New to the GTP_WRS? Introduce yourself

I noticed yesterday that the qualifier was reopened, so I spent some time pushing myself to the limit (and the gravel trap) and managed to string together a couple of nice (by my standards) laps which are now submitted. It will be interesting to see how I rank against the rest of you guys, but whichever division I end up in I know that I performed to the best of my ability, without spending too much time and frustration on it.

Now waiting for the results and hoping I get to compete against you people soon!

Hi again everyone. I'm Rudy. I joined WRS right at the end of GT5 so I'm still pretty new. I lurked for a long time, but really wanted to mix it up with some good, clean drivers already. :gtpflag:

And I feel like I improved just in the short time I've been here!

Welcome to everyone! I think you're going to like it. 👍

Feel greeting free to add me. See you online.

I made it! D3 Silver.
I don't know if anyone who submitted a clean time made the cut, but I'm geeked about it. Feels just like it felt when I'd get the news I'd passed a class in college. Awesome. Thanks for having me. I'll do my best to honor it.

Hi I’m Niels. A 49 year old relaxed hotlapper from Denmark. :D

I joined the WRS in 2003 and was active the last years of GT3 and through most of GT4. During GT5 real life became busy and I only drove a few WRS combos. Instead I got my weekly hotlapping fix with the seasonals time trials.

This time I qualified in the middle of div 3, which reflects my pace pretty accurately. I’m trying to keep my driving short and sweet and, usually gives a combo two sessions of around 30 minutes. Hope it’s enough to keep up with at least some of my fellow div 3 racers. :scared:

Looking forward to see you all on track. :)

You are not new! :grumpy: ;)

Great to see you here, Niels. 👍

Figured it was time to pop in and say hi....some of you will know me from other areas of the forum where, despite my relative noviceness (compared to most) I try to be helpful and give advice to fellow strugglers..particularly DS3 users.

Anyway, I'm nursemorph, aka David, I'm, well, older than a lot of you but younger than a fair few too :P. Have played GT4 in the distant past, played GT5 for a year before GT6 release (only got my PS3 then), so am still a relative novice. Saw a post by Cargo about the WRS and decided to give it a go....ended up with Div 4 Silver which is about right, although, in hindsight, realised I didn't put enough time into the qualifiers (the S1,S2 leaderboard for the latest TT may point towards this). I use a DS3 as a back injury stops me from sitting long enough to use a wheel...though would dearly love to use one.

Well, that's me. Looking forward to getting to know all of you and enjoying the TTs...I am yet to do online racing as my concentration isn't too good and I don't want to be wrecking people's races due to that but am quite happy with the TTs (for now anyway)

Since my wheel started to sound like it's had enough Apricot Hill laps for today, and my lower back kinda agreed, I guess it's a good time to properly (or improperly) introduce myself, since I'm now part of the WRS community.

So, I'm a 26-year old guy from cold, eastern Finland. I got into Gran Turismo series when the first one came for PS1, and it used to be my favourite game back then. Naturally as time passed by, I moved on to GT2, GT3 and eventually GT4. For a long time I played with a controller, but something in me wanted more from this game, and late into GT4's existence I finally got my first wheel, the DFGT.

Not long after getting the wheel, GT5P was released and I really wanted that game, but I didn't have a PS3 yet and it wasn't easy for an unemployed young bloke to save money for one. Eventually I got a job, and was able to buy one, but I had developed other interests and sort of forgot GT and pretty much every other game, and my brand new PS3 was just collecting dust with the barely touched DFGT.

A couple years later from that (not a long ago) a couple friends of mine were talking about a new GT game (GT6) and that conversation brought me some good memories and I decided to get the game, and once again I was addicted! Immediately found a new favourite form of racing from the seasonal time trials and it didn't take long for me to get used to the wheel. And then I remembered these forums and decided to take a peek and found the WRS TT's and wanted in. And here we are.

Now that I'm having so much fun with my very first WRS TT, I'm kinda sad that I totally skipped GT5P and GT5, as I probably would've had a blast in those too. But yeah, I guess that's pretty much it about the relationship between me and GT series.

Nice to meet, and nice to be racing with you all!

En Garde :-) looks like you did the same as I with the qualifier. Good to meet you buddy/nemesis depending on how you see it ;).

There are a few grandpa's in the WRS that I know from days of GT 3 that are quite the cookers on the track. Age doesn't define the racer David :-)

Howdy everyone,

As much before me, I have finally decided to introduce myself.

I am Thomas, and I live in the now frozen over Washington D.C. metro here in the U.S. of A (go ahead and make a pun about how hell has froze over), but i was born and raised in Oklahoma. Pardon the fact that we don't learn how to read or write.

While I have been playing Gran Turismo since GT3, I have not exactly taken it seriously beyond me and a buddy's friendly rivalry both at Autocross and in game. But, alas, its time for me to get into my competitive nature while also humbling myself down and realizing I still have much to learn. Now that I have run into some new-found free time (goodbye FSAE) and also ran into some money (hello career), I have bought myself a G27 (adequately attached to a wobbly dinner tray from walmart) and am ready for some racing.

