Heh heh, nothing like a catchy title.
Anyways.. Tonight me and mom and her friend went off to some races at the Irwindale Speedway out here in california. They had some good stock car racing, super modified racing, figure 8's, wheelie cars, a jet tank (well, sorta) and destruction derby!
It was great.. There wasnt too much spectacular stuff going on during the stock car racing, but there was one hell of a crash in the super modified! I think there was around 7 cars involved or so... Then came the figure 8's, which werent exactly as exciting as you'd think they would be. Only about 1 car got taken out in the cross area, lots of close calls, though. The best part about the figure 8's was when suddenly this dudes rear tire came flying off with half of the axle attached and continued driving for about 6 more laps! -- After that came the wheelie cars, in which they had their engines mounted in the very rear of the car so most of the weight was in the back so they could pop wheelies. There was a '65 mustang and a '54 ford truck. They did theyre show, which wasnt as good as it should have been, but hey, it was still enjoyable! Then came the jet tank.. It wasnt really a tank, it was dressed up like one though. It had a huge jet engine attached and boy was it freaking loud! It went from about 0-100 in 1 second (thats what it seemed like, atleast.. i didnt time it or anything) on the straightaway of the track, luckily it could handle the turns.
Then came the best part of all of the events.. Destruction Derby! I personally favored this because teres lots of bashing smashing and crashing going on. There was a total of 30 cars in a small area and they started out in reverse. Alot of cars were taken out rather quickly, and within about 5 minutes there was only 20 cars left.. I was rooting for the XX car which almost won it, but didnt.. It was one of the last 3 running, and boy did it have a grudge against the orange #50 car! XX spent most of its time beating the **** out of #50, and towards the end had no steering left at all and the car was stuck turning left. Needless to say he eventually died out and the #707 car won. It was a green station wagon, but there was something fishy about that car.. He wasnt even smoking at the end! -- I think he might have just mounted the radiator on top of the motor instead of leaving it in the front, and for all you who dont know, thats considered cheating.
After the races we went to the pit area and checked out a few of the cars, mom got a picture of me by the '65 mustang wheelie car which was pretty awesome when you got to look at the engine up close. We then went further into the pit area and i got an actual used tire from one of the stock cars and had it signed by the driver! Right now it resides about 3 feet away from me against the wall, where its going to reside from now on.
And that was my night! Sorry about all the writing, but i just get enthusiastic when writing about a good race night...
If you didnt read this whole thing i can understand why
(Oh, and if this is in the wrong forum, im sorry! I didnt know where it went.)
P.S. Damn this is a big post..
