Hello, I'm thinking about building a computer for 3D modelling. What would be some good parts?

$1500 max, I'd prefer to run most new 3D Modelling Programs.

3770K (3970X if you've won the lottery, AMD X6 1100Ts work well also), lots of RAM (16GB+), current high-end graphics card to make use of CUDA/OpenCL (GTX670 or higher, Radeon 7900-series). Done.

If it's a dedicated workstation for 3D modelling (CATIA/NX/AutoCAD), you might want to try NVIDIA's Quadro graphics cards. They're optimized for use in design applications, but I guess if you're not selling your designs, it might not be worth the extra premium to get a Quadro card.

Hi, I came up with this, sorry I couldn't include storage HDDs because it would go over $1500. You can get one later on if you really don't want to go over your current budget.

I will probably get some flaming for this but I have quickly thrown together something with a FX-8350 which from what I have read gets very close or matches the I7 in a number of highly threaded applications such as rendering and is much cheaper. I have stuck with the quadro 4000 djinline suggested as I don't know much about workstation graphics but I wouldn't be suprised if a 6gb 7970 ghz matched it or was better.

That looks alright, but could you tell me why did you choose that power supply? The one I chose [link] is modular and has 80+ Gold efficiency, being only $5 more expensive.

You wouldn't really need a quadro GPU for the system. There are people out there that use gaming GPU's with quadro drivers that are doing pretty much the same thing. However the choice is ultimately up to you.

Also depends on the rendering work you will be doing???

Ok, so here we go again. I included a 3TB HDD, changed the motherboard to a bit better one, i7-3770 now with the K and a 2GB MSI Twin Frozr GTX 680. If you want a DVD burner, get this one, I forgot to include it. Feel free to criticize. 👍

Oh damn, I forgot the CPU cooler too, what should I "cut" from this to get it included? GTX 680 with only 2GB?

Whew..
