It's been rumored for a while, now but I never thought it would be this bonkers!
620bhp in a 911, Porsche better be ready for a decline in owners, alot of them are gonna' get killed in this thing. It could do without the unpainted carbon-fibre on the wing, but other than that, it looks to be the true successor to the 993 and 996 GT2 the orignal 997 GT2 should've been.

We don't have much in the way of details, but a singular shot snapped at a dealer event yesterday shows that the baddest Porsche 911 ever to grace the tarmac is coming this September.

According to a tipster, the GT2 RS will carry a price tag of 240,000 euro when it arrives later this year and will supposedly pack enough power to topple the Carrera GT. Earlier reports indicate that the revised GT2, recently caught testing at the Nürburgring, will put out over 560 horsepower and 530 pound-feet of torque. However, it's safe to assume those figures will be increased In RS trim and we can expect a fully-adjustable suspension, roll cage and possibly some active aerodynamics. The press introduction is apparently scheduled for May 14th, so official details on Porsche's newest rear-wheel drive road warrior should be forthcoming.

UPDATE: A forum member at TeamSpeed has some preliminary stats from the launch in Leipzig. The new GT2 RS is reportedly packing 620 hp and will come in nearly 200 pounds lighter than the current GT2. The 0-62 mph time is pegged at 3.2 seconds with a rumored 'Ring time of... wait for it... 7:22 – the same as the Dodge Viper ACR.

All I can say is, what took them so long? That's what a 911 Turbo should be instead of a luxurious GT cruiser.

With a facelift coming soon, Porsche is probably doing what they did to the 996 GT2 in its last production year, i.e. new GT wheels, CF Spoiler, bump in power, & revised handling.

Hopefully this will be the car the GT2 should always have been.

The performance of the new gen 2 997 turbo with only 493 bhp is already mind bending (running sub 7's for 0-100 mph), so the GT2RS with >120bhp more should be amazingly fast in a straight line.

But straight line performance has never been a GT2's weakness. The problem is that the last couple of GT2's (996 & 997 gen 1) have been nothing more than a 2WD version of the Turbo, more suited to the road rather than a proper track biased, road capable rocket.

If the GT2RS gets a suspension set up similar to a GT3RS, and some of the trick bits of technollogy Porsche now have available, such as the PDK gearbox, launch control and Torque Vectoring, it could be monumentally fast round the corners too.

I look forward to 'The Monkey' giving it it's first UK test.

Being that much money, you have to wonder if it really is a good competitor to the ZR-1 and GT-R. It certainly is great to see them making an absolute monster of a car. I shouldn't have to go to an aftermarket tuner to get a completely insane version of the 911.

such as the PDK gearbox,

No thanks. Unlike the first 997 GT2 which was made by the people who did the Turbo and were only just convinced to leave it with a manual gearbox, this 997 GT2 is like the GT3's, made by the motorsport division. They know that outright speed isn't the main factor, and a PDK isn't as involving as a manual.

P.S Anybody who plays FM3, I've made a replica tune and livery for this new car on the 997 GT2, it drives quite nice, especially with the Porsche wheel.

This isn't a competitor for a Vette or a GT-R... more akin to a Ferrari 456 or top end Gallardo.

You want something insane, try the Sportec SPR1...

I understand what you're saying, but PDK will give a decent performance advantage over a manual box... and having both hands on the wheel with 620bhp 2WD car will also help too. We'll see what the Porsche boys do with it.

No, the gt2 is not a competitor to those two. I's a porsche, not a cheby or datsun.
Competitors at the ring, yes, everywhere else, no. The class of the porsche is just beyond anything the other two offer.

Oh, one very important question just came to mind: Will it have A/C?

Shame the GT regs won't allow 'em to race it. I don't think. Actually, maybe they could squeeze it into the new GT1. Would be awesome if they could...

You say that even though you have a GT-R as your avatar.

Pfff.. Call it trolling or whatever, but if the badges and such are removed, could you tell it apart from the rest of 911 lineup without looking at the rear wing? No, probably not.

You might not immediately know if it was a GT3, GT3 RS or GT2 or GT2 RS at first glance, but you'd never mistake it for a vanilla Carrera 2.

You'd have a harder time distinguishing an M3 from a 320i or a C63 from a C180.

It's not that difficult to tell the models apart, and far easier than differntiating the various models in most manufacturers ranges... at a glance differences taking a C2 as base, and ignoring wheel options...

C4 - as C2 but with wide rear body
GT3 - as C2, but with much lower ride, front splitter, rear spoiler/wing
GT3RS - as GT3, but with wide rear body and arch extensions on front wings (plus unique colours and graphics)
Turbo - as C4, but with air intakes on front edge of rear quarters and rear spoiler
GT2 - as Turbo, but with lower ride, front splitter and different rear spoiler

You don't need to be a rocket scientist ;)

Bah, I couldn't tell you the difference between a GT-R and a Spec V either besides the wheels.

You (or anyone else!) won't be able to because it'll be too far ahead of you to see what it is anyway. :P

Does a honda accord LX look completely different from a honda accord DX or whatever they use? The gt2, gt3, carrerra are all 911 models with what are basically different trim and options packages. The damn boxter looks different cause it's a different model.

Then this one is turbo and not NA, right? If so, I wonder if they did some kind of tri-scroll turbo to make Walter Rohl happy.

And exhausts... probably the biggest giveaway next to the wheels... :P

Correct.

One with LOTS of boost ;) :D

The coolest way to commit suicide.
I've often said, "Nobody remembers who died at 120mph, everyone remembers who died at 190mph." Put another way, "Nobody remembers who died in a Miata, Everyone remembers who died in a Porsche."

Some more pictures have surfaced on Autocar. I don't like the bare carbon-fibre on the exterior and I'm not sure about the red interior highlights.
