This is a bit of an old subject, but I was just thinking about it. And I have some opinions on the subject that I havent expressed to people. Atleast to people that might care. My family is always complaining becuase I always b!tch about stuff like this.

Anyways, this show was great. On the other late night shows guests always just came on to whore out their new movies, with nothing much else to say. Just some funny stories or things here and there to entertain the audience and viewers into watching. On PI people came on to talk about real issues. Even if i didnt always agree with the opinions of people, it was good to actually see some of these things discussed. I could also see which celebrities where really dirt dumb and whos opinion's were easily influenced by the media. (IMO, caused by weak mindedness)

This show was cancelled a while back, and I think we all know why. Bill had a problem with everyone referring to terrorists and more specifically the 9/11 highjackers as cowards. Bill stated his opinion, like he has many many times before. (The show is called what it is for a reason BTW.) He said something to the effect of "Anyone willing to die horribly for any cause is definately not a coward." He then went on to say something like "Propelling missiles from a safe compound 20,000 miles away is cowardly." ABC apparently had a problem with this. His show was off the air a few weeks later and replaced by a latenight news show.

I think this was a mistake.

I have always had the idea that coward meant "afraid of something". "brave" could be thought as the opposite of that. If this was the case, Bill's opinions shouldnt be considered wrong. And he definately didnt deserve the consequences brought on by ABC. I think censorship is present in this country. Not by the government, but within everything else. Censorship would be understandable if Bill's statements were very wrong and offensive, but I dont think they were. I think the initial "talking ourselves up, talking terrorists down" (hero vs. cowards) by the media after 9/11 caused his statements to be offensive to some. If general opinion wasnt so easily swayed by the media then this wouldnt have been a problem. Many other problems would be gone or smaller as well.

I dont really agree that USA military men and women should be considered cowards. (killing from a safe shelter afar definately takes less guts than suicide, but doing something that takes less guts does not define a coward). But I think for the highjackers to do what they did, it required them to be brave. As wrong as this may sound, and as much as US politicians and media people want us to believe they were cowards, i hold my opinion.

I think many people who use the term coward dont know the real meaning. I think coward is used too often to describe people who do something bad to our people. Its easy to use the word coward to describe someone we want to insult, but i think other words could be used.

Some people have told me they were cowards because they didnt want to deal with the problems they faced, instead they chose suicide. But whether you agree with what they did or not, killing thousands is definately doing something. Suicide was just a requirement of the plan they chose (again, out of context of killing innocent thousands, a brilliant plan).

I could also say that the actual highjackers were pawns in the hands of the people who planned the attack. (I cant remember if our government found out who did the planning for the specific attack. I thought I heard each cell of Al Queda planned their own attacks. Bin Laden just encouraged and tought people how to plan their own terror projects.) In this case the highjackers were brave to sacrifice their lives for the plan. Then the planners would be the cowards because they didnt go themselves. But then again, Im sure there is rank in their organization. Maybe the planners were more valuable to Al Queda. In that case they were doing their job (which could be considered cowardly because they didnt face up to the problems they faced, they instead chose to kill thousands. But again, I could say killing thousands is doing something [maybe not right, but still something]. And Im sure attacking the USA would be a better way to get attention than by saying "Hello mr. bush, please pay attention to us, we hate you because of this, change your ways to please us or we must attack." [But then again, that wouldnt get bush's attention any better than they did this way. It just caused Bush to stop them by dismantling networks, rather than figuring out why we are hated so much.] Therefor there is no way to really get the attention of a country to change their ways. I dont even know if that is possible. In the case of this attack, it was the only plan of action they could take [Besides doing nothing, which may be better than killing thousands in your opinion, but put yourself in their shoes.]

That whole messy thing was just me trying to prove why the attackers couldnt be considered cowards. This is kind of the base of my whole opinion that Bill's show shouldnt have been cancelled. I tried to organize it as much as possible (while organizing my thoughts as well [I usually confuse myself. Im not very good at writing down my thoughts, but it helps me organize them.]).

I am kind of sticking my neck out by stating my true opinion on such politically incorrect things. So please try not to crucify me. Also, if you are dumb, or not up for understanding what I mean, please dont comment. Im looking for only intelligent responses. Discussions can get messy when people post stupid crap.

Comment on what you thought about the show. What you thought about it getting cancelled. Cencorship. Or what you think about terrorists being considered cowards. Or anything else that would not veer us too far off topic.

Also, this thread is about a TV show, but it contains a more political focus, and has to do with opinions. Threads in TV & Movies usually have a less serious tone. I think it will catch the eye of the people that would be interested in a topic like this in the Opinions forum. Move it to TV & Movies if you must, but I think it is better fit here.

Ok. You are saying the hijackers were brave because they did what they did. I can see your point. I think though there is a fine line between bravery and stupidity. I think the hijackers were the later because they believed in something as stupid as a god rewarding them for killing innocent people. I guess maybe thier god will reward them for doing it but I'm guessing it wont be pleasant.

