do these countries have to compete against each other in the first round (top 20 part)? cause when i look at the leaderboards its combined

So it seems. Somewhere here on the board someone stated that we are bunched together.
No wonder really, small population in all three countries.

In this case, I'm kind of suprised Australia and New Zealand arn't bunched together too.

Dont be daft, unlike the Nordic countries Australia and New Zeland would just start fighting if they had to race together :)

I don't really know why that is...

I can understand why England, Wales, Scotland and N.Ireland are bunched together, because technically we're the same country (United Kingdom).

But all the Scandanavian countries are seperate states. Norway isn't even in the EU and its bunched together with the others. Doesn't really make sense to me... There are other countries with small populations that arn't bunched together.

But it would be so funny, just like in "Flight of the Conchords" :D

It make sense.. Norway has very few fast drivers looking on the ranking list. So this means that if I get to final it will be a scandinavian final?

well u see Sweden, Norway, Denmark & Finland are all part of "Scandinavia"
so i guess thats the answer to this question

I really is a bit strange. Why aren't Belgium and Netherlands put together? UK and Ireland? Switzerland and Austria?

Belgium and Netherland = Benelux

Switzerland and Austria have the same kind of relations to eachother too dunno what its called tho, its like our northern countries forms scandinavia

And what exactly is wrong with the finns? Over 50% of the leaderboard top 250 is from Finland, and they have 20% of the combined population of the Nordic countries. Don't they have anything better to do, like ski or throw javelins or something? :dopey:

As far as I've been told, Finland isn't really a part of scandinavia...

it is actually.

I know my times aint great, but seeing 80-90% finns in the top 100 list is a bit depressive when you are from norway.
When they first listed the countries that was allowed to take part in the time-trial and have a chance to go to UK for the "next rounds" towards Indi500, norway, sweden, finnland and dennmark where not listed together in any way.

But I guess PD/Sony thinks we aint big enough to have our own competition 👎

I thought the exact same when I saw the leaderboards for the very first time :lol:
All I can say is that we have racing in our blood :mischievous:

MadMax

Belgium and Netherland = Benelux

I would hope someone noticed:
Be = Belgium
Ne = Netherlands
Lux = Luxembourg (and from then on no issue with the rules anymore for anyone that might have a twisted link with this place like me)
====================================================

It seems more geographical, but could mean a solution for the next years to put less competitive countries in a group. Luxembourg, Monaco, Andorra, Lichtenstein and Vatican city, might need some other countries in their group to make a reasonable top 20.

In another thread I already mentioned that there was an exceptional amount of Nordic countries in the slow times of round 2 in the previous GT Academy, but do we really want the Japanese to redraw the map of Europe?

I'm guessing there are other factors involved here other than just geography.

There seems to be no logical reason to lump all the Scandanavian countries together, yet Belgium is on it's own and not combined with the Netherlands, and Australia and New Zealand are separate.

[conjecture]
Perhaps Nissan (Belgium) contributed more funds to the running costs of the contest and so got a place of their own while the Scandanavian branches of Nissan didn't contribute as much and so are lumped together.
[/conjecture]

I blame Nordisk film! (im sure there is something theyre guilty of, at the very least the higher prices on ps3 hardware :D)

Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark have a total population of about 24,825,000. The Benelux region for example has a total population of about 27,726,000.

So why do they combine those Nordic countries and not the Benelux? Perhaps like Vince_Fiero has said, that the previous GT Acadamy times have something to do with it?

I'm sure they has their reason(s).

From what i've seen in this thread so far, maybe it would have been sensible, based on the laptimes, for Finland to be seperate, and for the rest of Scandanavia to be still together :P

Although i'm sure there would be far too many people unhappy with that :lol:
