Penalty for overtaking a stationary cars under yellows

Incident happens at the end of this video, penny for your thoughts!?
Well, you overtook the silver Porsche under yellows, and while he was having a messy moment after making contact with the Corvette, he was technically on the track and the yellows had been out for a couple of seconds before you passed him. The sign said Overtaking is Prohibited, you overtook.

The fact that he was going very slowly and allowing him to re-pass you would have dropped you way down off the back of the Corvette aren't taken into account. In real life, you could probably have carried on and explained your actions with video evidence after the race to have any penalty overturned, but that's not how it works here.

Not ideal, but those are the rules, and frankly, GT Sport has done better here than it normally does, when you'd have got the penalty just for passing the ghosted car or someone in the barrier at the far side of the grass!

The sign was there for a good second before you overtook the Porsche...

Here is what happened to me at Suzuka: a guy was returning to the track after a pit stop, yellow flag goes up for some annoying reason (I assume it is because the guy returning to track drives slowly as he rejoins) and it just so happened that I was overtaking a car on the straight at the very moment the flag was up (which is like 1 second maybe) so yeah... this was fine

But why should you stop your manoeuvre and allow your opponents to catch you upbecause someone else has crashed?

this is what i dont get, am I just expected to stop until driver corrects himself and gets back on track?

I'd have dropped down another 5-6 places by then lol

Yes.
They alert you to problems ahead and potentially cars going sideways across the track

Well when they appear, I've seen cars go off and no flag ever came out. Nearly got hit by one of the said no yellow crashed cars flying back on at a sharp angle too.

There are many issue with the yellows and penalties right now, even if the video in the op isn't one, it's possible removing the system is an easier, therefore more likely solution than fixing it.

what the hell are you talking about? no you are not and you wont get any penalty for overtaking a guy that crashed

I just watched the full video of the race, and I think the OP has a lot to learn about aggression. It's a short race yes, but I think you need to chill a bit. You made a lot of needless contact and jumped down the inside and just hoped the other guys where more courteous* than yourself...

That's why they are used in real life... but the question was "do we need them in GT Sport" - I would say no and that any car sideways or stationary should be ghosted...

Ok, but if people are spinning out ahead of me, I'm grateful for the warning ahead of time so when they are trying to rejoin the track I'm at least aware there will be slow moving cars around.

So, because sometimes they don't work they should be abandoned completely? They need working, but removing them would be a step back imo

Edit: auto correct

No but then I worry that PD fixing this will actually make it worse than it currently is. I'd argue this yellow system shouldn't have been added until it was working better than it currently is in the first place too.

I also play every day, over 20k miles driven. I honestly feel like this is happening to me?

It is much more likely to happen to you if you are not at the front as the main cause of unfair penalties (not the only one) is when you pass the car that caused the yellow when it has just been auto reset to track, pass before that and it's usually fine unless multiple cars have gone off.

so basically it is flawed then?

I like the yellow flags for the warning they provide, penalties make them more exciting and possibly race changing sometimes getting a benefit and sometimes losing out.

I disagree about the penalties, as (like being rammed affecting your SR) it is not working as intended.

Yes but not so much in the video in the first post, where he could have slowed to stay level/just behind the car trying to stay on track and passed him after they passed the ghosted car in front and got zero penalty.

But then you allow the pack behind to catch you up... basically wasting a X second lead that you spent X laps gaining.

But that happens in real life, eg use up tires getting a 20 second lead and then the safety car comes out.

Maybe virtual safety car would be the answer.

Does not matter in this one unique case in the op, as with two cars side by side they'd be no room to get past and it was the last lap.

In other circumstances the system does not work, hence @Factor41 saying that actually this video shows the system working better than it normally does.

this is my gripe about the whole thing! they dont even need to follow the yellow flag cause by the time I've slowed down for it, the yellow flag is over and I just sit back and watch them all overtake me?

EDIT: I know this is not the case with OP video, but is a common occurence in yellow flag situations

this sounds like a good idea. they already have the safety cars built so get em out there and use them PD lol

So, you're worried that, in trying to make it better PD might make it worse... which justifies removing it?

Yes but personally I'm not sure I go as far as removing them. That however is probably where we'll end up eventually though when it still doesn't work properly after a number of attempts to fix it.

I do hope I'm wrong of course and the yellow system soon works almost flawlessly.
