[PC] DCS 1.5 & 2.0 Open Alpha

I'll try that out soon... Still stuck with tutorials on bombing...

As far as a first module purchase, what should I get. I like the F15, and also The A10c, but more towards the F15.

Any preference from you guys?

What you have to know is that the A-10C is fully modeled. Clickable everything, where the F-15 is not. If you don't mind to study a little bit then the A-10C shouldn't be a problem. I highly recommend having a hotas though since you're pushing a lot of buttons while operating the weapons.

I started with 'Flaming Cliffs 3'. The F-15 is in it with some other cool planes. Their flight model is pretty advanced but if I'm not mistaken there will be updates soon, making them on the same level als the A-10C (clickable cockpit etc). I think the F-15 is a lot of fun, I have most flight hours in that one. You can do aerial refuels too.

I'll probably do the same from what I've been reading...

Now I just need to uninstall the steam edition and then install the torrent one..

There are sales pretty regularly so maybe now buy FC3 for the full price and get the rest cheap in a sale. That's what I did. :P Got A-10C, Blackshark 2, Huey, Mi-8, F-86, combined arms, Mig-21 and Bf-109 all with 70% discount.

Yeah, I've never been a good heli pilot in FS9 so I think I'll just stay as far as I can from getting any sorta heli. The TU-25 really is fun, but I'd like an F15 more because I use to have the IRIS F15 for FS9.

edit:
Also just finished download so running .exe now

Okay, so now how do I paste a serial number into the game? (I'm not using the steam version anymore, directly from ED)

edit:
Well this is weird... I can't even log in, even after changing my password..

Edit 2:
I get this error:"Incorrect check word for login"I also just tried to log into the forums, and it says my email is not recognized. I then proceeded to the "administrator" and it doesn't even take me anywhere but to a blank screen...

EDIT 3:
So I tried to create a support ticket, and I needed to log in to do that. What do you know, it worked...

So everything works now. I guess it was just "it's gonna take time" sorta thing...

So after a test flight in the F15 after figuring out on a basic level how to create my own mission (just a free flight test), I really like it. I thought frames would drop but they stayed the same..

Now I have to wait another hour for the training vids/missions to download...

Just FYI, the physics in DCS are much better than standard FS. I played a bit of FSX and there is no comparison when it comes to edge of envelope flight.

The Ka-50 is actually fairly easy to fly because of the coaxial rotors and auto pilot modes, so if you ever get tempted to go to a helicopter, that could be a good choice. The UH-1 and Mi-8 are more difficult.

Wow.. I can't stand watching the tutorials. They do me no good unless I'm actively doing it while instructed to.

Can't wait though to give multiplayer a shot. If there's an add friend option, the username is Swagger897 and eventually we can fly together... Right now I'm better at air to ground than a2a... But I need more practice/help learning all the commands. Not sure if I still want a HOTAS joystick though, because I'd like to go to a yoke for my FS stuff... I dunno, we'll see.

I'll also need to look at what 2.0 brings.

If you're flying the 25t look at the tutorials i posted.

If you're interested, check out the Virtual Aerobatics server. It's online 24/7 but restarts frequently so it's not weird you get a disconnect. Refresh server list a couple of times and it should show again. It has good ping and it should show up in the top of the list. Search for a couple of F(ighter)'s on the map (F10). If they're close together high chance that is a formation flight. Don't hesitate to join that group, that really helped me getting mad skillz. Otherwise some people are always flying around Sochi (where you spawn). Watch out with take off for others on the other side of the runway, happened me some times. Surprise :P Or search for K, that's a tanker. I thought they were named Shell and Texaco. When nearby, use the \ key to pop up a window on the top right, use one of the F keys to make your choice. I thought tanker was F6, then select pre contact. If you watch the tanker you should see the contact lights go on and the boom come out. Then right ctrl + R (not 100% sure) to open your fuel cap. You might want to check how the autopilot works, specially altitude. Makes it easier. Expect tanker going around 200 knots.

Attaching payload should be done with engines off obviously, then hit \. Then F8 for ground crew and then F1. Right click on an empty square. In the virtual aerobatics server only smoke pods are available.

Thanks. I did try out one of the servers last night and when I got into it it was at night (the game time). Pity me, the keyboard map that I downloaded (same as in the OP but for F15) didn't tell me where the "electric on" key was, so I had to go to single player to find out. By that time I just wanted to fly around a little but was too tired, so off to bed I went.

Seems like it's going to be fun. Now I might have to get Track IR or something...:D

Get VR. It's what I'm waiting for.

eh..... I can't stare at stuff too close to my eyes... They begin to water. Plus I'll look like an idiot out of my front window just looking around.

edit:
I'd also like to know where to turn off exhaust smoke. Whenever I look backwards the frames drop terribly...

None of this is real!!!

Can't answer your question sorry.

Boy... the A10 really is a learning curve. I'll try another mission later tonight and then go online.

@Carlos You wouldn't happen to know the IP for that Aerobatics server would you? There are a few named "aerobatics server", but not sure which one it actually is.

Did you buy the A-10C too or are you flying the A?

No I don't but this is their website. The server name should just be Virtual Aerobatics server..

For a proper challenge hit LCtrl+E+E+E.

:D

loljk pls don't
I've already had to quite a few times.... I'm surprised you can walk around...

Edit:
Finally got around to doing an online mission within three miles of an enemy (probably closer) and saw an Aim-9 crash into me.. Had a few issues online though in the A10a, where if I turned on all of my electrics, I'd lose nosewheel steering and then I couldn't use flaps. So after asking a few guys in the room what the heck, the said check the key bindings. I went through about all of them, wrote down some stuff on a notepade, and then did the A10a close air support mission.

Now I've tried that mission quite a few times already and have been horrible. So I watched a few of the training vids again that I need to pay attention to, wrote down the steps I need to take, and then did the mission again. Didn't do too well, but I blew some stuff up and that makes me happy.

The only problem is that it's really hard to see ground units when the label is right over it, so any CCIP/RP bombs are just too difficult to target, even when zoomed in all the way..

That's where the A-10C takes it advantage. I use the targeting pot to search something to destroy, mark a point and then I see that point in the hud so you'd see exactly where you should drop the bomb.

Left ctrl+f10 or left shift+f10 enables/disables the labels.

Are you going to fly today? I have the day off so.. :)

Sorry for late answer, but yeah I'm on... Just need to know what room to enter.

Yeah, that was fun. Whenever we got close though I was lagging bad or it was the server... And when we were going south down the beach I kept stalling...

Yeah you were all over the place on our screens sometimes. The server was hosted by Mark and he's running it at home so that's probably why you had lag. For formation we could go in some other more stable server.
