Hey, my question: do you believe that buying a race mod is a leader in the asthetics department?

IMO it is prob the worst thing you can do to a car, change it to an ugly color (most of them) and loaded it with sponsors. Doesnt it kinda defeat the purpose of buying a nice car?
My skyline is the best car in existance in my head, changing it makes it look like a peice.
anyway enough about what i think :)

some look cool: tried the Dodge Intrepid?
mostly, i agree. almost all the racing modificatios are ugly, or the downforce adjustment isn't worth the $80,000+.

Ok......try race modding an Altezza RS200 in blue, Mercedes SLK Kompressor in silver/red, Galant FR-4 in black/white, Lancer Evo VI in red/black, Lotus Elise 190 in like any color, Vipers, Corvettes, Venturi......there are a TON of nice race mods.

Well I have to agree some mods are cheesy but look at the peugeot 106 the citroen saxo - these are regular cars with a bit more looks with race mods. Other cars may get only paint jobs some are good some not. I for one like racing mods: it gives that racing feeling to it and in practical terms loses some weight. The aerodinamic adjustments... well I don´t really mess around with that much but some cars do make use of it. Just don´t show me a car in bright green :irked:

I liked the race mod - it was pretty cool seeing some of the cars tarted up in different colours and with race sponsorship (I remember the race-trim Subaru Forester - looked pretty cool, although the colours were unfortunate).

I can see why they were left out of GT3 - pain in the arse to get modelled, especially when you consider how long it took them to do each individual car - I do miss it, though.

I guess we're the minority on this thread! I like all the race mods, even the ugly ones have potential with the right rims.

How could you dislike a better Hp to weight ratio? I like to grab a perfect sleeper such as a Mondeo. Modify it beyond belief and give the GT class grief :D

GT3 doesn't have race mod? I don't want it! I'll keep my GT2 on PS1:mischievous:

The fact of the matter is the game in the end tries to be as realistic as possible in one simple way, racing isn't cheap. Modding a car for racing gives you the opertunity to tune the aerodynamics of a vehicle, a very important aspect later in the game. It expencive and ugly, but in the end, a well tuned car is worth every penny.

Hello,
I tend to agree with most of the members here that likes the race modification, even though some doesn't look that swell. But, I have read from some pro's of the game that says that by buying the race modification when allowed, will help the preformance and handling of the cars. Just think, on the front, you'll have a skirt that will come as close to the ground as possible. This helps the cars by not letting the wind underneath the car, thrus better handling. So, yes, I suggest if you would like a better handling car that will help you achive faster lap times, to me it is well worth the cost of the credits to purchace it for your cars.;)

Hey does anyone ever seen the mod of the almera vz-r n1? It has two colors a green one and a blue one. When I change to the blue one I get green near the wind shield - does this happen to anyone else is this a bug or what?

Yeah, it's all all versions. One of the dullest race modin the game.

If it desparately needs to lose weight or gain downforce then I race-mod it:
Mitsu 3000GT
Supra RZ/turbo
Cosmo Type-E

If the race-mod actually looks nice, or better in rare cases, then yes:
Viper GTS

But if it doesn't stand to gain much with downforce and losing 50 pounds, and it makes the car look worse, then no:
Dodge Neon
Dodge Intrepid (FF dragster?)
Toyota 2000GT
...and many others...

I generally only race mod a car when I'm doing a challenge that requires one. I don't think it's worth the money. It ends up being over 100,000Cr after the weight reductions.

It is expensive but if you have money to spend it only improves the car with exceptions of really light cars that require some tunning afterwards.

Some cool mods: celica gt-four rc ´91 - this one´s a classic; chaser trd sports x30; legnum super vr-4 - good color/rim combination; accord sir-t; laguna v6 - an example of how the right green can work; viper gts - example of cool, low profile mod since the car has stripes as well

Ugly ones: Trueno gt apex II; bp apex craft trueno - it´s in the family; mr2 spider - an example of how to ruin a good selection of colors for the stock car; 3000gt vr-4 turbo´99 - hey we can minimize the damage, choose white with green decals; rx-7 gt turbo´83 - this one almost made me keep him unchanged, ugly ugly colors; Sileithy; almost all of the imprezas - a shame; GT350/500 - I prefer the stock stripe/paint combinations; corvette gran sport/zr-1- got nothing against the flag but I think you´ll agree that that´s just plain ugly, just the stripe would look cool though.

