PC2 on PS5

I remember downloading Project CARS 2 on my PS5 shortly after getting it since I didn't have a racing game to play and GT7 wasn't out yet.

And... yeah it looked pretty arse. Sad to see that's still the case.

The graphics are definitely bugged on PS5, and I guess that's just a consequence of emulation and backwards compatibility, not every game is guaranteed to work properly on the PS5 and I suppose PC2 is one of them.

I think it looks (and runs) great on my PS5 and now the Pro, especially for a 7 year old game.

On my Series X I think it’s fantastic. Graphically, it lacks the shiny polish of something like Forza or GT7 but I don’t mind that, what it lacks (in 2024 terms) in shiny, reflective ray-traced photorealism it gains in sheer detail. The occasional rough textures and frame hitches you got on the old gen are gone and it’s just the controller experience that slightly lets it down. It’s probably still one of my favourite racing games ever. It’s the closest thing I’ve ever found to a proper sandbox experience for people who want to convincingly recreate real world racing series’. On console, anyway. Doing LMP-LMP2-GTE multiclass WEC races with full day-night cycle, fuel/tyre strategies, qualifying, etc, then you can jump straight into a fully licenced Indycar field. Still love it.

Preach brother, preach!

I was bored of GT7 because, regardless of how visually stunning it is, the racing (single player, not online) is stale.

I bought the PSVR2 and it made the game so much better, incredible even.

Yet, despite the fact that I only want to race in VR the rest of my days, I still came back to PC2, flat screen and all.

It's deep and no console racer offers the customization options.

Multi class races are spectacular

"Yes! This is exactly why I'm still playing PC2 on my PS5. If I want a decent single-player career with a bit of progression, and a quick way to create a WEC-style endurance multi-class 24-hour race in 1-hour-long races with over 30 AI driver opponents, it's the only game on console with such a selection of tracks, cars, and opponents. Assetto Corsa Competizione is fantastic, but it lacks LMP1/2, GTE, Daytona, Le Mans, etc."
 
One thing I miss about PC2 is the AI, single player races. They were RACES, not catch this one, pass, catch this one, pass…. repeat. There were times it was two or three white through corners. I can’t believe how Sony/PD brags up SOPHY when it’s really not that good of AI at all. GT7 is easier to drive but one thing I’ve noticed is you need to be more accurate.

As for multiplayer. When I went back to PC2 I slid into a corner a little too much and figured my race was over. But it wasn’t, you don’t lose so much ground, maybe every one else is making mistakes too. The mess ups are more forgiving or something.

I do miss the classes, more cars were chosen to be grouped together. You can do it on GT7 but you have to pick and choose and spend time tuning. The game I miss most is GT Legends, and Project Cars was and has been the closest thing to that. I really really hope Project Motor Racing brings the elements of GT Legends and Project Cars back. They’re kind of talking about GTR2 a lot, which is ok, but that game was not as good as GT Legends in my books.

I know I’ll be happy when Project Motor Racing comes out and perhaps AC2, but the ONE thing I hope they both bring to the table is a livery editor such as GT7. When you paint a car like we can in GT7, it makes it feel like it’s your car. I don’t care for tuning, since they always have cars that match up and you can do setups but there was nothing worse than having a race and everybody is in the essentially the same livery lol
 
Had some fun with pc2 in the past, but for me it got boring quite quickly, not being able to upgrade my road cars like you can in gt7 puts me off a bit,

Also prefer a game with more in depth progression, gt7 is one of the very few racing games i play lately.

I have to agree with some of that. Although in my opinion the grind in GT7 is just too much. If the AI was better and you could make good money like with the big three/four on ANY race I’d be a lot happier.

I only like the tuning portion for cars that feel a bit slow and also to class cars together. Other games you don’t actually need to do that so it’s a trade off. Less tuning and matching more driving, but less customizing.

As for single player, GT7 just doesn’t do it for me and it boils down to the AI, they’re terrible.

As gamers we have so many choices. And, we have so many others on the horizon. Can't wait.

What do you mean by "depth progression"?

The worst part is the ai, its quite terrible even worse for custom races witch is a shame because the custom grids is awesome.

Hoppfully they make some progress for sophy ai soon. We did see some exciting stuff for sophy ai at the nation cup, The grind for Me is not to much of an issue unless you want the 20 million credits cars,

But they could offer more high paying races or endurance races, maybe even more championchips.

I prefer to be able customize my cars, witch cant be done in pc2 sadly, drivning a 1000 hp gtr, or Porsche 911 turbo s is a fun experince in my opinion, dont like my cars stock.

Gt7 despite it flaws i find it way more fun to play than pc2, it just have more of everything.

I always find it interesting what different people look for in titles, as I find GT7 to be dull, as I look first for how good the racing is, and in that regard, GT7 bores me.

I find the AI in PC2 (for its age) still well ahead of GT7's mobile roadblocks, and I love PC2's sandbox approach, where I can pretty much run what I want, on any track, at any time of year/day/weather.

