Public support for X is unpopular so groups of people stay quiet about it right up until casting their ballot. Thus, all the polls and predictions appear wrong.

It depends of past elections data available, as polls analysts applies corrections to raw data before publication based on known differences between what is declared and what comes out from the following election. The problem is, they only have data from GOP primary, since Trump is quite unusual.

I am registered Republican, but for the Presidency I voted Johnson. He's a goofball, but at least he hasn't completely fried himself publicly.

He has, but lack of air time has caused it to go under the radar. I mean I don't think his fried moments are any where near Clinton and Trump, but they are on the fringe portion of "what the hell did you just smoke or snort"
