If only i had an extra day, so i could get all of the colours of the R8 LMS. I could only sponged 2.

A good frined of mine has performed it, and for him it does work. He got an X2010.
I'm in the process of updating right now after stricly backing everything up. I'm on the last update, so I will soon update you on wether or not it worked (at least for me).
UPDATE: It did work. However some cars I need to re-create a thumbnail. Some cars lost paint jobs and other lost all modifications to them. I did lose my DLC but I can redownload that. All pictures were deleted. Auto-message settings were reset. I lost all my custom tracks that I created, and downloaded. Some cars that had special painting or wheel changes were reset, but engine modifications remained. Cars that were painted seemto be randomly losing paint. Other cars that were painted were untouched.
I would appreciate if you would add these to the OP.

Wow, good point. Just realized some paint jobs gone. What else might be missing? Oh well, gained more than I lost for sure.

Well I went thru the game pretty heavily, most of it just seems to be customization of some sort that can easily be replaced. The only real bummer was the fact that you cannot re-import your old photos from the XMB after you delete your game data.
Some wheels did also change back to stock wheels. If you lost paint from a car, it does not reappear in your paints list. It's gone forever. Other than those, and the thumbnails, everything seems to be fine.

Yea, it worked for me with no problem getting the X1 proto, besides the pictures and thumbnails but it took about 3 hours. 
I don't know if I'll be doing this too much. I think I will try to get a couple of teecro's R8's and maybe a green RX7 LM Racecar if I can find someone with one. But I guess if I do it overnight, its not that bad.
The thumbnail thing is aggrivating but I won't restore them until I'm done or they fix this in the next patch. Oh and I lost my 7 DLC cars but were able to redownload them, which is better because I had some irreversible upgrades done to my M3. 👍

My 599 was blue, now it's red again even after creating thumbnail. I don't think I've lost parts but can't be sure as I have over 400 cars. Next day off will be spent checking set ups on top used cars I guess.
I can tell you I had the 599 out last night and it felt "off" and not as tight on Rome. Other cars felt better...did 56 xx on tsukuba in my Elise with assists off. Good time for me for sure.

I think I may try to get a few of the R8's depending on the color combos. Don't think I can get too many done as this is a lengthy process but as always, I appreciate your kindness.

After I get the next few cars I want to get off my friend I'm going to deeply go through the game and go into everything possible just to make sure its all good. I don't want to be having to re-generate thumbnails all the time though. I guesss that's the price we pay. I really wish I could have my tracks back but honestly I only really used one and it was downloaded from a friend.

personally i wouldnt bother until u've finally dfone cos it'll lose teh tumbnails again teh next time you've done it. may as well just leave em way they are while your sponging and save yourself the hassle. s'all i've done

That's exactly what I plan to do. This first time I did it just to make sure they would re-generate ok. That only thing that really upsets me is the lost tracks. Everything else is replaceable.
This is a pretty sweet gltich. Only downfall is the fact that the patches are so freakin' large. Otherwise this could be a really quick gltich that could save me lots of time grinding.

What I did was simply delete game data to version 1.0 and I owned the car, I was only trying to reinstall the game
What this does:
This glitch allows you to permanently "borrow a persons car and own it.
How to do this:
1. First, borrow a friends car. Delete GT5 game data, it's the first folder in the Game tab in the XMB
2. Start GT5, refuse to download the patches
3. You should own the borrowed car BUT select a different car in your garage
4. Install patches and enjoy!
Pros of this glitch:
1. The original owner keeps the car and you get a copy of it
2. There's no types of trade caps
Cons of this glitch:
1. Time consuming
2. DELETING GAME DATA does not REMOVE ANY DLC

A. The final update process can take anywhere from 30-60 minutes, in total about 1 hour per car
The average delete time for game data is about 5 minutes

A. No, you can only borrow one car at a time
Q. Should I re install the game afterwards?
A. No, it just adds more time if you want to glitch again

A. Back it up first
You will NOT lose your pictures and replays if you do this...
Go to your replays and pictures in the game.
Press TRIANGLE on each one. [Pictures you can do all at once, not sure about replays.]
Then press 'Export to Save Data' or 'Export to 'Export to XMB Photo Menu'
Then your replays and pictures are their own file on your PS3.
You can leave them there or back them up.
After you are done with this glitch, when you go back into the photo and replay section, there is something in there that you press and it will bring your stuff back into the game.

Yeah, the dlc cars liek chromeline and stealth are removed from your garage BUT are still in your 'View downloads' section of teh PSN store so you just hav eto re-download them again. There was uncertainty about teh GT Academy GT-R from this years academy but i can confirm that that ISN'T removed your garage

Back to DLC, don't you have to re-do all previous modifcations to it when you redownload it? Or are the mods saved in your save data so when you redownload the car thay are automatically applied?
Also, doing my 3rd car now lol. Got a Mark IV and 2J yesterday, doing the 2D now =P

nah teh dlc cars will be as stock again so u'll have to buy any upgrades and re-tune them.
I've had it happen before when i've took my save game and gt5 to a mates house. loaded save up and obv he'd not got the dlc. got back home and when loaded it up, detected teh dlc cars and they were all zero miles, zero mods

Well I rmember everything I did to my Camaro so it won't be hard to redo everything to it. I'm really liking this glitch other than the fact it takes forever to redownload the updates. Takes about 45 minutes for me to get them all downloaded.
