Makes you wonder how they got it so wrong in the first place.

The front has never been that big an issue... but the new hard line in the bumper definitely improves it. But it's the back that deserves the most praise... went from frumpy and dumpy to bold and... erh... bold with just a few simple changes... doesn't even look like they twiddled the chassis... simply added an actual hard rear deck, tweaked the roofline and added an extra rear-quarter window to soften the D-pillar.

Took them long enough to fix that rear end, I wonder if this will help sales? Or is it too late due to the CUV/SUV craze?

It went from gallstone to golly. Finally, something that looks right.

It was the same with the Cayenne and VW Touarag. The first attempts at a different market segment end up with lumpen looking, unhappy-in-their-skin vehicles.

Might it be a psychological trick? First you hook the social climbers on the idea that it's a real Porsche... and, by golly, yes, it does look like a misshapen 911 stretched to fit over a watermelon... then once everyone is used to the idea that this sad monstrosity is an actual Porsch-ay, make it look nicer, to convince everyone else that it's not a bad car, at all.

The market has moved on too much for this I fear, but one of these with a naturally-aspirated V8 and PDK would be just about perfect. My favourite Panamera by far is the existing GTS with that particular combo.

Has germany just decided that the hot V is the new way to go?

It will boost sales being a new car and all, but I think the years of moving 6,000+ units (in the US at least) are gone. They'll probably come close to 5,500 in the first available year.

The newer Porsche Panamera does look very charming. Not as elegant as the previous model, but it doesn't disappoint in the looks department. I've never hated the Panamera.

Are those touch sensitive buttons? A ******** of them? Well, Porsche just died to me as good interior designers...

Alright, the quad lamps are cool, but can we have a 928 now? Please?

 What? That interior looks amazing! If they work then it will be even better. Nothing wrong with touch sensitive buttons, it's just like tapping a GPS on regular cars.

If anybody can pull off a interior design with actually well-functioning capacitive buttons, it's most likely Porsche.
I really, really like the overall redesign of both the exterior and interior. Improving on everything without completely throwing away the previous design language and still recognisably a Porsche Panamera. Well done!

Oh, and it's fast.

You’re looking at 0-62mph in just 4.2 seconds for the 4S and a manic 3.6 seconds for the Turbo, so long as you option the Sport Chrono Pack. The 4S tops out at 180mph, and the Turbo at 190mph. Oh, and the Turbo also managed a 7min 38sec Nurburgring lap time.

The oil-burner meanwhile will dispatch the 0-62mph sprint in 4.3 seconds. It’s also the world’s fastest production diesel, with its 177mph top speed comfortably ahead of the 171mph on offer in the previous record-holder - the Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo

So, what does the diesel do at the 'Ring?

-

That wing is the bomb. They ought to make something similar for the GT3RS.

Not tested probably, but I do imagine it to be stupidly quick around the ring for a diesel.
