I'd get one if I could fit into it. But for that kind of cash I'd rather check out some of the Ruf cars. Do they integrate a full roll cage like Alois does?

Being that this is a RS model, I'm a bit surprised there isn't one in the GT2. Unless I'm not seeing it, or Porsche feels the GT2 doesn't need it.

Obviously there's the roll bar and all that. I just wonder if it goes to the A pillars and all around. Sorry that I'm such a porsche noob.

I've often said, "Nobody remembers who died at 120mph, everyone remembers who died at 190mph." Put another way, "Nobody remembers who died in a Miata, Everyone remembers who died in a Porsche."

Yep, people get pissed when a sucker total an high priced exotic. ;)

This beast will be often spotted at the Nurburgring for sure, so the chances of dying when trying to handle all the power and savagery are quite high.

Is there any performance figures for this car? Will it be able to match the 599 GTO?

RS's come with a rear cage as standard fit... though it's a delete option in the GT3RS. Door bars are included, though most owners tend not to fit them as it makes the car a pain to get in and out of.

The cage is a bolt in and as such, does not run down the A post.

Only 500 examples and nearly as much BHP as the ZR1? Yes. Oh god, yes. Best Beetle ever!

Official details from Autocar...

Porsche has revealed its most powerful road-going 911 to date: the GT2 RS.

To be built in a limited run of just 500, the new rear-wheel-drive road racer is powered by the latest evolution of its twin-turbo 3.6-litre flat six engine, tuned to deliver a Le Mans-grade 620bhp.

That’s a whopping 60bhp more than the standard 911 GT2 — now out of production — and 8bhp beyond the German car maker’s previous most powerful road car, the V10-powered Carrera GT.

The so-called Metzger engine — named after the motorsport engineer responsible for its original design — eschews the direct injection of Porsche’s newer 3.8-litre engines for an older, sequential injection system.

It also uses the latest Borg Warner turbochargers, producing 1.6bar of pressure instead of the old GT2’s 1.4bar.

Drive is fed to lightweight 19in forged alloy rear wheels shod with 335/30-profile tyres through a six-speed manual gearbox from Getrag and a mechanical limited-slip differential backed up by recalibrated stability control.

Carbonfibre is used for the bonnet, rear wing and seats, contributing to a 70kg weight reduction that nudges the GT2 RS down to 1370kg, 70kg less than the three-year-old 911 GT2. That gives it a power-to-weight ratio of 453bhp per tonne.

Extra downforce is provided by a 10mm higher rear wing, and an extended front airdam covers the wider front track.

Although it’s not the fastest-accelerating 911 of all time, the rear-drive GT2 RS’s performance is still extraordinary.

Porsche claims 0-62mph in 3.5sec (0.2sec faster than the 911 GT2), 0-124mph in 9.8sec and 0-186mph in 28.9sec. With a traditional 3.44:1 final drive, the GT2 RS is geared to hit 205mph at the redline in sixth gear.

A unique chassis set-up that includes Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), with variable damping control, also provides added agility.

As an indication of the car’s overall ability, Porsche claims the 911 GT2 RS has lapped the 13-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife in just 7min 18sec — 19sec faster than the new 530bhp 911 Turbo S — during recent testing. That time would make the RS the quickest series production car on standard road tyres at the legendary Germany circuit.

The 911 GT2 RS’s public unveiling will be at the Moscow Auto Fair in August. But Porsche projects its limited-volume production run will be accounted for before then.

It won’t be cheap, either. At £164,107, the GT2 RS will cost almost £33k than a regular GT2.

No silly GT3RS graphics :) The Ring time and the performance numbers are astonishing

Power to weight 453bhp per tonne vs 418bhp per tonne for the 599GTO... so should be at least as fast for half the price.

£165K on a 911 body? Errrrr.

I'm sure it's great, I'm sure it'd be more to drive than I can ever imagine owning in my life. But when someone turns to you and says "hey, we've got the same car!" and it turns out they have a C2, you're going to cry a little inside.

It's a lot of money for a 911, but this will undoubtedly increase in value over the coming years. It's going to be super rare (just 10 RHD cars for the UK) and if you can find one, a good 993 GT2 will cost you around £200k in today's market.

Unfortunately I suspect most will be snapped up by collectors and the closest most people will get to one is reading 'the monkeys' impressions in EVO.