Second point. If it is braver to fight at closer range then we should get rid of all weapons and fight hand to hand. Just beat the crap out of each others till there is only on man standing.

Some of the world might see the hijackers and suicide bombers as brave but in my opinion they are cowards and lunatics who need to blame everyone else for everything bad in their lives instead of looking at their own screwed up beliefs.

I mean, you have to be twisted to believe that your god rewards you for killing innocent people he created.

If Bill got cancelled for saying the hijackers were brave and insinuating that U.S. and our allies are cowards then as far as I'm concerned I hope he never goes on the air again. In fact I think they should draft him and put him on the front line with no weapon and lets see what bravery looks like.

Bill isn't an 'elephant' OR 'donkey',... therefore those guy's see his enlightening talk show as a shot against them. I'm sure they were watching for him to F-up for a long time. He's way to open minded and 'politically CORRECT' to ever surive in the long term in our system. Our politition's are scared ****less of guy's like him,... because he actually makes you look at evrything from the broadest perspective.

R.I.P. Politically Incorrect - For a moment there, you gave us hope.

Who knows. Maybe he will be the next suicide bomber. At least he will get a shot at being on T.V. again.
Plus people would be able to see that he is truly brave.
Actually I did watch him a few times. He was ok but he seemed to always take the unpopular view just to get a rise out of people and to get ratings.

I wasnt really saying the highkackers were brave, I was just trying to explain why i didnt think they were cowards. Also, even if someeone is stupid, If they do something that takes a lot of guts, I think they are brave. A crazy lunatic killing thousands while commiting suicide may be stupid, but it takes guts. (or if he truly believes he will be rewarded by god[which i dont believe in], then maybe he isnt brave. If you believed somethng like that you wouldnt fear death at all. But still, it would take some deep thought to get to the point where you dont fear death, and going on with a plan like that still takes guts.

Of course it takes more guts to fight closer where there is actually a risk to you. But I wouldnt consider someone that fought from afar as a coward, especially if they are the morally right ones.

Bill didnt say that the highjackers were brave, he just thought it was funny they were considered cowards. Also, whatever his views, i dont think his show shouldve been cancelled. Because the free market and TV system works the way it does (when people watch a show stays, when peole dont watch a show goes), I wouldve respected and understood more if after ABC saw that the viewers for the show declined dramatically, they had pulled the show while explaining that the ratings are going down the toilet. Instead the show was pulled because ABC didnt like his opinions. I think that is wrong.

I don't understand how you can't consider the hijackers brave, even if you don't agree with their cause.

I think that brave means "afraid of something but you do it anyway". And cowardice means giving in to the fear.

I would say the hijackers were almost certainly brave, but still utterly wrong.

That seems like a better definition for bravery. If something is dangerous, there is really no way to NOT be afraid of it, but you do it anyways. If you know there is a risk in something, than not being afraid of it is being oblivious and ignoring facts. (Or just downright being ready to die, which they probably were.) Whether that makes them brave or not, I dont know. (Im confusing myself) I just think they were in no way cowards.

Like I stated earlier. There is a fine line between brave and stupidity. I believe they were way on the other side of the line. Stupid( or insane) people will do things normal rational people might see as brave.
I don't believe it takes bravery for a stupid or insane person to do something like that.

The worst thing you can do in a conflict of any kind is underestimate your opponent. A person who decides that the best way to hurt his enemy without wasting his life, is to blow up as many of them as possible along with himself, Is not a coward . He is an opponent who has come to realise that if hes going to die in a struggle he beleives in ,hes going to make his death worthwhile. When the propaganda you hear turns terrorist into cowards it only makes them that much more dangerous. No one would call the Japanese pilots who sacraficed themselves to blow up a ship cowards. Instead the smart people recognized them for the weapon they were and installed as many anti aircraft weapons as they possibly could to protect themselves from the threat. Mr Mahrs mistake was calling the people who fired the cruise missles " cowards ". They were smart enough to do their job without getting killed. No one wins a war by dying for their country. He makes the other poor dumb bastard die for his instead. I believe George Patton said that or somthing very close to it. Bottom line is you need to educate yourself about your enemy in order to defend yourself. Bill Mahr owes them an apology. the idiots who fired him owe Mr Mahr and their former audiance the same.

my god. i dont expect you to do ****. if you dont want to read it, dont. but dont waste your time making a stupid post whining about it.

Shut up. You're a moron and I will say whatever I want. I will make it a practice to harrass you whenever I'm in the mood. Your bloated, meaningless and incomprehensible ramblings are a scar on this website, only topped by your open anti-semitism. You're an idiot and think you have something to say when your head is really filled with shi!t, twisted, deliberate, ****.

And leave god out of it. No god with an ounce of self respect would be "yours."

