Porsche Macan (huh?)

The Macan is not an Audi by any means. It sits on a chassis built by Porsche unlike the Cayenne which shares with VW and with the Q7. At least there putting the PDK in the Macan. Just on a funny note I saw a Mercedes commercial and they were claiming something like 1500 racing wins I laughed when I thought of Porsches 20000 plus wins. I am a little bias since I have been with Porsche for many years.

The Macan uses the Audi Q5 platform... though Porsche say only 30% of the components fitted to it are shared with the Audi.

I could be accused of disagreeing with you if we were discussing a matter of opinion... but the Macan using the Q5 platform is a fact

It is all free speech. lol. I have seen a lot of Q5 platforms and the underside of a Macan looks nothing like it. The 30 percent has to come from shared electronics.

Hang on, hang on. Isn't this just an Audi Q5 in Porsche drag?

It isn't. The Macan does borrow its underpinnings from Audi's middlemost SUV, but what's most interesting about the Porsche isn't how similar it is to the Q5, but how different. Porsche says two-thirds of the Macan's components are entirely original: in effect, only the aluminium base is shared with Audi.

Now stop arguing?

Sorry to be pedantic, but this statement is incorrect...

The Macan uses the Audi Q5 platform - its floorpan (ie; chassis), bulkheads and hardwear mounting points... this isn't an opinion, it's a fact, and one POrsche are happy to admit to.

In reality, the Macan is closer to a Q5 than the Cayenne is to a Q7. The Q7 uses a modified version of the VW Touareg/Cayenne platform - the Cayenne and Touareg share the same platform, but the Q7 uses a lengthened version to allow for 7 seats.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but not if that opinion if factually incorrect ;)

At least it doesn't use the god awful automatic Audi trans and braking system. I don't mind the v6 diesel but the rest had to go.

I just feel like it needs some kind of embellishment on the middle of the liftgate. Looks kind of plain. I'm not talking just badges or anything, but maybe some kind of piece or slat or some kind of geometric change.

Has that one been debadged? It looks OK normally with all the proper badges.

Also the side panel gap to the rear should mimic the panel gap to the front, it looks kinda weird like that and you see it really clear in white.

It's been debadged.

If the line from those reverse/turnsignal lights connected across the liftgate, it would look better

No. You guys brought the whole light across. The red stays where it is. Add a strip where the line between the red is.

Like this?

Close, but I'm talking about maybe a chrome or black strip with a "ledge" of bodywork there. I think it looks so weird to me as it is because there's nowhere for you to grab to open the liftgate.

So, my brother's Macan Turbo is crossing the Atlantic bound for Miami. Hope there are no big waves headed for the boat.

He's heard from a friend in corporate, the GTS is due in 2016 and the Turbo S not far behind. I'm waiting to hear about a GT2 and GT3 version for racing. May be the next big racing series. Baby SUVs from VW+PORSCHE+AUDI, Mazda, AMG, Jaguar, Lexus, NISMO, Land Rover. 👍

I SAW ONE OF THESE THE OTHER WEEK! It was a big Porsche SUV, big white one, I remember my dad saysing "Makan? What the hell is that?". I then had to tell him it was the Cheyenne replacement (It is that, isn't it?)

The Macan isn't a replacement for the Cayenne. It's a seperate smaller SUV model.

It's an Indonesian word for tiger.
