OK, GT Sport, it was fun, but...

This is where I stopped reading this ;-)

The fact is it is broken and only to what degree is debatable.

“Broken” is a sensationalist descriptor in this case. The DR/SR system clearly works as intended. Just because collective minds can come up with improvements to it, doesn’t mean it’s broken. To be broken would suggest it doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do. To be clear, being able to game a system isn’t a requisite of being broken - just in need of improvements.

The only thing I’ll agree that’s broken is the Penalty System. Specifically, the judgement algorithm. I believe you & others are conflating the penalty system and the SR system, which I could understand because they work hand in hand.

You're right, we can assume SR is working as intended. Out of interest, would you agree that the "intention" behind SR ( the way the system is set up ) is unfavorable ?

There's a really good racing platform here and there's always someone ready to race on it. Cha-ching!

It could be so much better but for now, it isn't. There's still a really good racing platform here though and still always someone ready to play it. Cha-ching!

I think, if everyone playing in Sport Mode had the same intention the racing would be great. That isn't the case though, the game rewards speed over safety.

This. With races four laps long, you are only putting more anxiety on the demolition derby type that just wants to win at any cost. He'll go for a gap every time, regardless of consequences, because he knows he can't just take his time in order to drive you to an error, or attempt a more logical pass or wait and see the racing develops and craft his own strategy about how to get in front. And sorry, but the whole gaming culture towards multiplayer, derived from shooters and other genres, is "you got to win, win, win, all the time", otherwise you are a crappy player and/or the game isn't fun. Things get even more complicated when you try to make your game as some sort of digital equivalent for real motor racing, just the kind of sport where not winning is seen as an abject failure (yes, all sports are about winning, I know).

There are other bonkers choices too. I can't understand their reasoning for making everyone race hard tires on daily events that should be more accessible and welcoming to newcomers and people who eventually don't follow motorsports and don't really know how to behave on track. What's the point of putting a Mazda Eunos with sports hard on Tsukuba? Why can't it be soft tires?

At the risk of getting you wrong, mate ... and the risk of talking nonsense :
I've picked a very small glass. I'm not complaining as it saves me from thirst.
I keep dreaming however, and I dream of this :

Wasn't there someone who could turn water into wine ?

:)

Juice Box > Glass

Who cares if it's half full or half empty. You know it's empty when it makes that slurping sound. :dunce:

When the number of players starts to make that slurping sound.... that's when this game is in trouble. Not close to that yet. Just a lot of backwash. Ewww.. sorry about that image. But applicable.

Am I looking at the totally missing top half or the racy GT branded bottom half with the nice bouquet and full flavour?:P

We're both looking at the bottom part 👍 ! Honestly I don't care about quantity ( so to speak ), it's all about quality. And while the white watery thing sure can keep you alive, the red flavory stuff is where the fun is.

What a write lol  ...

Plenty of that to be had. Maybe not in the cut throat sport mode but lobbies fit the bill nicely as there's no pressure to perform. Perfect for the Ent side of me.

Doing a lobby in the afternoons when the update hits to see if I can get some one make racing done anyway. Plenty of life left in GTS for me.

What other sims are available on PS4? Can iRacing be played on the PS4 through Steam?
Niche driving games like F1, NASCAR, Rally.

Unlikely for now. And probably more stable on a cheap PC w/mid range graphics card anyways.

Jimmer made a reverse case for the next GT to be available on PC.

Highly unlikely Sony would do that though.

Nah, IR needs a healthy punch of hardware resources, PS4 can’t deliver that. It’s a midrange 2013 PC, after all.

I'm totally addicted to Dirt Rally 2.0 right now. Have barely played GTS since I bought it. For people who think rally is all about dirt and sliding around, its not. The Spain location is replete with epic winding tarmac roads and its pure joy for a sim racing enthusiast. Monaco (mountains with snow and ice, but also tarmac) is also a fantastic location. As are many of the others but those are my two faves. I quite like sliding around sideways anyway so it wasn't hard to sell me on this game.

Also for those who are desperate for rain, water and weather conditions in GTS - Dirt 2.0 should scratch the itch. Beautiful looking game with fantastic weather effects. Love those shimmering water puddles.

But have they solved the FFB issue? There was near to none when it came out, and since I need a good FFB I haven’t touched it since.

FWIW

I found Assetto a bit too much of a downgrade graphics wise, after playing GTS
I found F1 2018 bloody difficult and TBH didn't persevere all that much. Only bought it 'cos it was heavily discounted on ps store a few months back
I found Dirt 4 to be pretty crap

If light damage was a standard parameter, I think things would change a bit more for the better. It's one thing to avoid contact to avoid penalties, it's another to also worry about contact actually impacting the performance of your car.
I’m all for a higher degree of damage to impact the performance of your car .. simply lower a sportsman rating won’t discourage drivers from side bumping you to protect 10th place .. I would like to see an instant tire wear drop to zero from side collisions and a higher front end damage to punters ,dive bombers , and even brake checkers .. forcing a pit stop on both parties could discourage blocking ( not defending ) your position .. even if it results in the innocent driver being penalized as well, I still think real damage would prevent dr farming .. also maybe a disqualification review much like the “report” button could settle things as well .. they would be less inclined to cheat for points if they don’t receive any.
^ not a genius but I did stay at a Holiday Inn once
