.......I'll join, but I got one pet peev......Why are you considering the Corvette a Muscle car? It's not.......Hell, even Musclecarclub.com doesn't consider it a muscle car, and not many Muscle car fans do.....And the same can be said about the Viper.

I don't know, the corvette is an american V8, and the one I posted was a 454 Big Block, but Drifster, you said it wasn't? Just curious. :D

A muscle car is an intermediate sized, performance oriented model, powered by a large V8 engine, at an affordable price. Most of these models were based on "regular" production vehicles. These vehicles are generally not considered muscle cars, even when equipped with large V8s. If there was a high performance version available, it gets the credit, and not the vehicle that it was based on.

The strict definition only includes intermediate size vehicles. In reality, performance oriented intermediate size vehicles didn't appear until 1964. Before then, manufacturers took existing fullsize vehicles and added extra performance to them. Because of this, the early fullsize performance vehicles are generally considered muscle cars.

In addition to fullsize and intermediate muscle cars, a number of smaller vehicles started appearing on the automotive performance scene. These new "pony cars" and compact cars are generally considered muscle cars only if they have the top of the line performance engines and options.

Examples: Chevrolet Camaro (SS and Z28 models only), Ford Mustang (GTs and Boss only), Plymouth 'Cudas (no Barracudas)

Two seat sports cars such as the Chevrolet Corvette and the Dodge Viper are not considered muscle cars due to their high price and specialty nature. The only exception is the AMC AMX as it was relatively cheap, and was based on the AMC Javalin pony car.

Yeah you can trace the Corvette back to it's roots, its always been a sports car. Anyway here a picture of some dragin' Camaros.

How come a barracudas can't be a muscle car? They had the hemi the 440 six packs and wedge motors. And as for your camaro status on only Z-28 and SS ,what about the copo cars stripped down plain coupes with a 427 in them if thats not muscle nothing is.And a few had the all aluminum 427 .So in your cassification a 64 thunderbolt wouldn't be a muscle car,or the factory lightweights from 61-66 or 67.Oh and as for AMC what about the SC Rambler super small car 390 4 speed ,A GREAT MUSCLE CAR . And some cuda's i wouldn't say are muscle , my uncle has a 72 cuda 340 4 speed it runs good but it dont impress me at all , my dads friend has a 68 hemi road runner that thing will make you piss yourself when the second four barrell comes in and breaks traction at over 90 MPH. Well just my thoughts sorry if i made some of you mad

Barracudas are muscle cars. There are also some lighweight muscle cars such as the 64 1/2-69 Mustangs, they were very light. I would know because my dad owned a '67 Mustang GTA Fastback which only had the 289. He had to put cinder blocks in the trunk just to keep the back wheels on the ground.

Well don't blame me for that deffinition that's the deffinition from musclecarclub.com...I don't agree 100% of the time....Becuse I feel a Barracuda is a muscle car, same for a superbird....but I know a vette isn't...neither is a viper..neither is a javelin...neither is any of the other "purpose built speedsters" ya know?

What about that Cobra? By definition, that's not a Muscle car either. it's expensive, and is just a two seater. Not to ruin your pic Charger.

The cobra isn't a muscle car.....Its a purpose built track car......With 2 seats...and is small......like the vette but better in all aspects.

I have to dissagree with the cobra being just a purpose built track car . The first cobras in 62 i think had a 260 small block and i have seen a few on the streets shelby's true purpose built track car was the daytona coupe 500 HP 289 all buisiness.Ok heres an easy ? for you guys , What was highest rated muscle car motor ?

440 Magnum? I don't know I'm just a Mopar guy. Anyway musclecarfan is right, the Cobra isn't a purpose built track car, meaning that it's original purpose wasn't to be made for the track. Even if it was, in order to make a stock car, race car, or such available to race with you have to sell so many to the public. Really there were some Cobra's made into racers as musclecarfan stated but the Cobra I think is more of a muscle car. Even so though, a lot of muscle cars were raced on the track.

Ok, engine size doesn't mean it's not a purpose built sports car..

IS a muscle car..

Man i just looked at that site and it just made me laugh. They say a car isnt a muscle car because its too big and luxury ,i have ridden in a 70 SS 454 monte carlo and its as much a muscle car as they come.then they list the cobra as a 2 seater purpose built car and then they put it as one of the 50 fastest muscle cars .im not the smartest guy but if its not a muscle car why put it in the list as one of the fastest:confused: . Man them guys need rethink what they put on that site

WTF is all this nonsense???? aw, please. does it REALLY matters if its a muscle car by definition or not? that just plain sucks. to me, a muscle car is anything with actual muscle, from a 64 mustang, or even a 57 CORVETTE, to, say, a 72 monte carlo SS as stated by muscle car fan, a 5.0 mustang, and a freggin dart. besides... muscle car club.com???? OMFG PHU-LEEEEZE!!! go to REAL sources for stuff like that. ask in hotrod.com and you will have REAL answers there. for me anything with real muscle is a muscle car and that is all, I dont care what is the seat configuration, nor if its four or twoo doors, just if it hauls. that is all that should matter.

Cano

Im part of this too. dang you sunny, you KNOW I should have been there from the beggining! ¬¬:irked:
