  • I'd like GT to focus a lot more 'insane levels of realism' on realistic motor racing.

  • I'd like GT's motor racing to stay in the realms of fantasy, mostly devoid of realistic rules.

BTW, for those that think adding more realistic rules is 'hardcore', ask yourself this..

Would you consider a soccer game that allowed you to pick the ball up and run it into the net a 'soccer' game? And would you accuse those players that realized this was wrong and asked for it to be fixed, of being 'hardcore'?

Or is it simply your ignorance of the RULES of the sport you decided to buy a game about making you think like this? Sure, watch soccer long enough, and you'll see someone touching the ball occasionally, or head-butting another player. But would you REALLY buy a soccer game that allowed you to do those thing ALL THE TIME without penalty (or so inadequate a penalty it made the behavior acceptable).

Next time you watch racing on TV, don't watch it for all the wrecks... watch it and look for all the times they DIDN'T wreck..! Those vastly outnumber the contact. Real racers have patience. Real racers know that if they barge around indiscriminately, they'll be black flagged. Real racers know that, in most contact, they are as likely to end up out of the race as their opponent. And they drive accordingly.

If that is 'hardcore', perhaps you need to move to Burnout Paradise or something like that?! Or go pick up that soccer ball...

I think in the end, the hard truth is that those after a realistic racing experience, won't find it in Gran Turismo 5. This is for a few reasons -

* Prodigious use of street car's
*Photomode
*B-Spec
*Inability to produce a more than decent online experience
*Extremely poor damage model
*Steering set at 900 degrees
*Lack of interior view for bulk of race cars

These factors and many others give us a good indication of Polyphonys goal with the Gran Turismo series. Sadly for me, it's not what I'm after. My advice is stop wasting time trying to change the game. Your opinion will most likely never be heard, plus, there a plenty of games out there that fill your requirements, as I have found.

Gran Turismo 5 isn't bad, it's just not for me. Theres a big difference.

Think it's probably a realistic(ish) racing experience but not a motor racing experience IMO. Many of us on this thread are Motorsport fans and not Vin Diesel but think we're probably hoping for too much as GT5 isn't a Motorsport sim. I love GT5 anyway but can always dream about the Motorsport side of it improving?!

Tbh an event/championship creator (which I imagine wouldn't be too difficult?!) even in arcade mode would actually prolong my enjoyment. You could at least then try to create your own relatively realistic DTM, GT, LM, etc, series, if you wanted to. Choose no of laps, opponents, circuits, AI strength, etc.

This. The problem I had with ToCA personally was it's visually pretty bad, plus ToCA forces the gamer to use just one make of car per race if I remember correctly. There's a lot of stuff missing from ToCA that's in GT games, but PD really needs to pay attention to how ToCA's damage and penalty system works, along with qualifying and other stuff missing from GT5.

I have ToCA 3, and I can relate to what you say. Visually, the game is unappealing compared to GT4. The physics seem totally different to those of GT4 as well. But gameplay wise, the racing is unmatched. GT4 racing just doesn't feel exciting. In ToCA 3, however, it's very, very entertaining to try and overtake the grid. Plus the damage and penalty system works very well. It makes you think twice before you attempt to pass a car.

But would you REALLY buy a soccer game that allowed you to do those thing ALL THE TIME without penalty (or so inadequate a penalty it made the behavior acceptable).

I would definitely buy a soccer game that let me play the ball with my hands on certain occasions, as well as fake fouls during the game.

That is a poor analogy. You move the ball with your feet in soccer, just as you drive a car in car racing. That has nothing to do with the rules. To use your analogy, you're not playing soccer unless you are playing in a regulation size field, using the regulation size ball, for the regulated time, with all the referee and linemen, and enforcing all the FIFA rules. The vast number of casual soccer games played do not meet these criteria.

GT is not a racing simulation. If you want all the racing experiences, including the rules and regulations, then you need to play another game. Try rfactor, iracing, or Live For Speed that cater to this niche.
