Made another closeup today and decided to give it a 'cooler' look. :)

[31: Another closeup from Alyssa]

Nice photos! The snapshot of your daughter did turn out nice. And I don't know what it is about the second shot, but it makes me scared a little. Maybe it's the vividness of the eyes and softness of everything else. A good photo, though. 👍

Thanks! Maybe I overdid the eyes a little bit. ;) Looks a bit like a scene from 'The Omen' now. :P

Shot was taken at f/2.0, focused at the eyes at a relatively close distance, so indeed the eyes are sharp and the rest is soft because of the shallow DOF.

BTW, the 30mm can do sharp shots as well, below was shot at f/8.0 (as always clickable for large version):

[32: Louise and Alyssa]

If my 50mm is half as sharp as your 30 I'll be a happy boy. Great shots, although I do agree that the eyes kinda freak me out!

Sorry dude, I didn’t realize you posted on my flickr until just now, I really should log in more often

Great shots. Your daughter is beautiful and I’m sure you are a very proud dad, she has such vivid eyes. Really amazing. The shots are all great. The first one definitely shows that she can be cheeky. The mum & daughter shot is great too, gives it a bit of a candid but very well executed feel.

Also love the baboon shot from your previous post. Top stuff. 👍

Thanks, and I'll go a bit easier on the eyes next time if it makes people scared. :P And the 50mm f/1.8 should be very sharp, especially when stopped down a bit.

Thanks! Somehow I really like to shoot portraits and people, they always seem to turn out better than my other stuff. I shot the baboon with my 70-200 F4/L, that lens always surprises me with its sharpness and the amount of detail there is in the shots. 👍

The weather was not too crappy today, so I decided to take a few pictures of my car. Here's what came out (as always clickable for large version):

[33: Opel Corsa OPC, low shot]

[34: Opel Corsa OPC, desaturated background]

I like the desaturated shot! 👍

Also, isn't that the same place you took pictures of your 350Z?

Yes, it is. :) It's a spot near the 'Lek' river. It's usually quiet, which is why I like shooting there.

Got that other shot in desaturated form as well. :)

It's been ages since I last posted here (or viewed this forum for that matter) and I haven't really photographed in ages, but I managed to squeeze off one or two in the past few weeks.

Usually I take the effort of reviewing/commenting on a few shots from you guys here before posting one of my own, but it will take me some time to catch up. ;)

Anyway, here's the two I manged to squeeze off in the past few weeks. Still not sure what style to pick when shooting portraits, and the first one is cropped a bit too tight. Both clickable for larger version of course. :) Feedback is, as always, appreciated.

I've been in a bit of a lull, too. :ouch: We'll both snap out of it... eventually. And I've also been struggling with how to edit my shots in post but typically ere on the as-seen-in-real-life option.

The look on your son's face is awesome but I think the highlights could be toned down just a touch. I like the PP of the shot of your daughter - it gives it kind of a dreamy look that, with 2 boys, I don't think I could get away with. 👍

I agree with TB, the highlights are a little overshot on the first one. But it's still a nice shot.

I really like the one of your daughter though, the tones and light is very nice. 👍

I like the highlights on the first, his face really pops against the black background (which with a small time in photoshop could be completely black).

Personal taste interferes with the second as I don't really like blue tones on a portrait but I'm sure others do.

Nice shots dude. Your son's facial expression is priceless and the eye colour really stands out. Great job 👍

Had a short vacation, so time to shoot a few pics. As always, clickable for large version, and feedback is always appreciated. :)

[38: Pool Cue]

[39: Louise and Alyssa, coloring]

Some really nice shots you have on your gallery, mate. 👍

These last two, the pool cue shot is overall good, with the B&W processing and the grain. Only thing is the composition itself, my personal opinion is that I'd have more of the cue showing and less of the table, making the focused part of the cue land on the lower left of the image.

The family fun photo is a very nice image, very natural, excellent DOF and with an excellent composition. Don't know if the overall yellowish tones are due to white balance or if the light in the room had that tone already, but anyway, it's really working for me; it's like one of those images we sometimes see advertising something, with a happy family where everything's perfect. Me likey! :)

Here you go :)

[40: Pool que, different crop]

In the family shot, the lighting was indeed yellowish, with a bit of daylight coming in from the right. Instead of doing something freakish to it, I kept it as-is. :) Both shot with the 30mm f/1.4, I just love that lens. 👍

I'm digging the pool cue shot. Very simple but quite striking and the newer crop of it you made I think looks better. 👍

Colours and lighting is nice on family, both pool cue shots are nice IMO, different style between the two.
