PMC - Week 145 - Closed

C'mon people, three entries? This is a great theme and its supposed to be closing soon. I hope more people enter, I'm interested to see what people bring to the table.

Well maybe I'm to blame. :guilty: Don't know if the theme is really hard to do or that many people aren't interested in entering, maybe I should enter as well..... See what I can do by the end of the day.... :sly:

I wouldn't say you're to blame at all...I thought the theme was a great one. Instantly when I saw it 100 ideas ran through my head. I had like 4-5 cars that I wanted to take to La Sarthe and snap. As was stated earlier in the post...if you don't have a prototype car, you can still get a pic for the comp without it being YOUR car. Also, you did say GT class is included, which also expands horizons.

Another idea I had, just for kicks...and maybe some feedback:

moved to "honorable mention" under my original picture

Off topic:
In case anyone is thinking "wow that smith021 guy...he's ALWAYS viewing this forum" (though I do doubt anyone pays close attention to my activity here...I figured I'd explain myself just in case.)...I keep my explorer open and while I sit at home after work, I just refresh it every now and then to see any new posts. The comps add another dimension to GT4, and if new comps are posted, I like to participate instead of watching TV. I just wish I could edit pics well enough for the 2.0 comps. :irked:

Do you think it's better than my original entry? I'm really questioning changing it...what I meant by the "you don't need a LM car to take pics" thing is you can enter a race with those cars in it and take pics of them instead of the car you entered with...I don't think using someone elses pics for the comp would be deemed fair. ;)

well, the quality of the pictures is largely affected by PS'ing, even with the limited modifications allowed. However, i do see your point. nevermind, post edited.

i have to say i like the 787 shot better. although the pescy shot is better in theory, it is so sharp i can't tell if the cars are moving. whereas with the 787 shot, i get the feel of the speed they're carrying.

One is of a better quality/creativity (Pescy) the other is of a more stirring nature (787).

And i really wish i wouldn't have chosen my final entry so rashly. I took some fantastic shots of the CLK today. cursing myself. ah well. Que Sera Sera

Wow, smith, your runner up entry is fantastic and I must say, much better than your final entry, but you can’t change it, because of this:
LdS
[*]Please do not ask other members to choose your entry. Have confidence in your own skills and go with your favourite shot(s).[/LIST]
I know you aren’t directly asking it, but indirectly you where. Just try to understand why.
You can however put a link (in the same post has your entry just saying Honorable Mention) for that image.

But please, avoid submitting images rather than the final entry in the competition. There are the galleries for making that.
The same goes to Tupacrulez.

Also (for Tupacrulez): there some persons here that used Gimp for editing their image, I remember Simmis and I think atlop has well (thought I am not really sure), and you maybe can ask for advice on using it. There are also some tutorials on GTPlanet, HERE. There are some Gimp Tutorials by Pink_the_Floyd (now Bram Turismo). Also, you can change your entry (once), has long has the image hasn’t been here.

p.s. - For people who don’t have any Le Mans car, or any money to buy one, just go to arcade mode, choose a Le Mans Car (@ La Sarthe, of course) and run for a spin or two, save the replay, go to Simulation Mode or Gran Turismo Mode, go to the replay theatre, play the replay and from then you can take a picture or two.

w00t. been screwing with gimp for about an hour, have found some useful stuff. have followed Pink's guides, and a few others too, but i forget that stuff pretty quickly. however, the simplicity of the allowed modifications has allowed me to do some work to a couple. I'll edit my 'final entry' post with a new one. Also, the off topic image has been edited out.

Thank you for being patient with perhaps an overzealous newbie.

Yeah LdS I have gimp but try to avoid using it when I don't necessarily need it. :)

tupacrulez if you want an smaller, easier and lighter program you could try paint.net.

http://www.getpaint.net/

It's freeware (works only with windows though). I find it much easier and faster to work with than gimp and it's more than enough for PMC level editing. It can do some lighter 2.0 stuff too. Only problem with it is that it reduces saturation when you up the contrast so in case you want to avoid that you may want to adjust contrast with gimp first and do the rest with paint.net. At least I find this faster than doing all editing with gimp.

Alright that works...yea I wasn't exactly asking him to choose my entry I have just been torn between the 2 and wanted to see what people thought...I would never let someone else choose my entry...I just wanted an opinion. But hey, rules are rules.

By the way tupac...very nice new entry. 👍

Just a little tip as well...I don't know if gimp/paint.net has a tool for the job, but editing out the watermark in the bottom right corner is also a way to give more attention to the picture as a whole.

Yay! This is my first time using Gimp. Thanks for posting the tutorial! Helped me a lot.:)
Final Entry

By the way tupac...very nice new entry.
Thank you. If you look, I do believe it was around 4 in the morning when i updated my entry, so it really wasn't the thing on my mind to get rid of a watermark, even if it would have been REALLY easy, judging from the position. a simple clone over job probably woulda done it.

Also: I'll keep using GIMP. Been familiarizing myself with it alot more today, and have been having good results through screwing around.

I'll see if I have a shot I can use.

By the way, guys, you can buy a car in GT mode (but DON'T get in, that will save your game) exit and go to arcade mode and use it. Just be sure not to save when you're done (reset your console.) And make sure the Auto-Save is set to Restricted.

And now, for my first ever PMC entry:

F I N A L E N T R Y

"Now would be a good time to be a groundhog..."

Click for full (and non-"squished") size

It strikes me odd that no one adjusted the exposure in GT4 to make it night, and then upped the contrast/brightness to bring out the headlight beams on the Chicaned Sarthe track, since it turns the car's headlights on.

btw: nice shots Swiss and ty.

If this one remains open for a few hours, I might enter with something.
GREAT shot Swiss :D

EDT - Here is my

Great entries guys! 👍

I think I didn’t explain correctly. MSR had a 24 hour cycle based on your location.

Do you mean your location IN GAME, or Physical location? :scared:

TW- Very nice shot there, love the focal point style there. I would vote for it overall this week.. had it not just disappeared. lol

... edit: & reappeared.
