I was just wondering what people use for their PC speakers. Personally I use a Sony Mini Hi-Fi Component System which is great for gaming, but terrible for just about everything else. (Too much bass, not enough midrange, very poor highs) :(

Altec Lansing 340 packaged with my Dell. Pretty nice, but seem underpowered ... might just be me (: Loud Music (:

Is that the Dolby Digital kit? If so, it's what I've got too. If not, I've got the Altec Lansing Dolby Digital kit. Which rocks.

A mate of mine had been 'experiencing' the Sony/Bose cinema kit in our living room, and then went upstairs to watch a movie file I had (it was the WRC video that was here). He listened for a couple of minutes before saying "Have you got a sub in here?". I said yes, and he walked out shaking his head and making exclamations about being mad. :D

I am personally using Event's PS8 Biamped Studio Reference Monitors with a Tannoy 10" powered sub.

These monitors are flat!

Anyone using the Klipsch personal 5.1 monitorying system? I just picked up some Klipsch RS3's for my surrounds and was wondering how the personal series held up....

Eh, they're OK. It plays excruciatingly loud, anyway. :)

You acually punted for the RS3s? Those things ain't cheap!

OMG, shall I say that they're increadable....! Worth every penny... I just need to (slowly) phase out the rest of my speakers with the rest of the reference series Center Speaker and Mains...

Nifty! Were you using what were you using for surrounds before? What do you have for mains? (Hint: RF-3 IIs and an RC-3 II will work nicely when replacement time comes :) ).

I always thought a point-source speaker would be better for imaging in the rear. What's the rest of your electronics stack like, anyway?

Oh man... No hint necessary... The RF-3 II's and the RC-3 II is exactly what I had in mind... With the RC-3 II being the next purchase (when the time comes...)

I was actually using some flush mount (full cabinets in the ceiling) of Rockford Fosgate 8 ohm 8", 51/4", and soft dome Tweets for each surround... Very nice sound, bad imaging... (left over car audio parts... hehe)

 this has quickly gone from a PC Speaker thread to a Home Theatre thread, but that's cool... Here's the line up...

...Surrounds - Klipsch RS3
...Center - Reconton (two 4" and a tweet, needs replaced bad)
...Mains - JVC FX-S7TH
...Subs - 2 - 12" Rockford Fosgate Pro-series...
...Receiver - B&K(just kidding...:D) JVC 1024-RV includes 130w per 5 channels, + 3 digital inputs..(two optical, one coax)
...Samsung DVD-P701 DVD player
...JVC 32" TV

Plans for upgrades include:
...New receiver with 5.1, DTS, THX Ultra2, Dolbly ProLogic II, and a ca-gillion digital, component, and s-vid inputs to keep all my toys happy...(currently looking in the B&K and the Integra line of Receivers)
...New Mains and a new center (you know which ones already)
...A Dedicated amp for the Rockford 12" subs, which are currently sharing the main's channels...(Currently looking into the Crown series amps that are THX Cert.)

Well, there it is in a nut shell...

Consider an H/K AVR 520. Those things are monsters, especially for the price. They also compliment Klipsches very well.

Always willing to hear suggestions...

From what little I read, the AVR 520 doesn't support THX..

Still reading though... ;)

It doesn't...but trust me THX is one of the most overrated things out there today. I mean, the ProMedia 5.1s are THX certified. To me, that means anyone with enough cash can buy certification. :thumbsdow

Don't get caught up in that 6 and 7 channel BS either...I don't see how it will take off.....

I haven't actually heard the THX "Ultra2" decoding yet, but it's suppose to be a spectacual enhancement to MUSIC where the rest of the decoding leaves, shall we say, the music....left in the dust. The Ultra 2 promises a even distributions to all speakers using a logrithm that enhances the music of a standard music audio source... Have you "heard" anything on the Ultra 2 spec.?

For a nice price of $629.99...... It looks like a nice way to go.. ;)

Nope, Ultra 2 is news to me. The 520 has Logic 7 tho, and that works pretty well. Most two channel music really hates being processed, at least what I've heard.

Logic 7 was devised by Lexicon...one of the higher-end processor companies out there.

and hey, Pako! Spank that plank, buddy! "Don't **** it up!" :P :D

:reallyodd

Spank that Plank is mine...I'm surprised that you as a musician are not familiar with the phrase.

The other quote...just something I heard in the audience before you started. :) I'm such an impressionable youth!

My speakers are olympic technology speakers. They're blown so I need new ones. I can't listen to MP3s or the sounds of explosions and warfare in Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun Firestorm. :(

Before my speakers blew, my sound card was stuffed so I had to buy a new one. I bought a $80 sound card that allows surround sound and you can even plug your stereo up to it. Haven't got any more speakers for surround sound and the stereo is a mile away, but just image the sound it'd pump out. 😈

Cambridge 4 Point Surround. i got it new for $83 a while back. It's got great high's and mid - low bass. the mids themselves are a bit weak, but i can hear things on these lil speakers+sub that i can't hear on my Sanya/RCA/Emmerson/Teac stereo speakers. and those have dedicated sub, mid, and tweeter. im thinking about hookin them up in tandem with my pc speakers since i'm not using the live drive for anything else but PS2 hookup :)

I have a 5 disc sony cd player that i use:) but it doesnt get used often, all my music that i have on cd has been ripped on to my hdd.

Ah, of course. :) I might like to do that except for the potential reduction in sound quality. That, and I don't think my CD collection would fit on my HDD (MP3 or not). :nervous:
