ORS | SEASON 11 | STEWARDS REPORT | ROUND 1
Cactass's lap of 1.34.122 on L34 is legal and stands as the fastest lap of the race - nice lap Cac 👍
You’ll notice that in Oni’s pre-race briefing that we now have a list of penalties and the points that will be applied to drivers for commonly occurring infringements of ORS rules. This list is available in the front page OP of this thread or
here.
So why have we done this?
Based on close examination of the rules by the ORS Committee, it was felt for this Season 11 and for all that follow - it was important to standardise some of the point penalties when non adherence to the rules is observed. This will ensure that all drivers are aware of exactly what penalty they will incur. Think of these as standard common laws and, if broken, standard fines will apply – just as you might expect to get from a speeding fine.
As this is a new addition to ORS Season 11 and was not in place prior to Round One, we feel it only fair to grant some concession when applying these penalties for infringements observed in post-race stewards analysis.
Concessions for Round One will be by deduction of 50% of total penalties incurred.
The following drivers will receive the following points deductions:
Vendalism
15.2.2. Changing of tyre compound during the closed pit window rule either at the start or finish of the race: Minus 10 points per lap
Total point penalty incurred for Round One, less 50% concession:
= MINUS 5 Points.
DRZ_Hatfield
15.2.2. Changing of tyre compound during the closed pit window rule either at the start or finish of the race: Minus 10 points per lap (x1)
15.1.3. Deliberate and excessive cutting of the race track proper for the purpose of time advantage: Minus 10 points per infringement (x1)
15.1.1. Using the Comms chat for commentary during race: Minus 5 points per chat post infringement (x2)
15.2.3. Use of more than the allotted sets of tires for any given compound: Minus 10 points per lap (x 3)
Total point penalty incurred for Round One, less 50% concession:
= MINUS 30 points.
Request for Racing Incident Investigation for Round 1
One incident was reported for Round 1 concerning DRZ-Hatfield and Onichan.
Examination of events.
Onichan was commencing his final lap in P4 and approximately 1.9 seconds behind Cactass and closing for a theoretical challenge of position. Meanwhile DRZ-Hatfield was one lap down in P12 on 4 lap old medium (illegal) tires is quickly closing on Onichan in the braking approach to T1. I also note that Jol was on a lap down on L49 and P11 moves over on the main straight to allow Cactass and Oni through but also loses position as a result of a pursuing DRZ-Hatfield.
Hatfield moves out of Oni’s draft and attempts an overtake under brakes to inside of Oni for the turn-in to T1. Oni not expecting this from a driver a lap down takes his normal racing line into T1. Minor contact is made between Hatfield and Oni which in turn causes Oni to run wide into sand trap on the outside of T1. Oni recovers but now has significantly reduced tire grip and is unable to maintain normal race pace. As a result he is unable to negotiate T2 even at reduced speed and slides off onto the grass. Oni recovers a second time and manages to continue and maintain his P4 position despite rapidly closing P5 of JTV. Opportunity for Oni to challenge Cactass is lost as result. At the finish Cactass is now approximately 6 seconds in front of Oni.
Conclusions.
DRZ-Hatfield is issued with a caution for interfering with a car on the lead lap, creating unnecessary risk and potentially altering the outcome of finishing positions.
Put simply, it is incumbent on ALL DRIVERS in this series to use their better judgment to ensure that situations like this do not arise again. This was particularly acute in this instance given there was no foreseeable gain to performing this overtaking maneuver in the closing stages of the race. Moreover because the driver is on an illegal set of tires, this further diminishes any justification for the above mentioned maneuver and putting a fellow drivers finishing position at heightened risk.
Finally, I remind all drivers that if you do make a mistake and affect the potential outcome of the race it is expected that you will take the gentlemanly approach and apologize for any situations which may have occurred after the race has concluded. 👍 This ensures that we are all upholding the spirit of good sportsmanship and respect for fellow competitors that ORS is founded upon.
