Pokémon GO: Catch 'Em All in the Real World

I just spent a couple of hours walking around campus and catching Pokemon with a couple of my friends. We went all over, but spent most of our time in the central square because there were four stops with two more not that far away, and all of them had lure modules active. Not only that, but when we got there you could have assumed a concert had just let out from the auditorium, but the throngs of people were all there to catch Pokemon. I thought it was a really cool thing to be a part of. Plus, I walked away with a very nice haul.

Gyms still seem to be buggy, though...the three of us tackled a gym that would glitch out in various ways no matter what we did.

Found a Spereevee earlier.

The fact that this has been so well received is surely the death sentence for Nintendo as a hardware maker. This game has generated more buzz and possibly will generate more cash than most of what they have attempted in the past few years. Nintendo would be wise to make all their proper games PS4/XB1 multiplatform and their portable games phone apps.

You can't get Pokemon Go on DS... that really says it all.

Why would they release Pokemon Go on dead hardware? Also, if you mean the 3DS then you surely don't understand just how well it has sold from a hardware perspective and also how much the mainline games sell.

Across the 4 mainline games currently available on the 3DS, Nintendo have sold ~26 Million copies. Even though this is less than older titles, it still kicks the 🤬 of most franchises out there, especially at it's age.

Pokemon Go has pretty much zero in common with the actual Pokemon games, there's no comparison between a cool app and an actual video game. Never doubt the pulling power of Nintendo, they are the only company of the big trio who keep consoles afloat with their own first party support practically.

Entering the mobile market was a smart move to bring companion applications to the mass market which will then cause interest in their actual games and consoles. Not a consolidator for their 'failing' hardware attempts.

The whole concept of Go is tailored to a mobile phone - not a games console.

Yes I meant the 3DS, the whole ecosystem is called the DS range still to this day. A game like this would be perfect for that platform and them not making this a DS game rather than a mobile game says a lot from where they are looking to take the company. It's well documented that they intended to ramp up app releases and possibly become a publisher rather than hardware manufacturer in the not too distant future depending how well the NX does.

They have done well out of DS and Pokemon game sales but that was in the past, looking forward the dedicated portable market is only going to shrink further and I don't see that console or it's games selling anywhere near as well down the line. The 3DS had a really rough start as it was.

I wouldn't say this is any different to other Pokemon games, if you mean the main titles then maybe but there have been other obtuse titles like Pokemon Snap and Pikachu games for example which had console releases. Why couldn't this be a DS game? There are some crazy things on that platform that far less 'gamey' than this!

Well I found out that the college here has like 15 pokestops. and 4 gyms. Went around collecting them and manage to find a controlled gym where I can add one. So I got like 100+ balls and 1 in the gym now. Probably beating my girlfriend as we speak. :P I am so mean.

If ex-president Iwata is to be believed. “We have come to hold a stronger passion and vision for the video games console” with this decision, Iwata said. Essentially, he believes that compelling mobile games can act as a “bridge” that pushes more consumers to buy dedicated Nintendo games consoles.

It's well documented that they intended ... and possibly become a publisher rather than hardware manufacturer in the not too distant future depending how well the NX does.

...and bounced back, the success of the Wii and DS was never going to be replicated by Nintendo, that doesn't mean they should give up on the hardware business. 50 million+ 3DSs is still incredibly impressive. We go through this type of doomsday scenario everytime something happens with Nintendo - positive or negative - it's pretty tiresome.

I said 'actual' for a reason, people want a true Pokemon experience from the actual consoles, not from their mobile. Pokemon still sells and will continue to.

I took a glance at NDSU and it is completely loaded, too.

My kids will not be happy.

Especially as they can't even get signed in. Is that an iPhone versus Android issue or is it just coincidence?

I would guess IU has at least 30 PokeStops on campus, and at least eight gyms as well. It's a gold mine.

I've been pairing up equally with Android and iPhone users and nobody's had a better or worse time than the other. I'm on Android myself and my only issues have been related to my carrier and spotty wifi.

They had a segment on a show here, and I guess they could be in strip clubs?
I also know that the eggs you get from the stops are locked on what level you are.
Got like 5 or so 5km, 2 km and 2 10km eggs.
At lease after I get my 2 5Km done I am going to do both 10Km ones.

Edit: Level 7 now. with I think now 6 eevee which I have heard to keep them since they can do random and grow into some powerful ones.

I already have 2 pokemon and 7 eggs. I haven't even left the house yet because my mobile data doesn't reset until the 13th. Thank Arceus for pokestops within range of the house wi-fi.

@Robin. -- No other publisher understands better than Nintendo that mobile games aren't "real" games, and that you can't make money publishing "real" games on mobile. Shifting to mobile would be antithetical to Nintendo's philosophies of game design and hardware innovation, so it would be a bigger twist than Konami's recent stunts.

Stubbornness is their nature. If Nintendo can print money with apps like Pokémon GO, they'll spend it continuing the development of their own hardware and software, even if their mobile apps earn more revenue and are more relevant. The fact that this has been so well received is the opposite of a death sentence for Nintendo as a hardware maker.

So a group of 4 deiced to lure people and rob them playing Pokemon Go. This game is a big N-O for me, I don't like going anywhere anyways...

I want to see more stories like this. Not because I want people being robbed or hurt, but to see the lengths people will go to participate in the game.

Then there's something like this:

I doubt it's real, but regardless, it's a humourous story to me.

It's scary. I've seen kids walking around aimlessly just doing this. Right outside my office. Also I caught a Dratini while sitting inside my office.

It's a little concerning how many mindless zombies there will be wandering around campus when school starts back up as there's already enough that I'm positive are playing now and campus is almost empty. :scared:

Hey! Watch where you are walking!

You can paint Nintendo's doom with a negative or positive paintbrush by the looks of it. Nintendo will use the money and hype earned from this app to push the mainline games. It's genius.

Got 2 eggs hatched,
Going 2 more now. Both 10km ones at the same time.
Good thing you can do 2 of them at once.
Just about halfway to 8.

Just out of chance what's your highest CP one.
I got one of 418