I am still awaiting my results from the qualifier since I missed batch 1 by one day (I would like to blame Google for not guiding to this site with the search string of "Gran Turismo leagues" faster) but I look forward to hopefully see some of you guys in WRS, as well as in some online league racing.

Cheer!

Looking at the TT split leaderboard...you are definitely a nemesis as you are above me on the board :P

I would like to point out that I'm not a grandpa just yet...well, except when people on a MMORPG I used to play decided to call me that as I was older than the rest of them! I am "only" in my late 30s....definitely not getting on in years but ancient compared to most gamers lol. Very true...age does indeed not define the racer....lack of skill does:lol:

I'm not entirely new to GTP_WRS, but I've been inactive on this until now. But since I'm a college student and that college has started, I hardly have any time to get on GT6 because of this. :banghead:

I won't bore the heck out of you with personal info about myself but here's an interesting fact. I was the guy who gave up his spot to help Patrick Crider win the first GT Academy Racer X event during Comic Con at San Diego.

Mid 30's over here :-) at least we can both say we were born in the 70's. your not too far behind on the scoreboard. It is amazing the amount that are though.

Speaking of Grandpa, I use to game with a bunch of guys in Socom Confrontation. We were all in our late twenties to late thirties. Compared to the general gaming population we might be on the "older side" but there are plenty older and younger then us. Remember we did grow up in the Nintendo and Atari Boom. :-) every now an then just gotta whip those young snappers ;)

Hello all, I'm going to try and get the qualifiers under my wing this weekend, then see if I have enough time to get an Audi Quattro around the track. Just to note to the mods, excellent community you guys developed here.

Sounds good and welcome!

Just to set your expectations though, you won't be processed in time to make an official submission in the Quattro for the TT which ends on Monday. Once you submit feel free to post splits to that thread and run laps, but the splits won't make the leaderboard and your lap won't be included in the official results. You might make the following time trial if you submit over the weekend, but that's not 100% certain yet as the next batch could be processed next week or the week after depending on available admin resources. I know we hope to do it early next week, but real life will dictate if that's possible.

However, if you finish and submit your qualifier by early next week you can join us (using a provisional division placement) for the online practice/racing on Tuesday/Wednesday with the Quattro (and practice on Tuesday).

The average age of gamers is older than you all appear to think, remember that gaming really took off in the late 80's/early 90's. ;)

Yeah, I guess you have a point there....I would say that while gamer ages may be higher than I was guessing, the ages of "serious" gamers is probably much lower (taking into account time spent gaming). Those gamers who were around to play games when it first took off now, generally, have commitments and families which limits their playing time. To be fair, my guesswork was based on an MMORPG that I played the early part of last year where the majority (95%+) that I got to know on there were under 30, of those probably 70-80+ were 24 or under.....I really felt old on that game :grumpy:

@nursemorph , Ahem.....serious old guy in the house :P . A recent poll of player age shows some interesting facts that confirm @mistersafeway 's statement although I suspect the type of game would skew results dramatically but in this genre at least, the OLDer guys seem to rock just as much as the young guns.

The good news is that whatever your age, you'll be in good company and that's nice to know 👍

See poll > here <

I actually got my information from a gaming website, so it was in general terms, unfortunately can't remember the specifics. I think it said that the average gamer was somewhere in the 20-40 age range, it's just that children tend to play more, due to not having children. ;) I'm 23 with a lot of free time, which I fill by watching lame anime parodies on YouTube and playing Pokémon... okay, not just that, just pointing out how much of a nerd I am.

Also, thanks for actually finding some physical evidence about age spread in gaming, Mike. Saves me having to do it. 👍

Just noticed this thread, and seeing as I'm new to the WRS...

I'm Guillaume, 31 y.o. from Rivière-du-Loup, QC, and this is my first time in the WRS, even though I'm a long time lurker (and sometimes poster) on the GTP boards. I'm no race driver in real life, but I tend to hold my own a little bit nicely in pretty much all gaming stuff.

I qualified in D3 Bronze, which is pretty much right where I thought I might end up when I was looking at the kind of times I would be up against from the community, so I'll be trying to improve on my driving from there on !

Yes! I'm official! Hello there!

I'm tuffers, named after the cricketer, because I bowl spin, can't bat and smoke a lot. I can also dance a bit too.

But that's just being silly. Why would the good people of the WRS care?

Anyway, I'm a 27y/o web editor from the UK now in Abu Dhabi, so home circuits are Mallory Park and Yas Marina Circuit. Which one do you want to see in gt6? Ha!

Currently using a ds3 but looking to move up to a wheel and rig. I'm slow, been placed in div 4 silver but here for the enjoyment.

I'm married and also have two cats.

Hey all!

I've been with GT since the PS1 days. I'm in my mid twenties from the US and love every part of racing, but F1 has my heart.
I've recently been more and more interested in the seasonal events which has led me to joining the WRS. I havent got my qualifier division yet but look forward to pushing the TT leaderboard (though I wont be pushing the D1 times by any means).
