Yeah, it's only 2 litER. For us 'Mericans that's rather small. My previous Impreza was 2.5L, but Boxer engines don't sound like a normal 4cyl engine and the BRZ does sound like it has something bigger under the hood. Doesn't really feel like 200hp but I may have been spoiled by my turbo. :)

Speaking of spoiled... I'm getting there quite quickly after having the WRX for a few days. I always thought the RS was peppy for a naturally aspirated 4-banger, but since I've been driving the WRX, I'm afraid the RS is going to feel like a turd now. :dopey:

Can I sign up as a reserve??? Since there is 16 DRIVERS. I can fill in if needed. :dopey:

::EDIT::

Signed up for Tuesday only.

Sounds good, we will probably have a slot open on Tuesdays. 👍

It's quite a change! I went through the same thing with mine, always though my Impreza was pretty quick but it's really nothing compared to the turbo (even our small one)! The power comes on crazy fast once you hit the turbo, still makes me giggle!

I'm planning to load a tune to the ECU soon, I forget where it's from but it's a highly recommended tuner who specializes in it. It's always recommended over the AccessPort off-the-shelf tune but can be loaded through the AccessPort. Supposed to smooth out the turbo and strengthen the boost at high RPM's.

When you remember the name of the tuner, let me know... I'll look into it once I get my Accessport if they make a tune for the 03's.

Found it, www.torquedperformance.com. They're supposed to have fantastic service and support, and they can tweak the tune to fit your specific parts.

Here's a thread on the Nasty Sock where lots of people offer their opinions and experiences on several different maps and the majority prefer the TP map.

I also found this on the Tube, it's a Scion version but seems to sound the same.

This is the Subaru version.

Hmmm... Looks like I'm pretty much hosed with the 03, can't get any TP maps or the Perrin maps... I'm stuck with the Cobb OTS stuff.

Ouch. The Cobb OTS stuff isn't bad so it should still be a nice upgrade and help smooth out the jerkiness in the turbo. 👍

Anybody gonna be up for some preseason racing tonight? I'm thinking a 15-20 lapper at IMS Road Course, start qualifying around 8pm EDT. :)

I'll be in the lounge by 7:30 (1.5 hours from now), possibly a little sooner, but you don't need to wait on me if anybody wants to open the lounge earlier.

Some mighty fine racing tonight boys. I hoped to find a car that everyone would be able to drive hard and clean, I think we really found it. I saw lots of side by side, clean, smart driving out there. Paired with this great group of drivers that seem to get better and better every race, I think we're gonna have a helluva season. 👍

Looks like registration is full so I've closed it down. We have one or two extra people for both nights and they will likely serve as reserves. Each race night myself or Owens will make a post 10 minutes before qualifying starts to notify drivers if there is a slot open.

I'm not sure how I'm going to handle any conflicts, hoping we won't have any but the general rule will probably be first come first serve, meaning those in the lounge first get the right to race (hopefully this will encourage prompt attendance). If a regular driver who is running for points doesn't have an available slot to participate I will ask for a volunteer from the room to make room for them (this worked surprisingly well last season).

Those races last night really have me looking forward to the season opener. Had fun chasing Dsg and a solid battle with Owens in the first race.

Race 2 was a battle from the start to finish

Yeah, good race yesterday. You guys were just one bumpdrafting straight away from catching me. Sad I had to miss the second race.

Brandon, I'd keep reserve sign-ups open just in case.

We did 8 laps and Nurb GP/D after you left and Carr, Owens and myself were literally bumper-to-bumper-to-bumper for the entire race. Other than one unintentional bump I gave Carr into T1 there was little to no contact, even when we were going 2-3 wide through turns and chicanes. A lot has to do with the drivers of course, but this Silvia really facilitates good, close racing.

