THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION (YET) THIS IS POSTED ONLY TO OBTAIN FEEDBACK FROM THE GT4 FORUM COMMUNITY AS TO THEIR FEELINGS OF THE RULES FOR A TOTALLY ANONYMOUS RALLY BASED COMPETITION IN THE FUTURE.

There are several pros and cons about a few suggestions I made about revamping the competitions the way they are now. So I thought we'd try out some of the suggestions I made and see how they work. Please read these simple rules and let me know what you think. I don't want any posts of how much work this is gonna be or how complicated it's gonna be for the organizer (me right now). All I'd like to hear from you is whether or not YOU think these rules/steps for entry are simple enough to follow.

The rules (very simple).....

1. ONLY photomode pictures will be accepted. NO Photoshop, Photosuite or any other kind of enhancements allowed. If your picture is found to be enhanced by ANY other means than what is available within GT4, your entry will be voided.

2. Use only your own pictures. If the picture you enter is found to be someone else's, your entry will be voided.

3. After you've taken you're best Rally picture, get it hosted by Imageshack. Here's a link to upload your picture to generate the thumbnail link that will be provided by Imageshack....

http://reg.imageshack.us/

Attach a link to your picture using the one provided by Imageshack (Forum 1) AND also attach your picture AND your user ID to an email and submit it to:

GT4rallycomp@yahoo.com

(If you do not know how to attach a picture to your email, please contact me and I'll do my best to help. But most of the time your email provider will have step by step instructions on how to do this) PLEASE make sure that you have the Imageshack thumbnail link AND a copy of your picture AND your user ID attached to this email. The thumbnail link will be used if your picture is chosen to be in the Top 20 to be voted on in a poll posted after the entry deadline. IF EITHER ONE OF THE ATTATCHMENTS OR YOUR USER ID IS MISSING FROM YOUR EMAIL YOUR ENTRY WILL BE NULL AND VOID.

4. If you entry DOES NOT FOLLOW THE THEME OF THE WEEK, you will be notified and you will have ONE more chance to enter. If you submit a subsequent entry that does not follow the theme of the week you will be notified however, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED A THIRD CHANCE.

5. ONLY ONE ENTRY PER WEEK PER PERSON. ONCE A VALID ENTRY HAS BEEN RECIEVED IT MAY NOT BE CHANGED.

6. In the spirit of fairness, you MAY NOT post your entry in a thread of any kind until AFTER the winner has been selected. If your entry is found on any threads on the board during the entry and/or voting period, your entry will be voided even if it's in the Top 20. If you think you need help in choosing your entry please do so by using the PM (private message) feature here on the board.

7. A system will be used in which the winner of a previous competition that chose the theme for this week, will select THEIR top 20 entries to be placed in a poll to select that week's winner by you and your peers

8. ONLY competition entries will be accepted at this email address:

GT4rallycomp@yahoo.com

All others will be deleted.

.

If you folks think this is fair, easy to follow and leaves nothing to question (other than questions about the theme from week to week), then I will set up a competition and see where we go from there. So let me know OK?

I'll see what kind of feedback there is in a week and see if this is even worth persuing. So, post what you think of this and we'll take it from there.

Until next time boys and girls.

If your picture is found to be enhanced by ANY other means than what is available within GT4, your entry will be voided
That's going to make for some pretty ugly pictures. Just look at the drift photo competitions...lots of ugly pictures dark/washed out dreary pictures that would be really really good if a little contrast and brightness were added. But, I'd give it a go anyway. Also, for the record, I don't have photoshop, so I'm not able to control how much brightness/contrast my pictures have. I just have a rudimentary free program that does it automatically. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, if a level playing field is what you're after with this, I'm not sure it's necessary. That's my two cents.

No offence, but don't you think were going over the top with all these compititions, I mean we already have something like 4 going now, Its just going to be one big massive mess between polls and entry threads jumbled up. But hey don't let me stop you feel free at your heart's content.

Just my 2 cents

I see nothing wrong with this. It should be interesting to see how this format works out. 👍

So what you're saying is that for those wanting to try this out and submit their entry to you, they cannot enter the REAL week 10 competition? Perhaps you should have had a different theme from the current week as your test run...

No. This is not a try-out for a competition. I've posted this in order to get a feel for what people think of this totally anonymous way of entering a competition. You can see by the rules that I"ve drawn up that there is NO WAY that anyone other than the organizer and the one who picks the pictures for the Top 20 to know who's picture is who's (unless there has been some PMing between folks). And the rule about not seeing your picture in any other thread deals only with the picture that was entered into the rally competition. Just because you'd enter a rally based competition doesn't mean that you can't enter any of the other competitions, just don't use the same picture in more than 1 comp.

As far as the themes go, the only themes in this competition would be rally based. That's why the thread is called Rally Photomode Competition. I don't think that there are any other competitions on the board that deal with rally cars or rally venues. So I don't think that there is going to be a conflict between a rally competition and any of the other comps that are going on right now. There will just have to be an understanding between the competitions and participants that any rally themes would be exclusive to this Rally competition. I went with the idea of a Rally based competition because I didn't see any comps here on the board that dealt with rallying. As of right now there is no competition set up. As I said this is only to get a feel of what you the participants feel about the way this would work. Slick 6 had mentioned in a post in another thread to give the suggestions I made a try but before I did that I wanted folks to look over the rules and see if they feel they are simple enough or not, that's it. I'm fishing for feedback to see if this is even worth persuing. If not, then I'll not mention it again. But if there is enough interest in not only rally picture competition but in the whole anonymous way of doing the competition then I'll move forward with it.

