I like it, but the lack of a sedan may hurt sales in the US. I guess it reminds me of the old Audi Quattro and the new Civic Type R (UK-Spec)...

Another one? I have yet to even see the current one on the roads anywhere.

I like how they're evolving the front as I predicted they would, though.

Looks like a new Subaru (not offensive, not pretty either). I'm not surprised they want it a little shorter and nimbler. It'll work in rallying very nicely.

The main market for WRXs seems to be not really needing a rear doors anyway... just young guys wanting a fast car...

This is pretty cool, my family currently has 2 Impreza's, the early one and the 2nd gen (round headlights and the middle version), and we are looking for another, might have to wait for this one to come out :)

Doesn't look very official to me, looks like someone (any john doe) spliced a current WRX STi with the rear of a older Impreza wagon and tweaked a few things.

That could really be reality. As it has been said before, this shorter Impreza would have more success in the WRC. And for the customer it would offer a new Subaru competing with A3, Golf, Civic etc. I mean the Legacy is about as heavy and big as the Impreza, so it would make sense to increase the difference. I am not sure yet if I like that development though....

I dunno, I kinda quite like it from that angle, but I'm dubious as to what the back will look like. Subaru need to go back to the old style headlights.

I like it from the front but I bet the rears messed up with that spoiler. I would buy one if it wasnt for the chav image and the rubbish interior. Oh and chicks dont dig cars like these anymore.

...I would be willing to bet that it would be sold as a sedan or a coupe in different parts of the world, as certain places like certain cars better...

Me? I'm an Evolution guy, but between the two I'd rather buy a R32 (VW, not that Skyline crap).

Bring back the round bugeye headlights that graced the 02 WRX, but use the WRC style ones instead of the street spec.

Oh god no, they were still ugly, that was the worst shaped Impreza ever.

Oh shut up ;)

No honestly, that really is a matter of taste.

The Skyline would be cool, but the R32 from VW is a very average car....

its seriously not good
2 door? no way, gotta compete with the Evo
the back is so ugly and with such a huge wing.. Eewwww
is it a concept?

Oh shut up ;)
Now come on, with over 15k posts you know that's not goung to happen .

Absolutely, and my taste told me "Oh god no, they we're still ugly, that was the worst shaped Impreza ever" ;).

It's not the ugliest car ever or anything like that, not close, but imo it's the ugliest Impreza.

FFS Subaru leave it alone for a while..
The current one looks great, hwoever I still maintain the P1 & WR1 are the best looking

The R32 Skyline isn't that good compared to today's standards, the R32 GTi is awesome...it's a great blance of a luxury and speed. The new R36 is going to be sweet too.

Simply put, the R32 was the civilized option to the Evolution and STi (or that was the case in the US anyhow...) It is unfortunate that the new MKV R32 has not made it's way here (much less the now fully-German-assembeled Rabbit), and it is looking like the R36 may not happen either.

When I buy a car, I want it to do a lot of things, and I think the R32 is just right in most situations. Big engie with big power, decent fuel mileage, plenty of cargo space, plenty of space for folks (in coupe and sedan forms), AWD capability for bad weather, and an overall level of refinement typical of all German vehicles... Not something Mitsubishi or Subaru could match...

Ok you got yourself out of this one... But it's on the edge ;)

What are you talking about ? It's an VW. We are not talking about Mercedes, Audi or BMW here. They are second class cars here in Germany, nothing more. And they can not at all compete with the STi or Evo performancewise.

When I buy a car, I want it to do a lot of things, and I think the R32 is just right in most situations.
Ok, why not. Of course it offers an interesting mix, might be the right choice for certain people.
Big engie with big power
Big power? oh well... Sure it is more than enough, but let's face it : Both the Evo and the STi are a lot faster. 0-60 for example. But on the race track the difference will be even greater
decent fuel mileage
ok, that is true

plenty of cargo space, plenty of space for folks (in coupe and sedan forms)
Well again the Evo and the STi have more room
AWD capability for bad weather
Yes, but the Subaru and Mitsubishi AWD is superior
and an overall level of refinement typical of all German vehicles
Have you ever been in a VW ? It's ok, but nothing special. And the quality of VW is not great. They have so many problems with electronics and even mechanical issues. Many of my friends have VW's, for the last time in most cases.
... Not something Mitsubishi or Subaru could match...
Sorry, but that is wrong. Ok so we have more space, more power, better performance, better AWD and better quality - Subaru for example is way before VW in longterm quality statistics here in Germany.

You can say that BMW, Audi and Mecedes have higher interior quality...ok, but not VW. I still don't think that these details are worth the extra money for
these 3 premium car manufacturers, but that is a decision for every single customer.

You know yssman that is all a question of your tone. When you say, that you personally like the styling and the overall package of VW more, then that is fine for me. I have no problem with VW fans you know. But you are kind of misinformed and things like "Skyline crap" doesn't really help....

Confrming the fact about the VW R32. 3 are in my neighborhood, all 3 are more in the garage than on the road, and I dont mean that in the good way....the list of the problems is way to long to list here, all I'll say that my old Yugo is a better built car than that.

1. Yes I have a Yugo. Kill me.

2. I stand behind the statement that my goddamn Yugo is better built car than the VW 32.

3. If you don't agree,or dislike what you just read, you can:
a) Call me a ________ (insert profanity here)
b) Agree
c) Ignore button.Use it.

Yugo's are some of the crappiest cars ever made, the VW R32 is much better.

I don't know about VW reliability, but they sure are a pain to fix when they break down. They are designed with easy assembly and not easy repair in mind.

The engines in particular are very crammed. The electronics are also poorly done as well. VW uses only white wires and prints them with a number every coupe of inches. So rather than tracing colors, you have to trace numbers. Just one example.

Poverty
whats a yugo. How do you know that the owners of the R32 is having reliability issues?

1. I live in a country where the VW Golf is the most common car seen on the roads. Also overhere you can hear someone say"There is nothing better than VW Golf, except BMW or Benz." or "The VW is the best quality-built car ever"(Have been in the time of MK i and MK ii,I say)
2. Being a car mehanic, whose almost all experience is on German cars(hey,I said already, ovehere 70% of cars are german made,50% of that are VW Golf, all MK's),and who worked some time for BMW,Now works for *drums roll*

Volkswagen.
I don't know enough english to spell engineiring, though.Probably I will never do.Although I learned english since 1st grade elementary.

Ok,the Yugo statement was a bit overboard, but still....I'd rather pick something Japanese,or even American,in that category over VW-AUDI.

Why do I drive the Yugo crapfest:
1. Overhere, the parts are practically anywhere.
2. Probably the best car to practice assembling and dissasembling the engine.Or the whole car,if you're up to it,and not feeling bad if you screw up....who would actually?
3. If someone steal's it.....gues what I dont give a flying ***k.
4. There is lotta more, but this is an impreza thread, not Yugo nor VW R32 thread.

5. And pray that my boss never sees this what I wrote-I'd get fired faster than a torpedo from a USS Enterprise's torpedo bay. LOL.

6. HAVE A NICE DAY AND ENJOY your VW. Until The VW Mk Vi,when I hope that the future R40 or something won't have an engine that goes boom-shalock-lock boom in just 15 thousand Km-9000 something miles for you Imperials.

And now,go and flame me like you like to do.

Peace.
