Oh Spurs.

Jean-Luc-Picard-Full-of-win.jpg

It was looking so good for them yet in January. Tough one for them to be so close and fall short, although there is still time for them to come back.

Honestly, I don't really care where they finish, I'd just like to see them rewarded for playing some of the most attractive football in the league. Nearly every game I've been able to watch has been hugely enjoyable, and I think that they should at least get something for that. Maybe that's naive of me, because as they say the table doesn't lie, but I can't help but feel that it would be slightly unjust for them not to be in the Champion's League next year.

In all honesty, I've been more impressed by Norwich, Newcastle and Swansea this year. Not that Spurs have played badly or unattractively, of course.

Swansea has been hugely impressive, and so has Norwich. To have been able to assemble squads with nor real "established talents" and do as well as they have is amazing. Hopefully they can hold onto their players this summer and stick around for awhile, because both teams are fantastic in their own way. I think everyone is still surprised by how good Swansea is in possession, the Welsh Barca almost !

I was/am impressed but not surprised by Newcastle this year. When I looked at the players they had, I knew that if they were managed well they would be finishing comfortably in the top half. I didn't really expect them to be fighting for Champion's League qualification though. Cabaye, Tiote, Ben Arfa, and Ba are all such class talents; they just needed that final "it" to really break out, which Pardew has been able to give them.

Aaron Wilbraham plays for Norwich. I remember watching him several years ago having an absolute shocker for Stockport. One of the worst performances from a visiting player I have ever seen. I know he's not a main player but that shows the sort of players that Norwich have, and they've made it work.

Then again, I remember watching Jon Walters pulling on the red shirt of Wrexham and being one of the worst home players I have ever seen and he's done well for himself since.

People go on about this "old guard" nonsense, Lampard, Terry, Ivanovic, Drogba, all among Chelseas top scorers.

I agree Chelsea need those players and shouldn't be looking to get rid of them yet, although they should be looking to bring in good young players to play alongside them otherwise they'll fade away when they are gone.

I think teams are starting to understand how Swansea play now though and next season they are really going to struggle unless they change how they play.

Norwich have done really well this season also but could struggle next year too, although I think they can scrap better than Swansea and that will really help them.

As for Newcastle they have been the team of the season, no doubt and Alan Pardew deserves a lot of credit. He has also conducted himself in a far better manner than he did when he was at West Ham. His signings have been very good too, although they may struggle to hang on to some of them as they have played so well. Pressure could be another factor next year as it has not been that high this year, after their big name players all left no one expected much from them. Next year will be a whole different matter and I just can't see them matching their results from this year even if they manage to keep Cabaye, Ba, Cisse, Krul and the rest.

Liverpool are winning at Blackburn at the moment, but they are down to ten men - Doni, who was in goal to replace the suspended Pepe Reina, has been sent off and will now also be suspended  Liverpool will have to rely on their third choice keeper for the next game or two!

Oh for 🤬 sake..

I hope they took of Flanagan do that they don't go down to 9..

Oh my God, this is hilarious.

Liverpool's replacement replacement goalie, Jones, almost got himself sent off as well  He took an age to clear a ball and Yakubu blocked the clearance. The ball shot up into the air, and fell toward the goal - Jones then dropped the catch and took Yakubu out at the same time. Really should have been a red card!! Oh. Dear.

He's conceded a penalty, but the ref gave him a yellow card only!

Blackburn are back level now... 2-2.

edit: The pundits think the yellow card was the right call - I don't think so though! The goalie drops the ball, Yakubu is the only other player in the box or anywhere near the ball, and Jones deliberately pushes Yakubu to the ground! Absolutely comical, and it was only because Yakubu was facing away from goal that Jones was spared a straight red!

edit 2: Andy Carroll should have scored - a great header forced an excellent, fingertip save by the goalie - SHAME IT WAS HIS OWN GOALIE

Lucky, very lucky... Blackburn missed a penalty too, and Liverpool arguably should have been down to 9 men, with no replacement goalkeeper!

You forget Jose Enrique ;) but Blackburn missed a valuable opportunity to take 3 points today. Liverpool were very much lucky victors.

And then Brad Jones was lucky not to get sent off.. Meaning Liverpool would have been down to their 4th choice keeper for the Semi-Final, and that would either be Peter Guculisci (Can't spell that surname for the life of me) or a outfielder..

I'm considering us lucky too even have Brad Jones for the Semi-Final..

Man United, what the hell are you doing?

EDIT: Ugh, first time ever losing against Wigan. If there's something I hate more than losing, it is losing AND setting a new record.

I believe it's over and Manchester united has won

Classic example of speaking too soon...

Gap back down to 5 points tonight - by all accounts, Man Utd were pretty poor tonight - and Wigan had a good goal disallowed as well... interesting result, and good to see Wigan climb out of the drop zone!

First time since September for Wigan. Out of the drop zone.

Could they do yet another great escape?

Four of the five teams have a chance to stay up, it will only take a couple of wins to get out of it, it is just a case and keeping your nerve. I wouldn't be disappointed if QPR and Blackburn went down.

I'd definitely be happy to trade orange for orange.

Wolves to go down, Blackpool to come back up.

Wolves are gone, their chance of staying up went when the sacked Big Mick. Even though he is blessed with a nose that can smell round corners, he would have done a better job than Terry Connor.

Brilliant.

Let's get Ollie back. It looks like we'll be seeing the return of Southampton and Reading and I for one will more than welcome Ollie's tangarine army gracing the top flight.

I think Bolton and Blackburn will go down. If one of those doesn't, the third candidate will be QPR.

Mancini concedes title despite narrowing the gap

Casting doubt over his own future, perhaps?

Yesterday's game was another masterclass from the officials, who are so bad it's not funny anymore. Wigan had a goal disallowed for nothing but then scored after a corner which clearly shouldn't have been a corner in the first place, Evans should have been sent off and Man Utd should have had two clear cut penalties. This is 5 major decisions, all wrong, in just one game.:banghead:

Right now the refs and the assistants even more so are just not good enough and they are not helped by the FA who refuse to do anything about all the diving and other cheating that's quickly getting out of hand. Not giving Balotelli an extra ban for his potentially leg breaking challenge on Song is a prime example of the FA's inability to run the game in this country properly.👎

True, the officials were pretty poor, to say the least.

Somewhat unbelievably though, Sir Alex was unusually understanding and gracious in defeat. In his post match interview, he said something along the lines of 'you win some, you lose some', but also added that not one decision went their way (hardly!).

It's a pity, but Sir Alex's main point was correct - that bad decisions have a tendency to cancel out over the long term, and oddly, last night's game was a microcosm of that. Wigan deserved to win - the officials made a comedy of errors, but in the end, they didn't favour anyone.

Damien Comolli bought him.

And he's gone: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17687524

This Man City is a world of difference from 2 weeks back. Watching Aguero and Tevez play together this match was eye-candy!

Facebook now tells me that Andy Carroll is a world class striker.

However, Liverpool did deserve it over the 90 minutes.

Very happy with todays results, not long until Scumchester are back in 2nd!
And a great semi-final, back to our second home for the 3rd time this year!

^Carrol may not be firing regularly yet, but he's come up with important goals when it counts
