As now reported in many news sources around the World (including: Chicago Sun Times & MKKBB), CBn can now confirm from its own source close to the negotiations for Bond 21 that Pierce Brosnan will not be returning to the role of James Bond.

Brosnan had previously stated that he was good for five, perhaps six films, tying him with Sean Connery?s term with Eon. This no longer seems to be case.

Brosnan has stepped into the role of 007 four times (Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day). Each film he made did better in the global market than the previous one, with DAD being second only to Thunderball in adjusted total worldwide gross. Die Another Day also saw the theme song nominated for two Grammy Awards and featured an acadamy award winning actress (Halle Berry) as the main Bond girl.

However, Brosnan's term was not without controversy. Some fans felt that Bond had gone too far into the world gadgets and pop culture, while others complained about poor plots and dialogue. Brosnan himself was injured in each of the films he made, hurting his back in the final fight sequence of GE, having his face cut open in TND, getting burned in the back while filming TWINE, and most famously, hurting his knee while filming the hovercraft sequence in DAD.

Negotiations finalising Brosnan?s Bond 21 contract are said to have ceased, and the search for the next James Bond is well underway. Though no replacement has been found at this time, filming of Bond 21 is still reported to begin in early 2005. Eon Productions is said to be waiting to make an announcement until Brosnan?s successor is named.

But even when the sixth James Bond steps into the gunbarrel, for many Bond fans young and old, Pierce Brosnan?s tenure will cast a heavy shadow over those that follow for he succeeded in entertaining millions. CBn wish Mr. Brosnan all the best for the future, and all the best to the forthcoming Bond number six.

Theres also a film about James Bond in his younger years being made, which I bet will be crap. Bond will be played by Orlando Bloom in that (god help Bond), I don't disslike Bloom, much, but he's definitely no Bond young or old.

As for the proper Bond films, I'm not too sure who would be best, he'd have to have a British accent and he has to look the part. I like one or two of the recent Bond films TND being the best of them, but I though DAD was terrible.

Get Sean Bean in there (pronounced, by those in the know, as "See-an, Bee-an"... "Shorn Been" my arse).

Okay, you'd have to ignore the massive plot hole which would be caused by him being the baddie in Goldeneye. But it'd be great to hear Bond saying "Aye. Bugger off Blofeld, yer dozy old bastard."

Lol, Sean Bean is a good actor but I don't se him as Bond, but that would be funny to see.

Get Sean Connery back in there. He was the best. A little makeup and he will be back to his old self.

Without a doubt, i think Clive Owen (the driver from the BMW Films) would make an outstanding Bond. He's got that aloof, always in control, and slick look and demeanor that is demanded by 007.

Heh, you know who should be bond? The Rock, Dwayne Johnson is it? He'd make a perfect James Bond, he's one heck of an actor, and I think he could handle it. 👍

What about Jude Law? He seems to be able to pull on the 'suave' jacket in his performances. Although I always see him as that dude from The Talented Mr. Ripley.

I’m glad to see Brosnan go, to me he was awful as he never really pulled off a good punch line, he basically had no substance and was all show and to me no go.

I bet if the casting agents searched around for some non-mainstream actor I’m sure the next Bond film providing it has a decent plot would be a bit more of a success. Although not having a mainstream actor wouldn’t draw in the large crowds at first it would be a definate gamble.

As long as there are lots of guns, girls and explosions the average Joe will be happy.

The Rock doesn't have a British accent.

I forgot! What do you guys think of Hugh Jackman? I'm not sure if that's his name, I'm talking about the actor who played Wolverine in the X-Men series. 👍

Mr.Bean I don't know his name, would make one heck of a Bond, but he'd ruin the series and make it more comedy style. Johnny English was the best movie, ever!

Rowan Atkinson would not fit the part at all. He could drive a McLaren F1 though, and crash it, like he did in real life!

It's been a while since they've come out with a decent James Bond film, Golden Eye being the last one that I really enjoyed.

I don't think it would matter if the actor has an accent or not (in real life). They have dialect coaches for movies. Hell, most people still don't know that Colin Farrell is really Irish.

I heard that Eric Bana is lined up to be the next Bond. Can this really be true?

I guess it COULD be true, but whether it is or not is a different story. Personaly I don't think he looks the part, he's a good actor but I don't think he'd make a Bond.

that would be lame, but in my option bond films are geting more lame as the continuasly or however yous pell it dish em out.... and suposivly in goldenye two bong is the bad guy because you play the villain.... FTW!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I think Sir Ranulph Fiennes would make a good bond. Maybe if he was a bit younger.

Ioan Gruffudd would be great! Although I am a biased Welshlander. :dopey:

Why you biased Welshlander :).

The key sentence in that article and the same thing was written in the Wall Street Journal.
"“Die Another Day” — which became the franchise’s biggest moneymaker. So he may yet live twice."
They will pay P. Brosnan more money for one more movie. Die another Day was one of MGM's biggest money makers ever and the owner is trying to sell it(MGM) for 4 to 5 Billion and with PB signed for another Bond movie, it will sell at the higher amount. Give him another 10 million extra and bank 800 million after ticket and DVD sales. Its a no brainer.

Thats... sad really.

I never got into the bond movies til I randomly picked up one at the library (Goldeneye I beleive) and it was great, and I've seen about 4 now, two with Bronson and two with Connery... I personally liked Bronson better.

I read the list of "considered" actors in the article tabs linked to, and I personally think Hugh Jackman would be the best of the choices. They never do what I want though. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see eh? I just hope they don't let the franchise go to pot.
