Hi there. My name's Adam and I'm new to WRS. Over the past few months I've followed the WRS Events and watched the times that are being produced. GTP seems to be a great community to share my times with and as there's still months left to wait until GT5, the WRS should make GT5P interesting again.

About the qualifying lap, I had a good hour a few days a go and felt I had a lot room for improvement. I went back today and shaved 3 tenths off of my lap. There's still a few tenths left in me but I am happy with the lap I have submitted. :P I play with a sixaxis pad but I think my lap time is alright ;)

Welcome Adam, hope you have as much fun as I have here, and as the Duke says, you'll soon be after a wheel when you realise the limitations of the pad, roll on Christmas......

Andy

Thanks for the warm welcomes! :)

I'm comfortable with a pad for the time being playing GT5P. I might get myself a wheel for when GT5 is released 👍

Hi, I'm new to WRS and online racing, but no stranger to GT series...so am looking forward to giving this a go.

But I gotta ask...to get a division 1 time, is left-foot braking a necessity? I just can not seem to shave off anymore time from my lap, no matter what racing line I take...

Have you watched any of the top 10 laps? See a few and watch from inside view, there you can see the throttle & brake using (put the HUD on) and also the steering movements. It helps me too if somebody makes a corner very fast, just take a peek and monkey see, monkey do. :) 👍 Consentrate also to learning the right braking points, key point to me at least.

To answer the question, there are many really fast gyus that doesnt use LFB, so I guess the answer is no. It might help you in some situations though.

Hehe thanks Timppaq, funny you should reply...actually it was your time on Fuji in the RX-7 that had me scratching me head, wondering where the hell I can find another 5 seconds.

There's plenty of great laps in the leaderboard.. 👍 , too bad only first ten can be seen. Just give it more laps, and truly concentrate on what you are doing, and how you are doing it. The seconds will drop...

To the new members here, Welcome.

Timppaq has given some great points on getting a fast lap.
I would like to add that you have to drive within your own limits.
What I mean is the following.
I have been doing the WRS for a couple years now and I can tell that I will never be Division 1 worthy.
I have found my limit (basically) and I am content where I am, in Division 3.
I'm not saying that I'll never improve but for Spec III I have found my limit.

What I'm trying to say is drive to your limit, not someone else's.
Put the amount of time into your qualifier as you would be able to for each WRS event.
This will ensure you that you are in the correct Division.
You don't want to be in the wrong division and either start winning in a division that is too easy or get your arse kicked week after week. That's no fun for anyone.
We have a week to produce our times and I spend between 3 to 6 hours a week running laps.
I use to put more hours in (too many, like up to 40) when I began in the WRS but I find my limit quicker now than in the past.
Those in D1 will drive less as they are better drivers and find they're limit quicker than the lower divisions.

Again, Welcome to our new members.

Again welcome to all the new competitors! 👍:)

I'm mainly writing to point out just how spot on 01GTP is with what he says, especially with the part quoted above!
I made a mistake with my Qualifier back then, or put a bit differently I was lead into this mistake by various circumstances. 1st of all I was new to Playstations, GT and all that so all was fresh and exiting and I basically "lived" in my damn playseat in any case. 2nd the Qualifier Thread: there it says (or said back then at least) to put in your maximum effort. That's what I did: 4 or 5 loooooooooooooooong nights, in sum probably 20h. The result: Div 1 silver. Yuhuuuu. And now I'm getting my butt handed to me on regular basis by the aliens that surround me in my devision. Like 01GTP pointed out: the really good guys find fast pace fast. I can be fast, but it seems to take more time and dedication.
That said I can only second his advice: invest as much time on the qualifier as you are willing to do later on a regular basis in a given car/track combo.
Good luck and lot's of fun!

When I did my qualifying lap about a week a go, I too read on the registration thread to put in your maximum effort. However, I only probably gave the qualifier 5 hours, which is the equivalent amount of the hours I am guessing I will be able to put in on a weekly basis. I received a message from Jack yesterday telling me I was qualified into Div 1 bronze. Remember I play with a sixaxis controller and won't be able to keep up with anyone in div 1 - without a shadow of a doubt.

