Thomas just announced the new F1 rim for the CSR Elite wheel on his blog the other day. In the same announcement he said there will be no other rims made for the CSR Elite.

Here is the quote: "It is the only additional wheel rim planned for the CSR Elite at this point. We will now fully concentrate to make additional wheel rims for the ClubSport wheel."

What this means is if you want a nice GT Style rim for your CSR Elite wheel, too bad, we are screwed and stuck with the cheap ass flimsy rim that came with the wheel. This is very dissappointing news. I have been waiting ever since I got my wheel to replace the rim with one that is of the same quality as the base. I was really excited when Thomas showed the way the rims can be removed and replaced with different ones. And now he says the F1 is the only one. Not a good move.

If you own a CSR Elite or are planning to buy one and would like to see a better GT Style rim for it, please go to the link above and let Thomas know. Maybe if enough of us ask for it, he will change his mind.

Didnt they showcase the wheel a while back with a GT wheel? with some cheesy thing where a guy is driving a BMW racing car, then he jumps out and plugs his near identical Fanatec wheel into a CSR unit and continues driving with the sim?

If they already had the wheel designed and advertised it as such, seems silly that now it only has an F1 rim. I could be majorly missing something out though, haven't been exactly following it closely.

That was for the CSW (Clubsport Wheel). There has never been an alternate GT rim officially announced for the CSR Elite, but Thomas has said there would be additional rims and now says he will only make the F1 rim.

If they where to offer a gt rim rim it would cost $250. That is so it wouldnt effect csw sales. Thats why the f1 wheel is gonna be $180. If they sold the rims any cheaper the csw sales would tank.

Let me point out something in his text:
Here is the quote: "It is the only additional wheel rim planned for the CSR Elite at this point. We will now fully concentrate to make additional wheel rims for the ClubSport wheel."

So you still might get it, but just some time later, maybe next year or so.

No, Thomas said in his Blog:
We actually would have to charge more for this rim as we need to amortize development cost of a smaller amount of units. We expect that we will sell much for formula rims for the CSW.

This is very disappointing news.

This +1

I haven't looked lately but I do believe their was a poll here on which wheel rim would the CSR Elite owners like to have and if I recall correctly I think the GT style wheel received the most votes. It's odd that he would ignore popular demand.

Edit: Just checked the rim poll thread and the GT rim is by far the most in demand.

It would take alot sales away from the csw. There not going to put out a product to compete with there flagship wheel.

I had posted a bit about this at F-Wheel.com. I get the feeling F1 wheel rim sales may dictate whether we ever see other rim options for the CSR Elite. If it does poorly, I doubt we'll see anything more.

Personally, I'd like to see Fanatec consider the Kickstarter route for new wheel rims. That would be an interesting way to gauge interest and get a commitment from customers. On the other hand, Fanatec would need to do a better job of meeting deadlines.

I think Fanatec do not like to admit that CSR elite wheel is poor quality compared to base.

Well I do not have problem because I do not have CSR elite wheel.

Wow, that sucks. Maybe you can get a hold of one of them "Fungi rims" that seem to be all the rage at the moment.

I seriously dont know why ppl are having a problem with the csre rim, mine feels sturdy and has a nice solid cold feeling in my hands. Ive seen the flex videos but u got to be nuts to be doing that when driving normally

I kinda always had the feeling that the Elite would fall by the wayside eventually when the CSW came out. Didnt expect it to be this soon. I sold mine because for all that money spent, I couldnt stad hearing Thomas talk about how the CSW was going to be the "flagship"blah blah. The price of the CSW is not that much more, why give people a reason to feel buyers remorse after purchasing an Elite?

Those still playing Forza have absolutely no use for CSW so the CSR-E is still a sellable product. I'm willing to bet once there's a cheaper/lighter version of the GT rim for the CSW, it will make its way onto the CSR-E.

And the OP also failed to fully quote Thomas. What he (Thomas) actually wrote in the posting was:

"It is the only additional wheel rim planned for the CSR Elite at this point."

My poll is here, I also mentioned it on Thomas's blog.

A qoute from Thomas on poll thread, he might have been thinking of more than just the formula rim back then when he said this.
A Rally style rim will definitely not happen so perhaps it would make sense to delete that choice in order to get more realistic results.

Looks like this was just false hope - 6.30 mins in

I sold my standard CSR and bought the Elite thinking that I would get a solid GT Style rim, I guess the Formula rim will have to do.

:grumpy:

I'm so glad I didn't opt for the CSR-E. I would've been furious to hear they were only going to release the F1 wheel and not release a GT-Style wheel. Lame.

By now I've given up the hope for a GT rim on the Elite.
The cracking in my Elite wheel rim is so annoying, that it doesn't feel like 500 euro worth.
Very disappointing, because the rest of the wheel is just amazing.
Next month I will start a mod on my own with a Sparco wheel ;)

I hope the modding community starts producing some decent rims for the CSR Elite. Thomas is really missing out on a lot of sales here. I'm sure he will sell some F1 rims, but I'm still betting that a decent GT rim would sell more.

I'm not disagreeing with you Troy. And, in North America, it WOULD. But, as per this http://f-wheel.com/newly-added-csw-wheel-rims it definitely seems that Europe and Asia would highly prefer the F1 rim as compared to GT. Being a European company, he will cater to that market first. Hence my desire to get more marketing and tools necessary to have a North American HQ so to say, other than a warehouse....... There is a BIG market over here, but more for GT(ALMS & Grand-Am) & Nascar. While F1/Indy pulls OK numbers at best, it is not as desired, plain and simple.

So, give it time, it is obvious you are not the only one harping on this. It WILL happen, it is just a matter of when......

I sold my Elite wheel, It was a quality wheel except for that terrible rim. Fanatec is offering an F1 rim, wow how nice of them. :D I guess the people spoke and Fanatec delivered, well except to the GT crowd.

Their new wheel looks to be having some minor issues on the BMW rim, at least there are reports on the iRacing forum. I will sit back and wait a few months and see what falls out of the tree. If the BMW proves to be a great addition I may grab one, until then my trusty T500 will have to do. :)

How do you manage with t500rs pedals? Have you done mods to them or are they ok without?

For my T500RS, I use it with the T500 pedals and THR8S shifter for GT5 only. I have installed the mod that comes with the wheel and it works well. For PC racing, I use the T500RS with the Clubsport pedals and THR8S shifter, which gives me the best of both the Thrustmaster and Fanatec worlds.

I use inverted CSP with the heavy clutch and throttle spring. The CSP's are superior to the T500 pedals. I only race with iRacing these days. John Bodin has been working on a load cell add on for the T500. He has been R & D on them for several months, perhaps a year now and I believe it will be an amazing boost for T500 pedal owners.

Ok, that is nice to hear. I would buy a t500rs in heartbeat if the wheel worked with g25 pedals. I have g25 pedals bolted to my rig and I am likely to buy a wheel that supports them. I am now basically waiting for more light weight round rim for CSW or higher quality round rim to CSR-E. I am in no hurry to buy anything as my turbo S still works. Although turbo S is not quite fast for ideal wheel and FFB is not as sharp, the leather rim itself is clearly the best I have used.
