New PS4 Features and how they can benefit GT6?

About the 4k, people seriously don´t even dream about it. To move games in that beast resolution it will be almost impossible at playable rates even by the "new" PS4 hardware.
No no and no. There is no debate, no hope nothing, please guys.

Also just think with the brains as it should be...if the PS4 can make 4k just for movies...How do you think that you will be able to see 4k in a FullHD TV that does native 1080p resolution? You can´t....you´ll need a 4 k TV which you can´t even pay!

The only thing the PS4 could do in that case is what GT5 did in photomode on the PS3, you could upload UPSCALED higher resolution pictures. Which is totally different.

Also I did that the other day just to see what resolution gave me...And guess what? 3840 x 2160p Sounds familiar?

So we can upscale pictures right now on the PS3 at higher resolutions which doesn´t mean at all that the PS3 does 4k or higher than 1080p. Also this is limited by hardware (the GPU).

Now with that said, and hope you guys take off this idea off of your heads for the love of God...,Sony just uploaded tons of pictures from Killzone Shadow Fall which has nothing to do with racing but when I took a look at the resolution, guess what? Yes, again 4k resolution pictures. (and again which means nothing, but you can upscale and compress images as you could with GT5)

Here is one example:

Just stay on topic and sorry but every time I see 4k...No, okay, just no.

false, the low res/empty/bland tracks had EVERYTHING to do with the limitations of the PS3, they sacrificed everything else for more polys in the cars.

False, compare nurburgring to Laguna seca, same limitations, two entirely different quality levels.

it's certainly more dense via the surroundings but take a closer look at the textures, still loaded with jaggies and very low-res.

Texture quality, AA and AF is where we are going to be seeing massive, massive improvements. With nearly 10x as much memory bandwidth to play with 1080p is easy. Especially for a racing game that would see a lot more frame-to-frame difference than say a shooter the ability to easily access new textures will be killer. The move to such a large amount of unified and superfast memory will be making Kaz's head spin. Tears of joy are being weeped by developers right now. It seems that none of what Sony showed yesterday was running on 8GB either. One insider has claimed that one of the developers showing yesterday was still running their stuff on a 4GB devkit.
It seems only the godly Mark Cerny knew of this.

4k would be troublesome for today's high end multiple GPU solutions. Even with coding to the metal it's hard to see the GPU in the PS4 going anywhere near this with a GT type game.

It's not as if we need 4k though, not me anyway. I'm well happy with 1080p.

Do you you remember them talking about how we can do remote gameplay takeover with friends?

This sounds like a nice ghetto-future way of doing endurance races with "driver swaps" with your friends.

What's your problem?

Headlights and tail lights are very complex pieces of assembly. Therefore it's good if they're as detailed as possible because it adds a lot to the realism of the whole car. If everything on a car was detailed except the headlights it would look rather odd to say the least.

But GT5 runs at 60 fps on the PS3, right? So why would they use 4k resolution if it would mean they have to go down to 30 fps? That'd be improving things in the wrong order if you ask me. It's more important to have the game run as fast and smooth as possible than having the highest resolution possible.

Look I like graphics, but just like with Vision GT trailer that's what I'm getting at not only did we not get a good game it was no where close to that E3 2005/06 video from way back then. I'm really just saying instead of focusing so much on a headlight look at entire body of work first. Cause we'll be right back where we are today instead talking about GT7 and why it needs to be on PS5 vs. PS4 and whatever.

Lol i want to go get some popcorn but i dont want to leave the race. You mind taking over until i finish my bag of popcorn for me jeff?

:) yeah online endurance situation there for the future. I like the idea.

Its not just the quality of the cars, objects and tracks in the foreground that that 8 gig of RAM will help, with much more of the game loaded into memory and not being streamed from the disc/HD more distant features will be available immediately without having to use brutal LoD's* to keep everything within the few hundred meg GT5 had available to it.

That means reduced pop up as distant objects can be rendered in sooner and greater LoD for cars in the distance. Presuming of course that the GPU is powerful enough to exploit that awesome pool of RAM.

*in case you dont know the term, Level of Detail, in order to save resources video games will reduced the amount of poly's that make an object the further away it is from the camera. While great at keeping games playable it often introduces that annoying step where a car will be a certain distance away and will suddenly drop from being a good quality car to a obscure car shaped block. GT2 is the worst offender for poor LoD, cars 4m away from you would instantly drop from being recognizable to being a block of the same colour.