We've got 15 on Tuesday and 16 for Friday, ideally I'd only like to have 13-14 max racing each night (to minimize lag problems) so we have a few reserve drivers already. I'm expecting at least one or two more people to chime in and ask if they can still join and I'll probably let them in as reserves. We'll see how attendance is for the first week of racing and if I think I need to get some more reserves onboard I'll open things up again. If we get 10-12 drivers regularly I'll be quite happy and I think that's a good possibility. 👍 What I don't want is 17-18 people wanting to race each night and we have to scramble at the last minute to get volunteers to make room for other drivers, so hopefully this will be avoided by closing registration now.

This car's is similar to the Alfa in the way it is "easy" to drive but not so easy that it takes the fun out. At the limit of grip, it feels very predictable (Not like the "I'M GOING TO DIE" Yellowbrid, AC Cobra, or something).

Now, after last night, I really liked the rolling start, even though I out braked turn 1 by 20ft
It would help us out if the oder after qualifying gets messed up. We could sort it out on track very quickly.

To be honest, I did not like the rolling start. It was messy, just short of a big mess.
I'd prefer it to be single file and at a slower starting speed. Otherwise earning the pole loses any meaning, other than the point.

I tend to agree. While I enjoy the concept it was incredibly messy for the first 3/4 of the lap and at least a couple of us got out of order. We managed to clean it up for the final approach but I wasn't positive that we were all in the correct order and didn't have any way to verify it while I was driving.

It's just another one of those things that is good in theory but the potential for problems, confusion and delays will make me shy away from it. Not saying it can't work, but my main objectives are to keep things simple and on schedule so I tend to stay away from things that could interfere with those objectives.

Also, I did confirm that our initial starting order (before the pace lap) was correct so I feel confident that our qualifying method will continue to work properly. 👍

I think after we do it a couple times, it'll be fine. Maybe lay down a couple basic rules for the starts.

I thought the rolling start was a bit of a cluster F. Im sure the drivers will not have a problem pulling it off sucsessfully but we've been using the standing start for a while now and everything has been working fine.

Like I said, it can be done but there's too much potential for problems and time delays for my liking. We have guys here with wives, kids, or jobs that require them to get up early (myself included) and that's why one of my main objectives is always staying on schedule. I also believe one of the keys to our success is my devotion to timeliness and consistency. I think that's one of the biggest things that keeps people coming back so I shy away from things that could potentially interfere. I'm not saying problems would be guaranteed, but for me it's not worth the risk.

We'll stick with the traditional standing starts for this season and re-evaluate the rolling start for the next season. I'm already doing a few things differently this season so I don't want to stray too much further from our previous formula. I want to make sure things continue to run consistently and smoothly before I do anymore tinkering.

Im thinking about getting a wheel, can you guys offer some suggestions? Id like to spend as little as possible as long as the wheel isnt crap.

Best bang for buck DFGT

Good wheel that includes a shifter. G27

Fanatec has good offerings.

T500 is one you won't regret either.

I'd say G27 myself. Great wheel and the shifter is a blast.

Both. With models that were around for a while you never know whether you're buying a wheel with months of playtime on it. The bigger issue with DFGT/g25/g27 is pedal longevity, and you can't buy those separately. If you got decent soldering skills used g27/g25 might be a decent buy.

Dont buy any wheel used or dont buy a g27 used? Im an ebay freak

I don't think I'd be brave enough to buy any wheel used unless I knew who I was buying it from... There are enough youtube videos out there of "kids" abusing controllers, wheels and keyboards to scare me off...

I'd recommend the DFGT. It's a fantastic wheel with 900 degrees rotation and for all intents and purposes is just as good as the G27. I've had both, I love my G27 but for 2-3x the price it's hard to justify unless you're a real freak about wheels like some of us. The clutch and shifter are awesome but they hurt your competitiveness and I very rarely use them.

I'd bet you can find a new DFGT on Amazon for $100-150 and I can promise you'll never regret it. The wheel feels great in your hands (I prefer the DFGT rubber grip to the G27 leather grip), the force feedback is great and the sequential shifter is something I sorely miss. If you're wanting the best quality for the least money, DFGT all the way. 👍
