One make race- what is wrong with Opel Speedster race?

i fully modded my speedster turbo and turned the autoset transmission down low to give it good acceleration, and won each race by atleast 10 seconds.

i've noticed the same bug with the 206 cup, i had to get the rally car and even in b-spec it couldn't beat them.

The rally car is overkill. I just turbo'd the 206 and put R1's and won with ease. No need to spend 3 quarters of a million for a rally car to use on the streets, to win only one champoinship. The 206 RC is a great FF IMO.

Wow, big talk about this, I dont think i've even click on the one-make races in Opel dealership. Sonds like a challenge where i will enjoy cheating, becuase i'm very much not in a good mood right now..

I am bumping this dusty old thread to say I won the Opel Speedster races. Finally.

I used the fully modded NA Speedster w/ stage 3 turbo. Here's what got me the win:

More practice
No beer
NOS

My game is at 55% complete, all of that A Spec, and this is the one and only time I've had to use NOS.

Oh well, a win is a win :)

I still haven't completed any of the 3 in this little series.

I tried a few times but I gave up...

The way I see it, it calls for a near maxed out car and flawless driving.

That's impossible for me at the moment.

To be honest, I did it on my first try and found it surprisingly easy. I used the NA Speedster (NA Tuning), with no wing. The common misconception is that higher hp = easier win, and it's not like that. The NA version gets lower hps than the Turbo, but it's much quicker and more responsive.

Take a base Speedster - NOT the turbo - and add Turbo 3, chip, race intake/exhaust, 3x clutch with race flywheel, race suspension, and Lightweight 3. R3 tires.

Skip the wing and any other parts and you'll get 200 A-spec points. Turn off all the drivers aids. You don't need to drive flawlessly - the only race that was even tight at all was Suzuka East. Everywhere else my margin was between +2 and +6 seconds. The thing is, I'm not that great a driver. I'm definitely mid-pack at best in the WRS. You can do it!

After coming in here and reading the posts, i'll have to give this race a try, especially if it seems to prove more challenging than all the others 👍

Is this the only race with the "inhanced" AI performance or are there more ?

Honestly, this series (along with the GT World Championship) are the first races where you can't just spend more money and automatically go faster than the competition. That's why so many people who have either A) blown off the license tests, or B) gotten this far by just spending money to go faster seem to have so much trouble with them.

To echo everyone else, I found the races quite difficult with the turbo car.
I found them to be much easier, but still quite difficult with the N/A car.

Sweet, thanks for the help.

It just sucks that i've already bought the turbo and done some minor upgrades...

I know its only like 35k, but still...

there's the Peugeot 206 race which seems to be almost as hard too
That one was pretty easy, you just got to know how to drive FF's. Both the Speedster and 206 Cup was fairly easy, and I only got gold on like 60/80 of my liscense tests. I spend alot of times driving FF cars like the 500HP+ SRT-4, so all you need to do is baby the 206 when it comes to turning and accelerating. You can EASILY beat the AI in braking, especially in FF races.

The Speedster one was pretty easy to B-Spec too. I used both of the Speedsters, but the turbo one took more time to tune, especially the suspension.

I hate FF.

Also, "Yay, my first sig'd phrase ever!", a la Tupacrulez from GameFaqs.

Funny how they tie in. (FF Cougar, me hating FF, etc)

Although, that said Cougar CAN make 500+hp... Still sucks.

Off-topic:

You'd be amazed how a sub-300hp FF car handles much, much better than a 500hp+ FF does.

Yes, you would. Also, better tires are a worthwhile investment. Spinning S1s (the longest-lasting tire compound available) like crazy will kill the tires instantly, but upping to the stickier R3 compound you'll actually get BETTER front tire life. Hmm.

WHEW!!!!!!After more than a year of trying to win this race I finally did it!!!!!I was originally trying with the Speedster Turbo but wasnt getting anywhere...best I did was a second place.Thirty minutes ago I was reading this thread and I decided to try the NA version with the Stg3 turbo kit.Amazing!!!! Mind you, the race was close and I had to use NOS a couple of times but...I WON!!!!! For those just trying it however it helps alot to know the track. So practice is a must. The NA car seems to respond alot better than the turbo does and that helps alot on a course like Seattle. Thanks for the tip guys!!!! Much appreciated

I know, I used a 280HP Peugeot 206 S16 to win here, I'm just saying I'm used to taking care of 500HP FF's. :) It is not recommended though, you are much better off with a 350-400HP FR than a FF with over 500HP. I can put as much power as possible, all I got to do is control it though. I like a challenge. :)[/Off-Topic]

I wonn the 206 series today!!!! I had two races left to win...driving park and monaco....I just couldnt win these two races...so I just went and got a stg3 NA tune and adjusted my diff settings and boom!!! I won!!!! Oh!! and like before, it helps alot to know the course....

You made me all giddy. Now i GOTTA go and do the speedster race. I love challenges <3
👍

Edit: It was easy! 260hp, racing mediums/softs. Thats it. Ok, at times it was hard, because of the cars weird handling. I think it wants to lift thw front wheels off the ground, because of weight distribution, and its aerodynamics. I think it might handle a LOT better, if the rear would sit higher, and the suspension would be harder. And lower the front as much as possible, but make it soft, so that the tires would still be better contacted to the road, on acceleration and higher speeds. Im gonna try it out now 👍

Edit: 2
I tried it, two laps with my "normal" setup, and then two laps, with the "new" setup. There was a 1.4 second difference. And i could def. feel a difference in the last long corner at Tsukuba. If anyone wants to try out, shoot me a pm for my setup, or make one yourself. Id lvoe to make this car handle really well 👍

I did the 206 race with a bog standard 206 WRC and was still getting 180 points a race. The speedster race was a lot of fun. The AI being so fast keeps you on your toes and doesnt allow you to get complacent which too many other races do. I hope there will be more series like that in GT5.

As did I. I gave it a full tune, modded the suspension & tranny to my liking, and that was it. It was a cake walk, but I will give it this: don't suck, or you'll finish last. I passed the whole field in each race on the first half of the first lap. That was easy. But they were on my tail the whole race, and didn't let up a bit. I used the NA version.

I finally beat it last week, with the advice of some of you, using the non turbo model. What helped the most was Nitrous though, set at max power.

I'm glad you beat it, finally. Congratulations!

Now, I'm not saying you cheated at all, but the nitrous is really unnecessary. Now that you've got the race under your belt, practice and learn the courses well enough that you don't need the boost. You'll find that the effort will make you faster in all cars in other races!
👍

Thanks!

Haha yea I conisder myself pretty good but I have lots to work on.

It's just really hard for me to race flawless or near-flawless races, so that nitrous helps a lot.
