Not sure if anybody can answer this, but I recently decided to get a PS4 and should have it some time in the next few weeks, and for some time I've been clciking on Playstation Plus's free PS4 games via my PS3, whereupon nothing appears to happen, but next to the game it then says "Purchased", and adds to my purchase history.

Now I am assuming I should be able to download these games fully when I sync my PSN ID on the PS4, giving me an instant game library, but has anyone done this, or can verify if this should work?

Hello! I'm still aiming to get a PS4... so, looks like there's two models out there. I've read that the differences are minor, but I would like to hear it from you guys.

I have an option to get the old one with a glossy finish + DriveClub or the new one with matte finish + extra controller.
Are there reports about the lifespan or other problems?

The newer model is slightly lighter, quieter and more energy efficient... that might in the long term lead to better reliability but there weren't many glaring issues with the first gen one. Oh and the new one has physical buttons rather than touch sensitive ones. I would say Driveclub and a controller are equal in value, the controller is probably worth slightly more now! It depends how much you want Driveclub. I personally would buy the new one, sell the controller and buy the game.

They are now tied to your ID to download after you set up your PS4. Whether if they are queued to download I don't know, you might have to go to your library and start the downloads from there.

Got the PS4 yesterday. Man, setting up custom controls for War Thunder is a major pain.. Easy to tell that the game is PC first and console second. :irked:

I gave up eventually, which is a shame as I was enjoying the game, but weird-as-hell and nigh on inexplicable menus that don't seem to consider the cross-vehicle nature of things made it all too much of a headache for me.

That's why I shall concentrate on planes only. The menu is indeed rather uncooperative which I find odd.

Wise move - maybe the cross-functionality will get some attention in future. I remember that they did tweak menus with that in mind not too long after the tanks expansion arrived.

Sony's Jim Ryan claims they won't do backwards compatibility because "it's a feature that's not used much."
Playstation Lifestyle

I know a big thing was made about this at E3. It’s a feature – we go through this when we launch a new console – it’s a feature that gets much talked about. But it’s a feature that’s not used that much. People move on very quickly.

It was very interesting to look at that montage of the various Tekkens, and seeing how those things have evolved over the years. The first one, which I loved, looks prehistoric. The next generation comes along, and people just jump at it. It gets talked about, and it’s always high on the list of what people want, but it’s not a feature that gets used that much. Our focus is on the new games.

What a crock of horse:censored:

Got around to watching the Paris Game Show conference, and I gotta say, it was really good. Lots of interesting games on display and good pacing. Dreams looks pretty great, and I am getting hyped for PlayStation VR.

What so you have buy something you've already paid for? No chance he's right at all. Backwards compatibility is useful for early in a console lifespan when proper excellent games are thin on the ground.

It's use then diminishes once game development hits its stride.

He's right though, and with developers putting out collections of old games that have been remastered, there's even less need for backwards compatibility.
I totally agree, the newer PS3's were not backward compatible.I still have my PS3 hooked up to my TV,turn it on and play. Hardly use it though since I have PS4. Developers are not going to make 2 games for each system for much longer. Different architecture.
COD is not offering campaign on PS3 and 360. It's coming folks. They want to sell PS4's and XBox 1 !

Then don't sell the old console...

If you've already bought those old games, it means you also have the console to play them on. In other words, you have no actual need for backwards compatability.

I got enough saved up for a PS4, just waiting to see what happens with Black Friday, Since there is already one Xbox one bundle for 300, and one place did briefly had xbox one console only for 200 but has been removed.
I know I will get it before GTS, but do I get it sooner than that?

Stock answer from a Playstation apologist perspective. Of cause Sony will say they don't think it important - they aren't planning on doing it. Microsoft are. I bet they say it's important.

1. You may have to sell your old machine to finance your new one.

2. Your new TV may not allow an acceptable connection to your old console.

3. Your significant other may have made an agreement with you to a one box under the TV rule.

OK #1 I can agree with.
#2 hardly likely as almost all new tv's accept even old vcr connections with RCA plugs,or RGB connections, plus HDMI.
#3 really? Who wears the pants?

1. This arguement doesn't make sense to me. You could sell something else, or simply wait an extra month or three to save up the extra money. If you need to sell something in order to buy something that is relatively cheap, then perhaps you should consider whether those money are needed elsewhere. You're never forced to get rid of the old console. That's all about priorities.

2. I've yet to see a TV that didn't have the required connections for anything dating back at least to the PS One. In any case, there are other alternatives available if your TV does not have the required inputs, such as getting a dedicated surround sound receiver, which will definately have the required input.

3. Replace the significant other, because frankly, if she can't survive with more than one box under/around the TV, she's not a keeper.