Wow...
I only have one or two more things to say. They were either stupid or insane. Bravery is a good human trait and people like the terrorist of 9-11 should never be associated with any good human trait. They and their fellow believers are animals and deserve nothing better than to be treated and spoke of as animals. So from here on out I will be referring to their kind as som kind of animal ie. dogs, pigs, gutter rats, ect....
Maybe not dogs. That would be cruel to the dogs.

Bravery and cowardice are abstract concepts that can be expressed through various actions. It takes a mind capable of grasping abstractions to see why flying a plane into a building in order to kill as many innocent poeple as possible is cowardice. Bill Maher and AdvanR obviously do not posses this ability, which isn't surprising coming from someone who justifies his anti-semitism with genetic arguments . We live in an age where it is fashionable to be divisive, as if it shows some kind of independence. But the dolts who propagate this crap are merely trying to look smart. They don't care about anything except themselves and appearing clever, which falls shy of even rudimentary thought. If you think the 9/11 killers were brave you are stupid and shoul've been in the towers when they went down.

anyone that doesnt agree with you is a stupid person trying to look smart. thats a good way to argue your opinion when your stance has no base.

also saying anyone not agreeing with you should die a horrible death only adds to your lunacy.

i am not trying to be fashionable or look smart. Im sorry i disagree with most of the crap people say. i think for myself and dont have a problem disagreeing with people.

also, if i notice a difference between some races, it only makes sense to figure out why. like i said before, different people dont just LOOK differently, they have other differences also. if you have a problem with my opinion on this subject, i really dont care. but quit whining about it and bringing our differences of opinion on that subject over to other threads.

and how can you even comment on my opinions? you said you didnt want to spend the time to read my garbage thread, and also that you would never respond to my posts again.

Ok, first, lets be nice in this thread.
This is a great thread and shouldnt be ruined by ignorant remarks or stupid ones.
I like the opinions Ive heard from everyone and we all have a right to express them.
Since this is a topic of much emotion (9/11), it may be closed if it gets out of hand, its up to you ppl. ;)
Personally, the thinking is good of AdvanR and understand what he is talking about.
Censorship thrives here in America and is a direct First Amendment right that is being strietched to its limit.
Bravery and cowardace are very fine lines as to which you are taliking about. It depends on which point of view you take as to whether its cowardace or bravery on the respect of the plane bombers.
They were brave for their cause, but cowardace for not fighting like real men in battle like our soldiers will soon be doing. (My opinion)
Anyway, the conversation can go on forever, like politics and religion so again, lets be nice on the replies here and also intelligent in the manner of expressing our feeling.

No. Not anyone. Only raging ****heads who spew nonsense about the bravery of terrorism and genetically justified anti-semitism. And to make it worse, you back-peddal everything you say and act like that you were misunderstood. People arent that stupid. If I am baseless, please, show me how and where.

also saying anyone not agreeing with you should die a horrible death only adds to your lunacy.
You mean lunacy like:
i hate jews
and...
I think most jewish people have some jewish gene that make them different. I do not like this jewish gene.
Frankly, I don't care if you think it's lunacy. But I guess the best we could hope for in a mass murder is that some of the spuerfluous garbage might be disposed of. Too much to ask, I guess. Not any one, just you.

No. It's not whining. It's calling you on your lies, your garbage, your half-baked bigotry, and your base stupidity. Your reputation always precedes you.

and how can you even comment on my opinions? you said you didnt want to spend the time to read my garbage thread, and also that you would never respond to my posts again.
I changed my mind. People like you need to be watched. You are a sub-par buffoon masquerading as an intelligent person and I don't think you've fooled anybody. You reveal that in every single one of your posts and I will be there to point it out, every time. Get used to it.

Can't argue with that. But there is one right perspective, and one wrong one. Sitting on the fence and siding with murderers is pure masturbation, for people who can't comprehend what is at stake whether that be die to stunted thought processes or bigotry and hypocrisy. Hve the balls to be decisive for crissakes! Who's side are you on?! And there are two sides.
They were brave for their cause, but cowardace for not fighting like real men in battle like our soldiers will soon be doing.
No. This is wrong. And you said it, so you're wrong. The cause itself is cowardly. Any action stemming from this so-called cause is cowardly. If you think differently you don't care what happens to innocent people. This is not a time for armchair philosophers to ponder moral relativism. This is a time to preserve freedom as a way of life. If people could only see that it is this very freedom that allows them to talk about terrorist's bravery without consequence, they just might shut up.

But he apologized  And all that shows is that he knew he had to.

Eric, whatever he may have said previously, haunting him with his own words across the entire forum is uncalled for. Maybe it's better to just deal with it privately.

I don't know,..... anyone with the balls to say the stuff he did,.... should be able to handle the scrutony. After all,... he wouldn't have said it if he couldn't back it up in theory eh? Just a thought,... but like you say, I'd rather just drop it,... subjects like that are completely pointless when trying to search for the truth.