Some of the SuperTouring cars have good looking, real race mods: The Mondeo, for example.

I rather like the Shelby GT300 race mod; I saw a special on old Trans-Am cars from the 60's and that exact same car was shown, restored, along with old footage. I have to admit, I like that car more and more since that airing.

Three of the four AE86's have okay race mods: the '85s and the Levin '83 aren't bad. The '83 Trueno is horrid (I leave it stock). However, they're alll for real.

The '67/'69 Corvette are also historically-minded (old Le Mans competitors); opion differs on whether they look good or not. But they need the weight-loss, anyhow.

The '88/'91/'95 Celicas are based on the old Celica rally cars, so I go for it.

Just finished playing around with the Alfa GTV, it doesn't look bad, but the race mod includes some of my favorite wheels; the simple 5-spoke Enkeis available on page 1!

Yeah those wheels are cool and speaking of alfa the 156 2.5 (and I believe the other too) has a great racing mod with a cool variety of colors to choose from - in my 1st game I went for the white/red decals while now I prefer the blue/yellow decals.

The Ford mondeo, Vauxhall/opel vectra, Nissan/Infiniti Primera, Pugeot 406, Renault Laguna and Audi A4/S4 are based on BTCC cars from 1998. Although I like the Nissan Primera the best, in its vodaphone Liverys (Mainly because they kicked so much arse in real life).

The lister storm race mod was from the Brit GT series, or maybe world. I think the Alpha 156 is ETCC, but i'm not too sure about that one. You would be surprised the amount of race mods that are real, for example the R34's second race mod is for the Team Endless Skyline in JGTC (but with the Endless logos removed) I have even seen the GT0 in those Puma liverys. My favorite race mod has to be the Lancia Delta Integrale HF and the stratos.

Mainly the ones that PD made themselves suck and the ones that are based on real life are quite good. Although I do like my Black race modded ford KA with gold BBS mesh, lovely little rally car.

How about the Mini race mod, that looks quite good, although it is only side skirts and a spoiler.

If you look in my Car lot, you'll never find a car without a racing mod unless it can't get one.

I'm all for the racing mods.
I reckon that they're the best part of gt2.

I really wish that they had it in GT3.

I hope they have it in GT4. :D

ok new question, In GT3 you can select race and drift (i'm going by a one time play memory). i seem to recall being excited about a drift mode, i tried it and it seemed my car would over react to a turn. Do you think this is a good thing, or do you think it is better to use a complex drift method, i mean, i'm all for the simple drift that it provides for some corners, but it really doesnt pose a challenge.

anyway please correct me if i'm horribly wrong on this issue.

Well, to answer that question: No, I almost always use Standard setup, I never liked the Drift setup in arcade mode, the car over-reacts to steering input.

Then again, I haven't raced the Arcade AI in a long time; I could beat them with a Ka or Mini, for example. Sure it's a challenge, but not very exciting, anyhow.

Well, maybe that's another challenge for me. I need another one for this game.

Same here and in my garage there are really only a few that can´t take race mods, heck almost all used cars can take some mixed paints - in the case of the skyline gt-r32 v-spec II (damn do we got find abreviations for this thing) it looks just that mixed paints... kinda thrown into the car :irked:

I think I know what you mean.

As for the Drift and Racing options, I prefer the racing option because although drift gives you more turning ability like a Rally Car, the racing gives you more accelleration towards your car and giving you a good lead after a corner.

Usually anyway.

I like the race mods most of them make the cars look really cool and they help out with weight etc. :D they add something to the car but it is good to have 2 of the better ones one with the mod and one without.

i think most people would understand r32 vspecII :)

Well with the right rims... maybe... it definitly packs some HP... I mean you got to respect it - it´s an old car and stuff... the horses... I guess the horses make up for it don´t they?.... .. ......

 NOOOOO. It sucks so much when I race modded it I almost smelled it :grumpy:

The lancia Y - that´s a cool race moder... no horses though

I dunno, its kind of nice to think hey my car is not a road car anymore, its a race car now. My fav car on GT2 (ex. Lancers) is the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4, and I think the race mod looks beautiful, the Green with White Puma sponsorship.

Some race mods are cool (Eclipse GS-T, Viper GTS), but some (*cough* '93 Civic Si) are awful. The worst is the Intrepid. It was so tasteless and ugly I had to get it.
