So after some TT's and Races, and some qualifiers, I fast tracked to D Class 3.39 in Road. Now I am trying to decide where to go now.

Before I spend some money on more cars/tracks, I wanted to ease into it. The Jetta/MX5 multi looks like fun, but buying the tracks I dont have with the Jetta comes out to $129. Before I do that would it be better to do some Skippy races since I already purchased that car? I am eager to get out of the MX5 lol.

Lastly...Ovals. My god why can I not get going here? I finally got Lanier down to where I am comfortable but not very fast with the Legends. I just cant seem to put a consistant decent speed down on ovals. But after soem practice, TT's, I finally joined a race. Lost 8 SR due to being hit from behind mulitple times. I was in the pits so much that I completed 22 out of 40 laps...and came in 9th out of 11.

Any tips for getting around Rookie legends?

Do not buy he Jetta! Get Spa and do 4 races or TTs on the Grand Touring series, that way you'll fast track it all the way to C or at least will have the requirements for promotion next week!

For the Legends, just start from the pits and you're good!

I been looking forward to the Jetta :/.

Yeah, I always hear start from the pits, but I guess its my competative nature to wantto win and not just make a clean race lol.

Ill do more TT;s.

Trust me you can win it from the pits! The Legends races always end in dissaster!

I would say go for the Skippy. Those races are the most fun I have had. There's always alot of people in them, so you get matched with people close to your irating, and they happen often enough to not have to wait long for the next one. I just really like driving it too. It fits my style pretty well. You need to really be on the throttle all the time with the skippy. Let off to much in turns and your spinning. If you go skippy though make sure and get a few setups from someone on the iracing forum. A good setup on it will really settle the rear end down on it, and make it much easier to drive.

Ill look for some setups, because stock, its very twitchy. Thanks for the advice guys.

I would've suggested the Skippy, but week 13 is next week so promotions are very close. It all depends on what you want to race, the smart thing to do is to rack up as much SR as you can so you can fast track it all the way to the license you need. The Skippy is a nice fun car to drive but for many is an SR death trap, being so close to week 13 I wouldn't go that route...

Seems about 90 bucks. Hmmm.

ouch. So can I ask, its like $49 right now to sign up for the MX5 series. Once you complete that, its $90 for the whole skippy series? How long does it take to get form MX5 to Skippy and also how many credits can you win there? I heard the more you race the extra credits you get.

Ok, don't look at it as a cost for each series because every series uses the same tracks at some point. You only buy the content once and use it whenever you need it for wichever series you want to run.

Yes I understand. I am not trying to pay out the game for the costs. I am just interested thats all.

The Jetta is a horrible car... the most boring in iRacing

I have nothing against FWD... and the handling is actually not bad, but the car has the worst (most boring) transmission in the game - you don't need to use the clutch at all and it is literally the only car in the game I can drive with one foot and paddle shifting...and the car feels sluggish, its actually faster than the mx5 but the perception feels slower. If you prefer automatics and not having to do much you might like it.

iRacing really needs a different FWD car ....

go with the skip or mustang

The Jetta is unique. It's unlike any other car in iRacing. It does feel a lot like taking a street car onto a track, it's a real skill to get some good speed out of it.

I agree that the Skippy or the Mustang are more fun to drive though. I'm developing a big soft spot for the Mustang, it's now my go to car for spending an hour learning a new track. Highly recommended. 👍

I have always been a VW guy thats why I was interested :). Then again, I am a Mustang guy as well.

I finally got to 3.40 Rookie in oval last night. I started from the back (well 8th place out of 11). Drove a clean race except for the guy behind me ramming me at the first lap dropping me to last.

And yep...attrition and a one pass put me in 4th. Thanks for the advice.

So now I will look at more options, like the Mustang series. The Skippy is ok, but not a huge fan of open wheels really.

I wish you could test drive cars before buying them.

edit- Vaxx, make sure in rookie ovals you yield the inside to the faster, wreckless noobs. they shouldn't be nailing ya in the back. It is imperative you avoid contact at all costs even if it means yelling in the voice comms at the driver approaching to take the inside. Before race begins try broadcasting (type it & maybe voice it) that faster guys take the inside and slower guys should hug the outside. Ive seen some vets say this which helped me so much when i was a noob right before the race.

Hm, that sounds kind of good. I dont like using a clutch which is part of reason I enjoy the HPD & indycar. So for real you don't need a clutch to drive the car eh? Interesting, very interesting.... Not sure if I'll buy it tho

You can drive the Skip with shift aids off and no clutch. Up shift on the rev limiter (use clutch if for some reason you want to short shift the powerhouse ) and a good bit of throttle braking seems to allow nice clutchless down shifts, not exactly realistic but pretty fast when you get used to it.

I bought the Mustang, and did some practice runs on Spa. I like it so far, but needs a bit of tuning.

Now week 13 is freaking me out. LOL. The Legends cars on some raod courses look fun though. Again, getting out of rookie looks like I need tons of time to test and tune.

Or, do the smart thing and hone your skills without spending another penny by using all of the free base content that you already own by racing the Pontiac Solstice, the MX-5 Roadster, or the Spec Racer Ford for at least one season in the Advanced Rookie inRacingNews Challenge series. It IS where all the cool kids hang out, BTW.

I like the Jetta and I have started racing it this season. It is fun in the multi-class series (jetta, mx5, solstice) and makes for interesting competition.

If you have the money go for it.
