Hey, guys. :)

Decided to start my own gallery so I can have some feedback from someone other than myself and my friends (they always say it's cool regardless, so...).

Any comments will be greatly appreciated (I'm always eager to learn and improve) AND rewarded with free beer for anyone visiting Portugal.
My camera is only a Canon PowerShot SX100 IS so there's only so much I can do, especially when it comes to depth of field.

To compensate for the camera, I usually try to get the best out of each shot with my still limited knowledge of Photoshop (CS2 user), but what looks good to me may not look the same way to someone else, especially someone that knows a lot more than me about the subject.

So, here are a few samples of shots I took and edited:

Tell me what you think. :scared:

I think they're good, with the limitations you have. I remember using a non-SLR, you do the best you can. My first camera was a 2-MP piece of junk...and you could only take 60 pictures...but it was great. I think I've taken some of my best with it.

My favourite is the last one, of the fisherman. The background is lovely. I perhaps might have tried to get all of the rod in, but I'm sure there is a reason why you didn't, and it's lovely the way it is.

The reflection in the first shot is really distracting. The second shot lacks a point of focus but the last two Silhouette shots are great. I would have probably liked to have scene a little more of the scenery in the fisherman shot but overall nice job. 👍

As syntax said, the reflection is fairly distracting in the first shot. On the second shot, I would have made the point of focus a bit further out. Last two are fairly clean, given what you are working with. Actually, looking at it again, I really like that sunset picture.

The fisherman shot is simply superb. Publisher quality. Someone would buy that if it were a >10MPixel picture.

The tarmac is a nice abstract, but the road itself leads you away to... something not very interesting. I dunno. I'm torn. The idea is a sound one. :)

The sunset again is fantastic - but something is wrong with the houses... or is it the 'noise' of the aerials/antennae? Try editing out all the little antennae - the roof shapes are actually quite interesting and do not seem 'typical'.

Syntax is right about the clock. :)

I've recently ordered a pretty spiffy camera, I've been armchairing a lot recently... so I hope to post some of my photos on my own steep leaning curve soon. :)

Holy...!
I can't believe that only yesterday before falling to sleep I remembered I had a gallery over here. It coincided with the exact date I stopped having internet at home, which still is no excuse for never having returned again and forgetting about it. :grumpy:

I really have to thank all the people that posted giving their advice and their opinions on the shots I had posted, you guys were all dead on when you gave your input about the strong points and weaknesses of each shot. Even I now look at them and (apart the fisherman one which I really like though it could've been less cramped), don't really like these shots anymore. I just hope that I'll keep on thinking like that about the ones I'll be posting in the future, it's a good sign.

Ok, on for the very first update since March 2009...
These were all taken on my first outing with the new DSRL (Iber GT at Jerez de la Frontera, Spain), and were all taken with the 18-55 kit lens.
As always, your input is much appreciated (and I promise I won't wait almost 2 years to come back here again. ;)

It was quite a great event. As you can see, there where even some cars from other GT championships running here, like Paul Whight's Aston just above (which I follow on Motors TV on a regular basis), and quite a few cars from the Portuguese GT championship also entered.

First time I ever saw Alvaro Parente in loco, and I was just amazed at how that guy can drive, he's really out of this world, no kidding. Plus, he's just a great person, as I found by the quick chat we had just before he went on to take his shirt off and work hard along his crew to get all the stuff packed and in the truck. 👍
