Until last night and the Weekly Brawl I had just been playing against AI to try and get a feel for the characters. For the Weekly Brawl, I mostly played Lucio. I really enjoyed playing as Lucio and could definitely see myself playing him more.

Against AI, I have enjoyed Soldier 76 because he is very well rounded. I have also enjoyed Bastion, but mostly because Bastion can mow down some AI. I have played Mercy some and could see myself playing Mercy more also.

Outside of Lucio, Soldier 76, Mercy, and Bastion, I have not spent enough time with the other characters to have much of an opinion.

I think they've done a great job with the matchmaking, I'm almost rank 69 on competitive just solo queuing. Most games it's hard to do well solo queuing because your teammates usually do stupid things.

Anyway... Damn, Zenyatta seems great now! Feels quite fluid to play and I'm rather surprised by his offensive capabilities.

Yeah, he's a capable hybrid. He's kind of a glass cannon, though.

Kinda. I think his ability to regenerate health and his Q granting immunity make up for it, though.

A bigger downside, I feel, is how quickly everyone else will switch away from other support characters - and he's really not as powerful a healer as, say, Lucio or Mercy.

Lucio and Ana are IMO the best support characters. Mercy is also a good supporter, but she's too focused into healing and ally support IMO: Lucio can support himself as well during battle, while Ana can disrupt enemy healers.

IMO, Lucio and Zen are the best supports. Even though Zen doesn't heal as much as the majority of the supports, his ult can easily change the flow of a game and his Orb of Discord is stupidly powerful.


I guess that's why they're the meta in competitive matches.

That's not unique to Zenyatta, though. Both Ana and Lucio can heal themselves with their own abilities, and Mercy has straight up passive health regen. Zenyatta only gets passive regen on his shields rather than his health - if he escapes a fight with 10 HP, he's only going to have a max of 160HP until he finds a health pack.
