PlayStation 5 Rumors Latest: Console Reveal Within the Next Six Weeks

My slim is nice & quiet too, glad I didn't upgrade to a Pro at the time, I was pretty close at one stage. I don't think I will upgrade until at least halfway through the next generation, I've so much to play/yet to play. Hopefully by that time if any mid gen updates occur I can take advantage.

@Jtheripper -- Same here; I'm glad I got a Slim model PS4, I guess, because I have zero complaints even in a house full of malamute fur.

I could probably just as well wait for a revised model of the PS5, too. The likes of GT7 or PCARS3 are probably a ways off yet, and they'll probably be in better shape months after release given the way PS/XB games go with the "launch now and fix it later" mentality. I'll have things to play on Switch in the meantime.

Hi guys, yeah same here i can wait and see, my backlog is crazy. Hoping my ps4 will keep enduring.
My ps4 is not the slim though, maybe a year before i guess. I think i got it 2.5 years after launch and i remember checking revision model numbers and it was the most recent then.
Cheers.

The ps4 i have is almost silent and i never noticed heat issues, touch wood..now i worry just to say it and it will start whew.
My PS4 and Pro were/are loud consoles and in specific games it's simple to loud without headset and really annoying. Glad Cerny acknowledged the problem!

Most people seem to have issues with it and the few conflicted reports can be explained simply.
  • What's "loud" depends on an individual person. Some even play with headset most of the time.
  • How loud the console gets depends on the games & the difference can be big.
  • Identical models have different quality fan's, which is stupid and a bad move by Sony.
  • The newest models have less of a noise problem. Still not silent by any means, but more silent.
Hopefully PS5 won't have these problems. Fingers crossed.

Sounds like you got the model 'C' just before the slim, I had one of those & yes it was quiet.

I would honestly sooner believe the XboxsX of having over heating tendencies than I would with the ps5 from what Ive seen so far.

I don't think I will get a PlayStation 5 when it comes out because none of the games I want will be launch titles and buying it for backwards compatibility would be like buying a PlayStation 4 Pro because my TV is 9 years old and not 4K so for me I don't care that much for graphics. So I will probably wait for Gran Turismo 7 before buying this console because I don't know of any other good racing games coming out and Codemasters owns SMS.

Games I wantG GranTurismo 7, Red Dead Redemption 3, Grand Theft Auto 6, Project Cars 3 if Codemasters leaves the development alone. Or maybe I should just buy a PC.

They better support this gens racing wheels or I am done with them and moving to pc.

PC has definitely got better and with no restrictions and no online fees consoles really dont have much to offer these days.

I thought about buying a wheel for PlayStation 4 and would use it mostly for Gran Turismo Sport but the problem is the PlayStation 5 will be coming eventually will Gran Turismo Sport be on PlayStation 5? and if so would they keep it online on PlayStation 4 or is it not coming to the PlayStation 5?

I currently choose console because it's more convenient and less things go wrong I'm not good with computers.

I would like to get a PC but I just don't like Windows 10.

...

As you said flying already exists in games, but these games sacrifice details at the ground and don't have an very high travel speed. Just like racing games don't have track/level detail as good as an top Shooter or RPG.

...

I guarantee that this will still be the case in the SSD era. It is all still a matter of scale, or rather the possible range of scales within the same single experience. With fixed computational resources, you can push the level of detail at a single scale much further than you can when you have to spread it over several scales. Anything designed to spread that detail better (e.g. literal LoD scaling schemes) will incur a performance and storage / bandwidth (not to mention development) overhead, closing the gap, but still falling short.

Issues with teleportation and so on are really a result of a mismatch between artistic vision and engine architecture. If you don't design the engine and data structures etc. to suit what you want them to do, obviously they won't do it. You might as well just pick an off-the-shelf engine and turn around some "content" to make a quick dollar. There is of course an awful lot that can be done with off-the-shelf packages and a completely unfettered creative mind, so I'm not some technocratic snob or anything.

