Hello! I'm still aiming to get a PS4... so, looks like there's two models out there. I've read that the differences are minor, but I would like to hear it from you guys.
I have an option to get the old one with a glossy finish + DriveClub or the new one with matte finish + extra controller.
Are there reports about the lifespan or other problems?
Not sure if anybody can answer this, but I recently decided to get a PS4 and should have it some time in the next few weeks, and for some time I've been clciking on Playstation Plus's free PS4 games via my PS3, whereupon nothing appears to happen, but next to the game it then says "Purchased", and adds to my purchase history.
Now I am assuming I should be able to download these games fully when I sync my PSN ID on the PS4, giving me an instant game library, but has anyone done this, or can verify if this should work?
They are now tied to your ID to download after you set up your PS4. Whether if they are queued to download I don't know, you might have to go to your library and start the downloads from there.
I gave up eventually, which is a shame as I was enjoying the game, but weird-as-hell and nigh on inexplicable menus that don't seem to consider the cross-vehicle nature of things made it all too much of a headache for me.Got the PS4 yesterday. Man, setting up custom controls for War Thunder is a major pain.. Easy to tell that the game is PC first and console second.
That's why I shall concentrate on planes only. The menu is indeed rather uncooperative which I find odd.I gave up eventually, which is a shame as I was enjoying the game, but weird-as-hell and nigh on inexplicable menus that don't seem to consider the cross-vehicle nature of things made it all too much of a headache for me.
Wise move - maybe the cross-functionality will get some attention in future. I remember that they did tweak menus with that in mind not too long after the tanks expansion arrived. That's why I shall concentrate on planes only. The menu is indeed rather uncooperative which I find odd.

I know a big thing was made about this at E3. It’s a feature – we go through this when we launch a new console – it’s a feature that gets much talked about. But it’s a feature that’s not used that much. People move on very quickly.
It was very interesting to look at that montage of the various Tekkens, and seeing how those things have evolved over the years. The first one, which I loved, looks prehistoric. The next generation comes along, and people just jump at it. It gets talked about, and it’s always high on the list of what people want, but it’s not a feature that gets used that much. Our focus is on the new games.
He's right though, and with developers putting out collections of old games that have been remastered, there's even less need for backwards compatibility.Sony's Jim Ryan claims they won't do backwards compatibility because "it's a feature that's not used much."

What a crock of horse:censored:
I totally agree, the newer PS3's were not backward compatible.I still have my PS3 hooked up to my TV,turn it on and play. Hardly use it though since I have PS4. Developers are not going to make 2 games for each system for much longer. Different architecture. He's right though, and with developers putting out collections of old games that have been remastered, there's even less need for backwards compatibility.
Then don't sell the old console...What so you have buy something you've already paid for? No chance he's right at all. Backwards compatibility is useful for early in a console lifespan when proper excellent games are thin on the ground.
It's use then diminishes once game development hits its stride.
Or don't buy old console! They've sold 25 million PS4's. It has finally turned a profit. Then don't sell the old console...

If you've already bought those old games, it means you also have the console to play them on. In other words, you have no actual need for backwards compatability.
OK #1 I can agree with.Stock answer from a Playstation apologist perspective. Of cause Sony will say they don't think it important - they aren't planning on doing it. Microsoft are. I bet they say it's important.
1. You may have to sell your old machine to finance your new one.
2. Your new TV may not allow an acceptable connection to your old console.
3. Your significant other may have made an agreement with you to a one box under the TV rule.
