Coming back from a lunch date with my wife. I really want to get her a convertible. Stuck in traffic, and a flash of red catches my eye in a car lot.

I pull in to check it out. It's a '97 328i convertible, red/black/black leather. 35,000 miles, automatic (that's a bonus for her), exterior is spotless. The engine bay looks like it was just born. A little wear on the seats, but not much. They're asking $27,900 for it. I'm intrigued. Then I looked farther and saw it...

A '98 M3 convertible, red/black/black leather! A mere 8,500 miles! 5 speed! The exterior looks like it just came off the transporter! I didn't open the hood but it must look like new. They're asking 37,500 for it.

My soul mate's soul mate. We could go from matching white Neons to matching red Bimmers. I can't stand it. I just need somebody to FedEx me a cashier's check for $60,000, Saturday delivery. I'll pay the postage.

I just had to share my delicious agony...
 
Well, if Vented's check doesn't arrive in time, I caught this thing on the news about some guy auctioning off his scalp for use as ad space. $10k to start, $100K Buy-It-Now. Probably needs it to help pay for that Z8 he's standing by in the ad.

If he gets $100K for that, I'm giving up. On what, I'm not exactly sure, but on something.

that is hilarious. u gotta let us know if they actually auction it off to anyone. a tatoo on the head would have to hurt.

i gotta say, i would definately do it for 100,000. it would be wierd if u were bald later in life, and that ad shows up. guess those years are free advertisement :D

the question is...how low would u be willing to go for a tatoo ad on your head. 50k? 10k? 5k?

i think 50k is nearing my limit, because its so permanent. i would definately do it for 75-100k.

Damn i cant even imagine how much 60,000 in change would weigh. I have about $1,000+ in change right now. Let me tell you its close to 150lbs if not more. :eek:

That would be a step down. Why would I want to drive a less powerful car that doesn't handle as well as what I've got in my driveway right now?

And no, Piglet, they're both white. Actually, if I had seen one in real life before I bought the first one, they'd both be that obnoxious Nitro Yellow-green color...

Noc: for $60,000 in change, I'd take a couple days' vacation, borrow my brother-in-law's 1-ton pickup, and drive up to Canada myself.

I gotta disagree with you that the Neon handles worse than a Civic..The Honda has better chassis mate :lol: Here we go again....

Numerous American SCCA championships in both amateur road racing and autocross prove you wrong. Since when did any sanctioning body have to change the rules AGAINST the worse car? Yet the Neon was legislated off the podium because the Civic drivers complained so much. The SCCA comp board apparently feels the Neon handles so much better than the Civic that the Si needs a 28 horsepower advantage to make up for it.

But since you're impervious to any facts in this case, I'm not going to go any further with you on it.
 
um yeah chrysler eh hmm thought it was dodge thes days dont think it was chrystler ever was it. oh and id take the civic for reliablility reasons, now what i mean. neon american-bad civic-japan-good beside who said you had to get a civic you could an accord v6 faster that your neon i bet
 
yeah um ok i'm not shur what ur saying bcos you don't ever punctuate or capitalize your sentences "now" i don't know what you mean american-bad japan-good some people don't just swing on the bag of anything from japan and actually prefer something else strange as it may seem to you riceboys everything with an h or a on the hood is not the best car you can buy besides a ferrari oh wait that's not japanese is it i mean a skyline but too bad you can't buy those here can you i have had no reliability problems with my neon at all and i know plenty of older civics and accords that drink oil like no tomorrow

accord v6s aren't that fast they are kind of heavy they plow like a barge unless you do a ton of suspension work and last i hurd you could only get them with an automatic transmission which i don't want had enough yet? honda is not god believe it or not
 
Geez neon duke! It was just a suggestion, i mean whatever dude. How can you compare Hondas and Ferrari's? Besides I didn't say that only japanese cars are good.
 
Well, between here and your anti-everything-except-Japanese rant in the Rumble Strip, I beg to differ.

I'm just tired of the perception that every Japanese car is wonderful, some European cars are good, and that nearly all American cars suck. If I had a dollar for every time someone has told me that I should sell my Neon and get a Honda, while refusing to believe that it would be a step down in both handling and power, my Neon would have been free.

My Neon has never stranded me - not once - which I cannot say for the Supra it replaced. Japanese cars are fine, but that's all they are. They are not perfect, they do not beat everything, and they do not last forever - contrary to popular opinion.

By the way, no, I don't think the Neon is the best car ever made, at all. But it does offer the best combination of performance, handling, and space in its price class, by far.

ok dude chill, to tell you the truth i hate hondas ok bud i dont like Japanese but i know that they are in fact more reliable bud. you can keep your neon whatever, but i know that neons get real cheap real fast! what anti-everything rant the one with mazkid. I didnt say everythings bad, GMs are half decents, Dodge is alrigt i suppose but ford sucks. All Japanese are ok i like nissan the best(obviously) toyotas good, Hondas very reliable but have a bad name cause of all the white ricer posers. euros are nice BMW hmm mercedes is alright slk 320, volvo is crap, aston martins are overweight overpriced and overratted, i like the fiat coupe its nice and some of their oldie cars, i just dont like american views on cars theyd rather slap fattty v8s in cars that try to make better engines with less cylinders, i mean lets take the vipers v10 8 liters 500 hp thats only 50 hp a cylinder and and 62.5 a liter, lets look at a s2000 hmm 124.5 hp per liter and 62.25 a cylinder.
 
Yeah, concerning the Viper and the S2000, you're right - if you look at the single aspect of peak horsepower per litre.

Take a look at the horsepower and torque curves of the two engines, and you'll see why the S2000 looks better on paper and the Viper looks better hurtling down the track.

And this is nothing against the S2000, because I like them alot.