A person owning a "frog" making such comment does not deserve to have one, let alone drive it... what a shame !!! :ouch:

... you're going to cry a little inside, not because people can't recognize and appreciate your car from theirs, but because you just cant believe someone else who owns a Porsche, would not even recognize their peers, especially in a GT2RS :scared: How is that even possible to own a Porsche and not knowing where you stand in the family :nervous: :dunce:

Ultimately whoever owns a GT2RS know who they are and doesnt really care what the next person would think, he would actually laugh at those fools for making such comment but who supposed to know better.

Quoted for greatness and truth.

When we got our most recent GT3 RS in at work, I heard about the GT2 RS being released and this is INSANE!!!! I don't know how many of you out there have driven a GT3 RS, but I have, and I couldn't imagine how fast that's going to be to be once they get done putting 2 turbos on there and dropping even MORE weight.
Anybody know why there's so many Porsche haters out there?? Because they've never driven one, that's why. And because it's not the most expensive car on the market.
I am very excited and I really hope somebody in the area rounds up about $240,000 and orders one so I get to drive it.

Was reading the SLS group test in EVO recently that includes the 997 Turbo S... the Turbo S performance figures were startling...

0-60 2.9s
0-100 6.8s

For perspective, that's 2s quicker to 100 than a GTR and around a second quicker than a 599.

The GT2RS might struggle to match the 0-60 as it's only 2WD, but beyond that it going to be monumentally fast... it has around 90bhp more than the Turbo S and is over 200kg lighter.

If it has the dymanics of the GT3RS to go with the performance it may very well be the greatest Porsche road car of all time.

Does anyone want to buy a kidney? Only £167k (added £3k as I doubt the rear tyres are going to last too long) ;)

I'd imagine your kidneys are very second hand Stotty ;) you might have to sell both and go on dialysis!

When's it out? I'm looking forward to the reviews but I doubt it'll make this series of Top/Fifth Gear

 Can you get portable dialysis machines? Or maybe Porsche would build one in to the car for me :D

I'm not really interested in the TV journo's opinions other than to see how fast Stig pedals in round the TG TT to get a feel for it's ultimate track pace.

None of them are serious motoring journolists anymore... Clarkson is just an attention seeking knob (though he is occassionaly funny). Hammond can't drive (and is never funny). Plato and Tiff are really only interested in larking about trying to prove who can go more sideways.

What I want to see is the opinion of Chris Harris, and possibly Steve Sutcliffe, Dickie Meaden or Andrew Frankel... these guys have massive experience of the Porsche range and really understand what they are about. Frankel's piece on the GT3RS in Total 911 was superb, and all of them have proven time and time again that they are drivers first and writters second.

I'm guessing an Evo short test won't be too far away... The car was at Goodwood last weekend and Chris may even have already driven it seeing as he's been practically living with the Porsche boys for the past few months on the lead up to the Nurburgring 24h race. Plus he got exclusive access to the GT3RS and the Classic before anyone else - he seems to have sort of become a Porsche UK spokesperson!

At least you'd be able to get to the hospital pronto :)

Totally agree about the TV shows, shame you can't mute the dialogue and just have the sound of the car...that goes for most motorsport too!

I'm sure Evo will get a go of one and post some videos, ideally they'll go and meet Francois Delecour again :D

I believe that 2.9s 0-60 was also with the automatic. Its quicker because they can brake-torque it and get the turbos spooled up.

A GT3 RS with the performance of a GT2 RS is for me personally the ultimate Porsche.
I don't like the front/rear bumper and the turbo inlets on the side of the turbo/GT2 version.

And people thought the current economy was going to kill off supercars. Hell no, they're just getting faster. :scared:

So...why aren't they putting it in GT1?
If you mean by FIA, someone besides Porsche has to want to run one & even then, the GT1 class is showing troubling times of competitors only running a 1-2 seasons before finding financial issues.

Honestly, the best place to be racing a car like this is still the GT2 category & that's what the RSR is for.

Que?

All the Turbo S's have the PDK dual clutch gearbox as standard... which is a benefit as far as gear change speeds as concerned.

But you can just as easily 'spool up the turbos' in a manual car by raising the revs before dumping the clutch... I'd expect the GT2RS to have some sort of launch control that will pre set the revs to the optimum level for super fast starts.

I actually believe a lot of the GT2 RS owners will try to hide what kind of car they are driving. People not knowing cars will think, a Porsche, oh there are so many of those.
But they guy/girl sitting behind that wheel going "What the @#!°°?::+" will know what they have.

Quite different from a Lamborghini or Ferrari, which make a different statement in the eyes of the general public!

Well my copy of Evo came through the door today, and I suggest everbody goes out and gets this months (although I'd actuallyu suggest getting it every month).

The Monley has driven the GT2 RS.
