren have said from the start that the 12c's chassis tub and engine will spawn other variants, one of which will sit a level above the 12c. The fact that it places it at the same level as the F1 predictably means people will compare the two and class the new car as a successor. But really the McLaren F1 was built with a very different design brief to the new car.

^Thank you for that. I'm pretty sure those were the best 12 minutes I've ever spent on YouTube.

That sound... still gets me every time. Low, gruff and aggressive... just like it should be.

Thanks for that paskowitz, but I wonder if there is too much nostalgia going on there, does a tweaked variant of the well known 3.8 litre V8 need that much cooling capacity to employ a roof scoop? Or is it just an non-essential nod to the old F1 car?

Looks to much like MP 12C on steroids. But still awesome.
