I've got a picture frame in my house which is actually an LCD screen - you just insert a compact flash card into the back of it and the frame will give you some options of displaying individual pictures, or a constant slideshow. Yes that's quite a cool representation for sure. I think he (the author at Digital Blasphemy) uses 3D programs like Lightwave, 3D-Max as well as others, only using Photoshop and other 2D programs for touch up details...
It would be cool if they made an inexpensive canvas that you could upload your image to, and hang it on the wall in high-res. When you got tired of it, you could simply delete it, and upload a new picture.
