PlayStation VR2 for PlayStation 5

Fingers crossed for GT7 support. If it has it, I'll probably buy one just to try it out. Especially since I (STILL) can't get the mapped left and right d-pad buttons to look left and right in GTS

I’m having flashbacks to another VR announcement.. and we all know how that played out. Maybe next time vr tour mode will have 2 cars driving slowly instead of just the one. Fingers crossed for something more this time by.

Exactly. That was the reason for me to go the PS way, instead of PC. It was very disappointing. Do not believe them, until it is really happening.

question for the nerds:

How is the new resolution specs of the PSVR2 compared to the competition? How much better is it than the PSVR?

yeah, yeah,yeah,yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah..... I Know its "twice" as good. I can count. Just want a yard stick for comparison that even a dummy like me can understand.

Regardless, I'm buying one as soon as they come out if GT7 supports it. I plugged in my PSVR yesterday for the first time in like, EVER. I wanted to see if it looked better in my shiny new PS5 than it did in my old bone stock ps4.

Maybe. only a discernible amount, if any.

The biggest thing that frustrated me about the VR set was the realization of how horribly difficult it was to set up. And the camera was still off. Stoked to hear that PSVR2 is plug and play!

BTW, is Dirt 5 psvr compatible? Read it somewhere (maybe here) that its free for January!

The resolution is on par with or better than basically all high end consumer headsets. Only the HP Reverb G2 has a higher resolution that I know of, and even that is only barely higher.
The eye tracking in the PSVR2 makes foveated rendering possible, which makes it way easier for the console to actually use that resolution properly, so you can also expect that image quality will be better than most competitors.

As far as I know Dirt 5 doesn't have VR support

My god I hope GT7, and many more upcoming driving games will support this.

Driving with PSVR i GT sport is just a fantastic feeling.

After playing in Pancake mode so many years. It was really an eye opener to drive the same tracks in VR. Just felling the elevation, and angles of the corners much more in VR.

Only problem was we could only drive time trials, or againts one horible AI car. A full GT 7 game with a carrer mode where we can play it all in VR that is a great dream of mine :)

Finally, they announced something on this! Because it was shown ahead of GT7's release, I'm maintaining hope that GT7 will launch with PSVR2 support. That'd be the nudge I need to get a PS5.

Like many others have mentioned, seeing GTS through VR is a game changer for immersion. The VR time trials, arcade mode, and studio tour were high-value proofs of concept, especially the time trials.

I'm really counting on PD having at least the career mode and license tests available in VR. Kudos if they have multiple locations for the VR studio tour. Mega kudos if the PS5 has enough power to run sport mode in VR, but not holding my breath.

I’m still irritated that I bought the GTS VR bundle only to find out that it was just one other AI car (that was pathetic competition at that). VR is insane for immersion. Would be a dream come true. That’s why it won’t. Sony or PD would hype it up if it were going to be available. Looks like PC is imminent for me.

Having PS5 and a PC with oculus as comparison, i really dont expect much from graphical side. To run vr at 90hz in that kind of resolution requires some serious headroom from GPU - which PS5 doesnt really have. 5800x + rtx3080 + 64Gb strugless to keep 45fps with quest 2 resolution if graphics are anything above stripped back compared to non-vr. This will propably still be a "work in progress" -generation for VR on consoles.

With eye-tracking they will do a trick called foveated rendering. This means they only render the parts you are looking at in full resolution, and the rest in lower resolution (which you won't notice because you aren't looking at it).
This can massively boost frame rates. So don't be surprised if this works better than Oculus does on your high end PC

I am aware of this and also very happy and extremely impressed if they pull this off without noticeable delay. Even a slight delay will give you heavy drunk/tired -effect, as your eyes dont fix rightaway. One must remember we are speaking of eye movement here. In comparison this would make term "blink of an eye" seem like a reference to 19th century steam machine.
