pls help!

I got a ps3 and a hd blu ray surround sound and a optical cable. I hooked up ps3 to surround sound reciever went under settings in ps3 under audio clicked on optical setting choose dolby 5.1 and still no sound. I bought everything ($500 surround sound) and followed everything and nothing. Could someone please help me?
wrong place to post but any other spot no one will help they would rther talk about there cell phones and i figure most gt players know and use surround sound

I think your best best is the official Sony message boards. It's littered with questions and answers about sound system setups. I'm not really sure who here has what, or if they are knowledgeable about the finer points of it.

I hate to tell you to look elsewhere, but at the same time, I think you'll find more much info and help there.

What cable are you using to hook it up to the tv?

make sure only the top check is checked off when it gives you types of audio.

Ignore the greyed ones.

Try multi-AV out. This allow me to output sound via HDMI to my TV and via optical to my receiver. Also be sure you have the correct input selected for your receiver.

go to settings - sound settings - audio multi-output and set the option to on.

Also be sure the optical to your receiver is going in and not out. I know it's obvious but we're troubleshooting.