Note to add, my view of PC2 is based on the PC version.
 
This is it, it depends what you’re looking for. I do like GT7 too don’t get me wrong. Since I discovered that you can set up races between cars in your garage, so essentially any car, any livery, any combination of classes, it’s kind of rekindled my interest because I’m wanting a sandbox type thing. So I’m now the proud owner of about 15 Super Formula cars each with official 2023/4 liveries downloaded, every WEC type car in existence in game (using Peugeot 908s and detuning them to make up an lmp2 grid) etc etc, and yet when you actually get into the races they’re a bit underwhelming because there just isn’t the challenge from the actual gameplay. The game seems to want to hand you the win at times especially in longer races with pitstops etc. PC2 offers up such a challenge, the jeopardy of lapping slower cars late in the night when they could always do something quirky and ruin your race, the wheel to wheel battles, tyre and refuelling strategies, mechanical problems during races….

Cant argue against the ai, it was quite good in pc2, gt has always struggled with the ai, and gt7 is no exception,

I just hope sophy ai can make some more progress soon,



The sandbox experince can be great for people just want to drive the cars straight out of the box, gt7 could however allow the cars be driven in stock form in Arcade mode,

I myself prefer starting from bottom and work my way up, But even that progression has not really been good in most recent racing games.


I find ac evo approach very intresting,
Feature both a sandbox mode, and a career mode where people can progress with starting with their first car etc,

Ac evo has a lot to live up for with all things being said, But of kungs delivers they might But pressure on the biggest names on the market like both gt7 and fh5.
 
I enjoy PC2 and I like the fact they do have different liveries but I do like to make my own liveries. I love doing multi class races at LeMans with any kind of weather. I remember one time I did rally cross in the snow at night at Snetterton. That was fun. The fact you can do weather at any track and you can adjust the AI is great. I still play GT7 more but I like the change of pace I get when play PC2

Livery editor is a big aspect of GT7 in my opinion. If we only drove stock colours around, I might not play it as much. We always make a new livery, it makes you want to drive the car again. So it’s a strong part of GT7
 
I totally agree the livery editor in GT7 is probably one of its best thought out features. Aside the fact that the liveries are saved on GT servers and not your local machine it is great

I’m really hoping AC2 and PROJECT MOTOR RACING will have something similar. Even if it’s limited like max 50 to 100 decals. That would be better than nothing.

I think it's unlikely, as both titles' predecessors (not counting PC3) and AMS2, use the more traditional PC car skinning approach. While it's not impossible that they will move away from that, I find it very unlikely.

Sorry I thought this was in gt7. I couldn’t find any settings I was happy with. Let me know if you do. Sorry about that.
That's ok lol. It's definitely a struggle to find settings that feel nice. I've managed to get it feeling OK but some of the FFB (impacts) can be quite violent and their is some odd behaviour here and there. I really don't think this game was built with Direct Drive wheels in mind!!

The reason for that is that Logitech didn't have such a sophisticated wheel while the game was out. It see's the G Pro as a G29 and outputs data accordingly. This worked quite well with the G29 but doesn't really suit the Pro. As you say it can be erratic at times. Even oscillating from side to side when stationary - I think that's the centering that the G29 needed.
As @Scaff says, on PC this could probably be improved.

Reducing the wheel strength and adding a fair bit of dampener can help. Oh and turning the FFB filter to max.

Try these.
Wheel (G Pro)
Strength 8Nm (or less)
FFB filter 15
Dampener 35 to 50

Game - this can be very car dependant
Gain 100
Volume 35
Tone 65
FX 0
I tend to use the informative flavour

To be honest I bought PCars2 because I understood that I'd be able to send UDP telemetry to simhub so i could use my dash screen & bass shakers but I'm having trouble with it lagging massively.

GT7 has been great with telemetry & simhub so it seems this game might be the issue but I'm not sure.

Anyone here use telemetry/simhub on the PS5 successfully?

I have an old G29 lying around which I'm tempted to try. It'll be a hassle to swap it onto the rig just for this game though lol!

If you are not already doing it connect your bass shakers/ amps to a laptop via USB, over WiFi you can get lagging. I use mine on gt7, F1 games with no lag.

Try setting the UDP version to Project Cars not Project Cars 2. I think there was a problem with that version that was never fixed.
Also have a tweak with the frequency setting if still having issues.

I've used the RS Dash app that uses the UPD output in the past without problems.

I had it working! Joined a lobby and it disappeared. Too bad because I had somewhat useable G Pro wheel settings and the pucks filled out the missing info but I couldn’t get it to work again. Somebody did post settings in here which I may have asked for and they worked. But PC2 does this random bump steer thing every so often. The problem is it almost happens in timed intervals.

That bump steer FFB thing you speak of is the annoying part. If it wasn't for that, it would be quite enjoyable. No messing in the FFB slider settings seems to get rid of it.
