PlayStation 5 Games Reveal Event Confirmed for June 4

A lot of you should stick to playing video games and simply stay out of any political discussion. If you’re one of those people who took the day off for this, I don’t feel bad

Great, cool, whatever. I really don’t give a **** about what this company has to say or what games that they have right now.

Sony is a company and I doubt they really give a damn about inequality or these protesters. In order to save themselves from getting crap from média and the public, and to maximize viewership, they are postponing the show. Think, the US is likely Sony’s largest market, why would they want to lose out on viewership to a protest?

If you can’t wait for Sony to sell you shiny new stuff, show your support and buy yourself another PS4 bundle, I’m sure they need all of the money they can get.

Smart move by Sony as they appear socially responsible while also ensuring their unveil doesn't get overshadowed.

There’s actually been a lot of peaceful protest. That you can’t differentiate doesn’t mean it didn’t exist.

It should also be noted that quite a few protesters have been doing a better job than the police at deescalating things.

Not surprised coming from a California based entity

But somewhat surprising coming from a parent company based in a country so racist, it would rather go extinct, than change their immigration policy.
Absolutely no correlation whatsoever. It’s almost as if one is blind to the point of what’s going on, even though part of that point is in the post itself.

What a load of crap. Why the hell does Sony even care about what's going on now? Since when have they had a political agenda? Gaming has no relation to the protests going on right now, so why should they put the reveal on hold? Oh, it's so that they can be "seen" as doing the right thing and not offend people. What gives Sony? I cannot understand the reasoning behind this. Don't stop yourselves from revealing your games, you won't upset anybody by doing so.

Well if not for being socially conscience, the other obvious reason is that the world is focused on something right now that they’d likely get little attention. That seems absolutely counterproductive to doing things like this.

Don’t you worry your fragile little heart. You’ll survive the PS5 event delay.

Speaking of "world focus" and since I'm in Germany (and my brother is in Turkey), this is hardly the talk of the town in either country. Not least since we're still in a first-in-a-lifetime pandemic.

It is focus in parts of the world. That you aren’t doesn’t really mean much about it at all. I wasn’t going to sit here and list every single place that has a focus on it, but you’re only fooling yourself by pretend there isn’t an outside the US trend on it. You do you baby boo, like you said were in a pandemic, Among other things. This Sony event isn’t really important at all, you’ll live.

and That would be the “blind” part of my post. Didn’t think it would happen again so quickly, though.

Trend, sure. But what isn't these days. "Global focus"? Hardly.
Oh, and probably unlike you, I've so far lived without having ever seen any "Sony event" (and won't see this one either). I'm just here for the clowns.

Nice change of pace you got going there.

Congrats on not seeing some sort of Sony events. Aren’t you such a big boy now.

Thousands! Stop the presses! Haha.

Dude, there are protests with thousands of people on just about any topic every other week here in Hamburg alone.

Media/art and politics are very closely intertwined. Given the fact that PlayStation is ultimately a form of media that we consume, I'd argue that companies who produce and reproduce media are represented by individuals. Said individuals in a company are going to have beliefs and values about the world around them. The people at PlayStation (a very Americentric brand nowadays) have made a decision based on their beliefs and values.

Oh, it's so that they can be "seen" as doing the right thing and not offend people. What gives Sony? I cannot understand the reasoning behind this. Don't stop yourselves from revealing your games, you won't upset anybody by doing so.
There's probably a few different reasons for them postponing, and you hit the nail on the head for one of them.
  • The corporate employee in me knows that they do want to do the right thing. Going back to the notion of values, the people at Sony/PlayStation US see what's happening isn't in tune with the values of employees or the values of the company. Sony using their large platform to bring awareness and act in solidarity with those fighting against institutional racism in the US.
  • The 'booo capitalism sucks!' in me knows that it is ultimately PR work, and that if they were to announce it they'd probably get a bit of criticism due to the tone-deafness of it.
  • If they were to release it now it would be but a blip in the news radar because the hot news of the day are the BLM protests. Delaying it a week or two gives PlayStation time for the news to slow down again and look for a more opportune time to both minimise criticism and maximise media attention.

Dankeschön, but hold your elephants, Merrick... we'll have to see about that once this upcoming event transpires and I'm really able to big boy my way around it too!

I bet you don’t even know where the goal posts are at this point. Not that it’s surprising though.

Yeah ant how it all turned out?
I'm talking about the whole picture.
Every protest is just escalating things and it does not matter if it started peaceful.

When people gather in masses personal responsibility and thinking goes out the window.

I'm not saying that peoples intentions were not good. But it always leads to this - be it Europe or America

So the announcement of the cancellation of the June 4th is the confirmation that there really was an event on June 4th...

With that out of the way...

Now let's take bets:

Who wants to guess the next reveal date?
Who wants to guess what other world event will cancel the next reveal date?

Lets hear it guys and gals   :gtpflag:

Oh and try to treat each other fairly and with love you all, be a real leader, don't be a coward.