When I have followed people's times each week I seem to be in and around division 3. In no way am I div 1 worthy. Is it just me or are the qualifying boundaries set too low? :ill:

Hi mate,

First of all, congratulations on making Division 1  I think you qualified D1 bronze actually, and if you've managed that with a pad after 5 hours I think you're certainly worthy of your prestigious position. Many of the recent combos have been extremely pad-unfriendly. I should know as I have been a long-time pad user up until April. Please don't feel discouraged from taking part, Erik (Arora) once said to me it takes a few WRS for you to realise how much time is required to be succesful and improve to the point of being competitive.

It's true that hotlapping comes naturally to some, but for others it is an acquired skill. I've had to work my ass off, hours, weeks, months to get to the point where I can get podiums in D1. I never even won a single D2 WRS, most of my promotions were race event-based until very very recently. I also managed what would have been a D1 silver qualifying time on pad towards the very end of my SIxaxis use, but at the time I was still in D2 silver, so I agree the quali may not be entirely representative of your relative ability everywhere with every car.

Stick with it though, please take part and don't be put off by your divisional placing, and seriously consider upgrading to a wheel. It makes absolutely all the difference in the world.

Having said that, your time on the Citroen C4 leaderboard at Suzuka is very impressive 👍

All the best
Maz

You're not the only new D1 guy on controller ... :sly:
My D1 silver is on about an hour of effort, including watching two replays. That's about double the time I put into any other TT.

Also, hi all. :)

We have some racers that come in, and have to really work to turn in a time that's representative of their division placement. But we also have some that come in and have to be promoted right away. The qualifier is directionally accurate, but not a perfect science.

I think it ties back to just how dynamic the events can be. The qualifier itself it probably a moderately difficult combo. On weeks that are more difficult, you'll struggle more. On weeks that are not as difficult, you'll have better times.

After all is said and done, D1 times CAN be achieved with a pad. GTP_rpm, GTPJackStanley and GTP_timeattack are just a few who have been able to do it with consistency.

Please just participate. Running these various combos that you would not normally run will help you improve your skills. As a Division 3 qualifier on GT4 (Closer to our D4 now), I can attest to that. :)

I found the qualifier combo to be pretty agreeable, not so much this weeks' WRS Amuse @ DRC deal.

That would be because I'm an evil bastard. :mischievous:

I promise something with more grip for next week (Will be posted up on Sunday).

Nice one! I drove a time 0.25 slower than my div 1 bronze time on my 3rd lap of trying out the qualifier, but saw room for improvement so it now seems like a waste of 5 hours

I'll stick with it alright. I seem to be on a very steep learning curve at the minute. I've owned every GT and only switched to manual in GT4 about 2 years after its release. In fact when I first got GT5P I used standard physics, asm on etc. To now use pro physics I can actually see myself getting quicker month by month.

I'll see you all in the upcoming WRS events, assuming Jack has checked my replay to be clean 👍

I'm assuming that judging by this that our replays have been checked (by someone with a clue) already.

Also, monthly improvement is good. 👍

I probably put a couple of hours into the qualifier which is less than the time I normally spend on a WRS event. I have tried the qualifier a few times since, only maybe 20 laps or so total, and I am now almost a second quicker than the time I qualified with. Even so there is no doubt whatsoever that I was placed, and still languish, in the correct division. Everytime I race against someone from the same division and class as myself we have the same pace.

Hey all, what's going on?

Missed the majority of GT4 (haven't played in 4 years). I am about to get a copy of GT5 Prologue, GT4, and a new wheel. God I cannot believe how long it has been since I played GT. Hope to have some more fun racing you guys.

It will be a whole lot different this time.

Good onya Gt Thunder, I can't believe youv'e left it 4 years. Anyway welcome to the WRS 👍

I just put my name on a copy of GT5 Prologue and a Driving Force Pro at Gamers (I am going to pick them up tomorrow). Now I have to find something to mount that wheel on.