The Dual Shock 4's touchpad has the ability to make menu navigation lightning fast

Instead of pressing the D-pad or moving the joystick numerous times to reach an icon on the screen just swipe your finger across the DS4's touchpad like you would on a laptop touchpad to move the pointer to the desired icon. To select it, maybe all you have to do is double tap the touch pad with your finger tip, or maybe just pressing down and applying pressure to the touch pad selects the icon. Suddenly navigating menus is a breeze

All Playstation 4 consoles will come packaged with a mono headset. So now all online racers can communicate.

You can now download updates to the game in the background while racing

You can now upload video of your gameplay relatively easily. Did someone run you off the track in a race and you need proof so they can be added to a blacklist? Did you have a photo finish, a great save, or a great pass? Upload a video of the replay.

Like others, Im really interested in the ability to "reach out and take over the controller and assist others during difficult portions of gameplay". Online driver swaps would be a real possibility if this feature turns out to be what they say it is.

That does sound good.

Lot's of ways to incorporate the touch-pad. Shortcuts, etc, will be great 👍

More CPU, more RAM should translate to better physics and AI with more cars on track. We could also see enhanced environments, maybe like track damage and rubber build up. I don't know what else to care about really.

Agree but also better environment (trees, grass, hills, lakes, river and buildings) around track .Also detailed spectators and lot of pit crew in box and pit wall.

PS4 was never going to support 4k gaming as I and a few others have been saying for the last 6 months or more.

And seems like sony knows that gamers do not want 4K and 3D BS over 1080p 60FPS : http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/02/21/playstation-4-wont-support-4k-games-3d-not-a-focus

That's great news. 👍

Damn, Sony is hitting all the right notes right now. The way they are approaching the PS4 is so awesome!
Kazunori Yamauchi is likely to not care about those remarks. 3D will be better fit on the PS4 and that's all he can ask for; 3D isn't a fad when we're talking about simulating reality.

You think Kaz actually wanted 3D? Oh and yes, until 3D is actually 3D (ie holographic) it will remain a gimmick.

I personally think the 3D works rather well in GT5, but obviously the display tech needs a lot of work (part of the reason the Oculus Rift looks so promising as a stop gap).
It won't be a focus, because it's pretty much sorted for current tech.

That high memory bandwidth opens the door to generated content, which might allow for lots of detail, large environments, or both. Plus, all that parallel stuff devs got used to on the Cell will be easier to produce for the PS4's hardware and quite a bit more potent given the GPGPU capabilities. That opens the door for systems and simulation quite nicely, things like sound, AI and physics in particular, as far as GT is concerned (graphics are a given, I'm thinking!)

It's the simple things for me, though, the general speediness they're extolling is probably my favourite part. Everything is so slow these days, but not openly - you get unadvertised delays in every swipe, click and press, as though they're pretending there isn't a problem... At least older hardware had the sincerity to ask you to wait. We might be able to tolerate large delays and asynchronous triggering of supposedly connected events, but it's so much better when everything is more immediate and in synch.

Really?
Is that all you could think of?
How about 8GB of GDDR5 ram!!!!
How about going from 10GB/s memory bandwidth up to 176GB/s?
Remember those ****** shadows and smoke effects?
Remember any low res textures?
Only 16 NASCARs on track at one time?

Gooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrnnnnnnnnneeeee!

Take a photo of your favourite premium in photo mode.
Now imagine that image @ 60 frames per second.

I'm betting that that will be a good approximation for what GT6 will look like.
I'm getting all wet and tingly in places I shouldn't be.

Pretty is better, but as far as more cars in a race goes, 16 is plenty for me, especially in online racing- more racers = more likely some noob will crash into everyone and wreck the race...

There's a link on youtube of a 2 hour Daytona Road race on iRacing. It has over 40 drivers playing at once and it looks awesome. While I never again want the hassle that goes with Gaming PC's I do want to see improvements in consoles. Numbers on track would gice us a more authentic experience. What would also be good is the ability to augment a human field with decent AI cars.

If GT5 had this much computing power, I'd have expected a lot more.

I'm hoping for:

-43 cars at least (largest field of any series in GT5) on track at once

-more tracks; i.e. simply a question of memory/processing power

-weather & realistic weather physics on all tracks (even PGR4 beat GT5 there)

-more cars (more processing power)

-UI Menus load faster

-better servers (to be able to keep up with the new processing power)

-livery editor (easy enough for Forza on Xbox)

-real rallying physics

-real flip/roll physics

-glitch/bug fixes (no more blue phantom N24h layout tree shadows)

-dynamic racing lines (something even I can program :dopey: )
