Are you sure? Nothing more powerful than a '69 Camaro has ever been reported in that series.

If you get the time, double-check that, will you?

I can confirm racing a red Ford GT on two separate occasions in the PD Cup. Fortunately, I never encountered it for an entire series, but when entering single races.

Also:
Peugeot 206 cc (blue)
Toyota Supra SZ-R (black)
Honda Integra Type R '03 (white)
Mazda RX-7 Limited '85 (red)
Toyota Corolla Runx '02 (white)
Volkswagen Polo ("sea-sick yellow-green")
Nismo Fairlady Z S-tune GT (silver w/stripes)
Fiat Barchetta Giovanne Due (orange)
Mercedes E55 AMG (red)

What's funny is that the NTSC version chooses AI cars in only one type of color.

This is taken from jdw's guide, but a list of all possible opponents for PD Cup in NTSC format is as follows, HP in []. Mostly on S2 tyres unless indicated.

Ford GT '05[550],
Merc SL55 '02[492],
Lotus Esprit V8[353],
BMW M3[339],
Subaru Impreza STi Prodrive '01[305],
Chevy Camaro SS '69[299],
Mazda RX-7 Spirit R[293],
Nismo Fairlady Z S-tune (S3 tires)[273],

Yep he's sure, I've been up against a black Ford GT myself.

Wow, I feel like an idiot.

When I first competed in the cup, I assumed it was going to be like any other Extreme Hall event (race cars, iconic high-end sports cars and the like), so I just brought out my FGT and thought I would smoke 'em. Not so the wicked.

I was surprised to find myself competing against 5 other FGT's who smoked B-spec Bob's ass in almost every event! After weeks of continuous trials, I deemed the event "impossible" and completed everything else but that.

I had no idea the car's you competed against were (slightly) contingent on the car you selected! After competing, I assumed that it was only FGT's (hence Polyphony Digital Cup), and never tried it again.

This was 2 years ago. Finally figured it out thanks to you guys.

FML.

Err, that wasn't the PD Cup, that was the Formula GT World Championship.

It's not possible to enter the PD Cup with the FGT.

Besides, the FGTWC is the only series where the AI ever uses the FGT (outside of perhaps Family Cup races, which aren't really a "series" anyway).

I know I just realized that after I finished. :dunce:
I am even more of an idiot.

Now I've got to hunt down some more help...

Ok, this is linked to in the FAQs anyway, but no harm to give it another airing here all the same, just in case people actually wish to try and attempt to make a decent race of this without resorting to the massive overkill and very little kudos of putting sports tyres on a full-tuned 88C-V Toyota. :yuck:

50 Lineups and tips for maximising points at Polyphony Digital Cup

Basically lineups 21 or 45 after a reset are your best bets if you want to go after competitive racing. 👍

PD basically killed this event in GT4 :( with the variety of cars in the lineup and lack of restrictions. 👎 A Ford GT and a Peugeot 106 in the same lineup? You don't need mystical powers and a crystal ball to figure out the winner there. :dunce:
In GT3 this event was restricted to unmodified cars which meant it was brilliant, you couldn't over-turbo or suspension-tune (or Nitrous 'cos it wasn't an option anyway :yuck:) through the races and had to rely on good old-fashioned driving skills and racetrack knowledge.

The problem is, of course, that wading through those first 20 lineups is a pain especially if you're intending to run the championship series, and I won't even think about going for the 45th lineup. I'd only do this when looking for a 200 A-Spec point race, not for a casual just-to-have-fun thing.

But that's just me, others of course may feel differently, and this is good information for those so inclined.
