GT5 Pick-up Truck Challenge
Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie Hemi Quad Cab '04
Chevrolet Silverado SST Concept '02
Ford SVT F-150 Lighting '03
Chevrolet SSR '03
Toyota Tacoma X-Runner '04

Lets see here
The Dodge is 6 years old, the Chevy SST is 8 yrs old, Ford is 7 yrs old, Chevy SSR is 7 yrs old, the toyota is 6yrs old, and they all look like complete ****, modeled straight from GT4.

Now if PD had their act together it should have been:
Dodge RAM R/T '09

Chevrolet Silverado VHO '09

These arent my favorite farm trucks or work trucks, no turbo charged diesels all though that would be fun. I tried to keep with GT's style and model choice when it came to sporty pick-ups. I'm just so astounded at the man who was in charge of this race and why he wasn't laughed at when he presented the same trucks as 6 years ago..

What do you think should have been put in instead????

They're nothing more than some gimmick to me, especially since there's only a single dedicated race for those.
So who cares...

Presumably people like the OP who like trucks and don't want them as only a gimmick? Or should we all share your opinion and not care?

I would be very sad if premium modelling efforts had gone trucks in a racing game. Thank you PD! :)

I feel that a good amount of the game has been recycled from GT4, including this bit (the only difference is that you can enter the Midget II in this event), which is a rather large let-down, after 5 years.

What I was trying to say was that the focus certainly wasn't put on trucks considering the low amount of cars relatively to the total amount. You can't have it all and model everything perfectly.

Where did I say that my only opinion is the only valid one? How is that any different from the OP who stated:

We all want more cars in the game, but what do you want to do about it? >_>

No sir a gimmick is being given a ****ing premium model Kubelwagen. I know not everyone likes trucks or even cars but c'mon the TRD Tundra Rock Warrior package can do 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. This is a truck ladies not a porsche, if GT5 represents the pinnacle of racing then why have trucks from the beginning of the decade when the racing world has influenced new designs that deserve recognition.

I respectfully disagree with your choice of chevy. I would choose the 2010 Silverado with 403hp and 417ft/p of tourque.

I was answering "So who cares..." which yeah does kinda imply nobody should care, and everyone should agree with you. Had you started your post "in my opinion..." etc etc. then fair enough. I'm not especially into trucks either but different strokes for different folks.

See this is what i was looking for! Understandably not everyone likes trucks or even think they should be in the game. But some of us think they should, and there are so many new and exciting models out there why settle/slack off and just put the same trucks in?

Which makes no sense at all, since even when fully modified the POS Midget doesn't stand a chance against even the unmodified trucks.

So what was the point of including it exactly? :dunce:

for fun, and technically it is a truck, so they would allow it. as bad as the car is i've always liked it for being "cute".

Right... but why allow it in a scripted event that it has zero chance of competing in?

Who knows. PD logic at it's finest. :)

And if they're going to insist on having trucks in the game anyway, why not at least give us a COOL truck like the Holden Maloo?

410hp, handling comparable to a Monaro (GTO in the US)... could be a fun truck!

For me, cars are cars. No matter if they are SUV´s, Trucks, or regular cars. I think PD has neglected Trucks in this game as well as SUV´s. I was excited in GT4 when we got the above mentioned models, and expected a stronger return of these type of vehicles in GT5. Unfortunatley, the trucks in GT5 only seem to be there as a last minute add on(like other standards), to make the game "bigger." For example, a Ram 1500 seems such a random choice, why not a newer version like a Cummins or the SRT/10? There are alot of trucks that would be cool to race or simply drive for fun in the game. Just to name a few:
Dodge Ram SRT/10
Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel
TRD Hylux V6 4.0
Silverado SS (the real version, not a concept)
Ford SVT lightning
Ford F350 Super Duty
Ford F150
Subaru Brat (why not?)
Toyota Tundra
Nissan Titan
Mitsubishi Raider (It was a nice truck while it lasted)
Holden Maloo
any FPV sport utility truck

Or what about SUV´s?
BMW X series
Mercedes Benz ML, G or GL class
Land Rover and Range Rovers (the real ones)
any Chevy Suburbans or Ford Explorers, or even the Excursion!
Ruf has a souped up Cayene, the Dakara
or Lamborghini! The Rambo Lambo LM002

And we could go on... But mainly, imagine if they were more of specific events for these vehicles, either on road or off road! Gran Turismo would be a blast!!

They are standard cars, those trucks simply aren't premium.
The title doesn't make sense, Theres no evidence for you to say PD doesn't know trucks, they just chose not to model them premium (Thus taking the trucks that were in GT4 over to GT5. At the time those were the powerful trims, and thats what PD modelled for GT4. Obviously they would model new 2009 trucks if they were to make premium trucks, but they didn't.

Thats what I think also! The problem is that most people are not real car enthusiasts. They just go for thier Veyron and Enzo, and don´t even dare to look at a 100Hp car, or anything that doesn´t have a midship engine. I always thought that Gran Turismo was all about automotive passion, and I always loved how they include cars ranging from 3 cylinder Kei cars, al the way to 16 cylinder exotics.
Being able to enjoy not only cars, but other type of vehicles like trucks, makes the game more long lasting, and I hope that in future titles, they include a bigger car type selection and also events for specific type of cars.

so your saying the only reason they would choose to model anything newer than 3yrs old is if it was in premium form? I'm not sure if i agree with that at all, I don't care if its premium or not. I would hoever like the new trucks people are mentioning and for them to not look like dog feces, lets face it the Dodge Laramie looks bad, straight up bad.

+1 Unless someone does the craftsmen truck series or something but this is Gran Turismo. :dopey:

Yes. this is GT - its about epic race cars like the kübelwagen, schwimmwagen and samba bus... Ore about unrealistic alien supercar like the "X1"

I could go for a premium '57 Chevy step-side, or maybe a late 60's/early 70's Ford F150. :D

EDIT:

Wait... What year was that Ford that Bob Chandler used for the original Bigfoot? That's always been one of my favorite truck body styles.

I really wish they'd have put in some stuff like the Ford Bronco, Chevy Trailblazer, Jeep Wrangler, some older Landrovers, and...

International Harvester Scouts!!

WOW!! My neighbor has one of these in his garage! Its the six cylinder model. I´ve been wanting to buy it from him, but he is not giving it at all!!

This 'Pick-up Truck Challenge' in GT5 has the ship-in-a-bottle syndrome...

From it you see the GT5 world and its physics, ok... but if you look well, it's an old challenge one more time and old cars (and standard) too..

it's GT4 inside GT5!!! the power of recycling :grumpy:

I'm disappointed too, especially since they still didn't add the Ram SRT-10. OIt should have been in GT4.

Also, I'd die and go to heaven if I saw a premium Syclone.
