newbie cant steer!

We have a new PS2 and are basically new to Gran Turismo. We have GT4, struggled with steering with the standard controller and bought an mgear racing wheel. It is not just a matter of not cornering, we cant even drive a straight line at 30km/h! Is there some way of adjusting the steering sensitivity? We have tried to adjust various things such as tyres, different cars, power steering on and off, feedback mild and strong, all to no avail.....help, this is SO frustrating!!!!!!

My only guess is that your trying to drive a front wheel drive and turn very sharp. This is one of those questions that everyone knows your doing something wrong, and it would take less then a minute to sort you out in person, but online it may take awhile.

Give us all of the details: Is the driver young? (It's a lot harder for a 5 year old to drive)
What car?
What track?
Knowledge of racing?

You could try to drive a low powered car on a simple track, (Civic and Beginner Course) and then film the replay and upload it to youtube, just post the youtube link here afterwards.

Hours and hours of enjoyable practice is the only solution. A tried and true method. Jump into a race series here too. You'll suck at first but you will get better. Doing what Bopop4 suggests above is a great idea. Start with the slower cars first.
