[PC] DCS 1.5 & 2.0 Open Alpha

Been trying a few missions in the Flanker. Boy do I suck. I've spent most of my time just flying never really fighting and it's hard!
Even just takeoff and landing is pretty fun to practice. The Russian fighters have a high workload partly because they require so much trim, you can fiddle with autopilot as a workaround, but once trimming comes naturally, the plane should be easier to fly.

The FCS also seems a bit weird on the Flanker as it doesn't control aerodynamic coupling very well. The jiggling after a roll was a bit unsettling for me at first, but when I remember to take into account it's not bad.

Next weekend or the following weekend I might be up for some online flying. We could set up a mission for training or just fooling around, or use some of the existing free fly/training servers.

Yeah sounds good. I don't have too much trouble manouvering (most of the time) it's more like combat strategy and systems I struggle with. But you really do need to trim a lot. Especially at the start of missions where you're already flying. It can be quite tricky.

Yes, DCS doesn't really give many hints on combat strategy. The Flanker is kind of in an odd place too. It's a heavy air superiority fighter, but it's outclassed in terms of technology by other modern fighters. The F-15 has a better radar and the MiG-29 that would be inferior gets active missiles.

The Flanker is deadliest at relatively short ranges, but getting there can be tricky. On the other hand, it does technically have the longest range missiles out of the playable fighters.

Actually impressive footage guys:

Also good to know:

"Please note that the DCS World 2 version uses most of the same art (buildings, textures, and elevation mesh) as in DCS World (1). As such, you should not expect a drastic difference. However, this video does show the impact of improved lighting, shadows, effects and atmosphere. Also please note the ground explosion and cloud effects are the same as in DCS World (1). These will be improved at a later time after the release of the DCS World 2 open alpha.

Later maps (NTTR and Strait of Hormuz) will show a much more drastic improvement due to the higher quality objects, textures, and elevation mesh."

I like :) :) :) Can't wait to do some tank hunting. Is it as easy as it looks in the Su-25? Like auto-lock on just about everything?

Pretty much. Finding the targets is the only hard part.

Edit: it just occurred to me that windows 10 is coming out in about a week. How nice would it be if Dcs 2 is released, just in time for the new os? (keep dreaming :))

Looks fun though. A bit more work to get that done in the cockpit of the A-10. Speaking of.. I'm doing a targeting practice session later today (12 hours from now), the name of the server will be something with Gathering of Tweakers or GoT and the password will be GoT. Feel free to join and download these if you want to see the targets :)

Not sure if I want Windows 10, because of that.. Everything works now, why change :P (I'm still on 7)

Possible FPS boost. That's my reason.

Maybe when you have good experience I'll do it. I could upgrade for free some time ago, no idea if it is still available.
I'm wiping Windows 7 and installing fresh. (By installing Windows 7 the day of release and upgrading to 10). You should be able to to "reserve" it still. I'll let you know how it goes with DCS.

i hope we get to see vapor when reaching the speed of sound. Also, notice in the last video the smoke enters the cabin? I really hope they fix this.