But, as a general systems fanatic, I really, really don't buy into the cynical consumerist hype nonsense. I am looking forward to a step change in immersion nonetheless, at least as far as we're talking about studios with any modicum of artistic integrity, combined with the confidence and resources to make it happen at the technical level 👍

So my PS4 decided to do the BLOD today. (Even though it was working Tuesday)
Tried all the trouble shooting and nothing.

So the question is do I just wait for the PS5 to come out or try for a second PS4?

Assume you are going to be waiting for a minimum of 6 months before you have the chance to own a PS5. If you can't wait that long, it is best to buy a PS4 in the meantime.

Well if it's any help for those of you running older 'PS4's mine is a model from October 2014 (first generation I believe) and it's still running with no major noise from the fan units (GT Sport Discovr) aside and I keep my fingers crossed it will continue to run that way.

My interest in the PS5 much rests on the games that are revealed as coming up rather than the console itself though how it looks might also be a decision factor so far there is nothing on PS5 that I won't have purchased already on PS4 that compels me to buy but we shall see.

Well the only reason why I asked is that granted I just tried this morning but I just started back working so my gaming may be only 1 to 2 times a week if that depending on scheduling.
So it's like save up and get the PS5.
Maybe it's just having a temper tantrum right now and needs to just sit unplugged for awhile.

Did you try booting it up in Safe Mode and doing a data repair or whatever it's called?

If it stops working for good you could just pick up a 2nd hand system to tide you over till the PS5 launches so the outlay isn't as much.

Don't even go into Safe mode.
I got the Blue light of death.
Oh boy. That's tough. About 2-3 months ago my standard PS4 went on the bum too and besides loud fan was causing issues with my Fanatec wheel constantly disconnecting. Before it went I'd planned to buy the PS5 when released anyhow and when the PS4 went on the bum I pondered if I should wait it out until the PS5 release but in the end I decided I couldn't wait til the end of the year without gaming so bit the bullet and bought a new PS4...the Slim version this time. Thank God I did and haven't regretted it. And my decision was further gratified when I learnt the PS5 wasn't even going to meet it's expected release date and be pushed into next year sometime in 2021 who knows when.

So glad now I made the decision. It may be harder for you though considering have just gotten a job and whatnot.

Not heard of that before.

If you hold the power "button" down until you get a double beep. Can you do that or is it completely dead?

It dead.
Upon further investigating
The Blue light of death is either when the APU separates from the board and doesn't create a good contact to start or one of the memory chips is bad.
No real solid work around at all from that except try and repair it yourself or what most do is get a new one.
With the PS5 coming out this Holiday and I started my work which would last until October it's like is it really worth getting a used PS4 now or just to wait.

Sorry to give you the bad news but PS5 no longer coming out this holiday or anytime this year.

Sony did say Coronavirus has not affected the PS5's schedule and it's still supposed to launch 'Holiday 2020'. Although how many consoles they have manufactured to sell at launch will be the question.

I'm still hearing this and that it will be "limited" number and how many will that be is still questionable.
I have heard 5 million and 3 million and 7 million.
As long as I get one out of those numbers I am good.

The statement ....Sony did say "Coronavirus has not affected the PS5's schedule and it's still supposed to launch 'Holiday 2020'" was made sometime in March though....before the worldwide impact of Covid escalated ten-fold.

Looks like PS5 will be releasing October 2020. Hopefully get to see the console very soon, might be really compact for the performance it's packing.

I think because the outbreak is already in decline in places like China and wider Asia (where all this stuff is sourced and manufactured) it makes the impact on manufacture less of an issue. The West however might have issues with logistics and getting it on the shelves if things are still reasonably bad by Autumn.

PlayStation Studios

Looks like a re-branding of SIE Worldwide Studios... odd that there's no GT in there though, given that PD is an SIE Worldwide Studio/PlayStation Studio...

Looks like October 2020 date might have been a mistake. Anyway not long to find out, hopefully they can release PS5 this year.

There are going to be variations of it:

Eric Lempel (Senior vice president and head of global marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment)
"The cinematic you've seen is the one that has multiple games in it. But over time, as we introduce well established franchises, we can tailor that opening a bit to possibly show the franchise over the years, new characters that have come into play... There's a lot we can do that we're really excited about."

Even third party games that Sony studios helped will be shown under the same brand.