So let me know what you think people. Good, bad, whatever.

great idea but not sure about limiting it to rally.

I'd have thought the attraction of this comp was the different format & rules etc, not because you've picked a theme that hasn't been done before. what if a winner of the regular comp wants to pick a rally theme for that? By all means use rally for the first week, but I know I'd lose interst after a few weeks if the same selection of tracks & cars keeps popping up.

hey Brock If I win.... I Garuntee I WON'T choose a Rally Theme... just tellin ya...

Swissbear in another thead
It will not conflict with the other comps because it's a totally different set of themes and I don't thinkk it will pull entrants away from the other comps either.
I don't think that would be a problem at all, I know I'd certainly enter both comps even if the theme was similar. And when I get my ps2 working again I will :)

Whoops, I didn't mean the Week10 PMC...

the Mag cover comp is Rally themed this week!

edit: btw... I actually think it would be MUCH better if you didn't even add into the email your GTP name. Since we are so inclined to keep people from knowing whose pic is whose so people don't play favorites, why not start at the source? Say Franz wins a competition and for his top 20, he picks people like me, 440, Slick, DRT2RM, Vicious VP, and so on... The weeks chooser can play favorites just as much (if not more) than voters can. So this is why I say we submit completely anonymous pics, that way NOBODY knows who belongs to which one until after all is said and done.

good idea dori-san, whoever puts the pics up should also label them numerically. I never remember which pic bleongs to who anyway unless it's it's a really good shot and they've got a memorable name or avatar :)

It would also be nice if the poll for this does not have the option to view results prior to voting, is that possible with this forum software? probably not, or if so it would affect all polls.

dady5000 I get a red stopwatch after races so I can't save replays, so I can only take pics at travel locations. I'm waiting to get all the bits for a hdd setup, hopefully in the next week or so.

Then how would we know for sure who win? What if more than one person claims to have submitted the pic? I think somebody has to know...is bias really that big of a problem? It's not like there's money at stake or anything. :sly:

Well I was thinking about that. After the win, they could email back the winner for a confirmation on the name. Or perhaps we should just make it a rule that the photo MUST be submitted from the same email that you have registered with this site. Then an admin can confirm that it's true or something...

And after a few weeks the person who picks the top 20 will start to reconise email addresses. Thats if one person wins a few times, and a few people are friends or have previously contacted someone before and know there email address. Either way we look at it there is always and I mean always loop holes, and favourtism will always be there.

Like one week in the Magazine cover comp, I recieved votes from the 2 most talented designers, but they were the only 2 votes I got. Now if my Mag cover was good enough to get votes from those 2 then surely a few more would vote for it right? WRONG... The Mag Comp is slowely getting less entry's and I think will slowly die off.

In my opinion, there's no way to work around the fact that the one choosing the Top 20 could and would pick his buddy's pictures. However, that doesn't mean that his buddy's picture is gonna get the votes needed to win. So, I think that by listing the GT4 ID in the entry email is the easiest way to deal with who's picture is who's. I didn't envision getting a whole lotta people involved in the whole anonymous bit all I had in mind was to make it not quite so obvious that the same people voted for their buddies all the time. The way I see it, there's really not an easy way around the fact that somewhere along the line someone is gonna know who submitted what but, at the same time, the voters won't know who's is who's.

And I think that the rule about what's in the email is pretty simple also. Entrants in the already established comps already have to copy/paste a link to their ImageShack thumbnail so that's a gimme. And attaching the picture straight from their computer should be fairly simple as most people have attached a picture to an email before. And then all the entrant has to do is type his GT4 ID somewhere in the email and hit send. Sounds pretty simple to me and it has just as many steps involved as in the comps now. I mean, they upload their picture to ImageShack, copy paste the link into a post....most of them add a "runner-up" picture so that's one more upload to ImageShack and another copy/paste. And then they type a few words about their entry and/or their "runner-up". So I don't really see a difference. And also, the "organizer" still has to copy/paste the links from all the different posts into a poll so, again, I don't see the difference when it has to be done from emails into a poll.

I wanted to elaborate a bit about the "your entry elsewhere on the board" part. I wrote it that way in order to eliminate the possibility of using the same picture in a thread to influence the voting. However, that doesn't mean that a person can't enter two or more comps a week...just don't use the same picture in more than one comp. If there's a Rally themed comp somewhere else on the board, use another picture. It can be from the same "photoshoot" using the same car, same track, etc. just not the same picture. Which includes using the same picture and enhancing it with a Photoshop type program.

well I for one would like to see a seperate Rally Comp. I could care less what the rules are as long as they are agreed upon, besides as we have seen in the other comps you often have to modify the rules as you move on. LETS GET IT ON :)

I disagree with the idea that not using photoshop will make for 'ugly' pictures. I have never manipulated any pics and they turn out fine. Usually I just save the pic more than once with different exposure/hue setting to see what they look like on my monitor compared to my tv. I like the idea of not editing the pics at all, anyone can make a bad pic look good through manipulation. I agree with everything Swissbear has laid out so far, sounds like a good plan.
