I might be imagining things, but couldn't you used to test drive cars straight out of the dealership? Or was that never a thing?

i belive seasonals were updated with ingame updates for gt5 but without any screen pop up, i can tell because i have a very slow connection & everytime there was a new seasonals it would take 2-3minutes before it would get to game menu , or sometimes i would get an error that i cant connect to server.
same thing happens now with GT6 when i cant download in-game update due to slow connection

the only difference is now you get a messeage about it in game.
I don't remember there being one two weeks ago when the previous seasonals went live.

Love the new seasonals... just did the scirocco one... biggest challenge ever in gt6... no aids on except abs... oh and before you tell me I'm crap at driving or something of the sort... STOCK scirocco.
EDIT; ok all gold now using stock cars... the last two where quite easy :(... 2nd run with ktm and 3rd run with nsx due to some mistakes caused an invalidated lap

I thought there was some install glitch as each day after the 1.03 install, I've had a notification that a new update is required.
Nothing on the official GT website about what these "ninja" updates are about.
Guess it's nothing to worry about. Seems everyone is having them also.

That was GT5. GT6 lacks that for some reason.
You sure it was in GT5? I don't remember it being in there. I was sure it was in GT6 at the start though. This is what happens when we get updates with no patch notes. Just flailing around blinding in the dark trying to figure out what PD messed up this time...

Hmm, GT5 had that preview thing, didn't it? Where the car just went along this long straight with the bad camera switches? Have not touched GT5 in a while so I might be wrong. Sorry.
In GT6 you can test drive from the garage area, not the dealer.

Ahh yeh I knew you could preview it. I guess you're right maybe just test drive from your garage. I wish you could test it out of the dealership, would love that.

Agreed. Test drives would've prevented a few questionable purchases for sure.

I honestly think that they don't want a record of their "mistakes" (bugs) anywhere, so they just don't say anything.

Kind of like closing your eyes, and thinking the world disappears.. Who knows. That's the vibe I get from Kaz and PD though.

Honestly, I get the same vibe - although I won't go so far as attribute it to individuals.

Personally, coming from the PC side of things, I love change logs, because quite obviously they tell you what to expect from an update.

It's not uncommon for people to stay with older versions because they dislike some "fix" or other. I guess PD (Sony, more likely) want people to have the most up to date version, always - so why tell players what's in it if there's a chance they won't want it?

For the online distribution aspect, i.e. DLC, microtransactions, it is no doubt imperative that people have the latest version. There might be other "embarrassment" issues (e.g. with bugs, exploits etc.) driving that imperative, too.

The detective work is kind of fun, in a way, though - and very impressive! :gtpflag:

And in the game.

The updates don't add seasonal events. They never did updates in GT5 to do weekly seasonal events.
Actually that's exactly what these micro updates are for mostly. They learned they needed a better CMS tool for GT 6 that they control independent of the core code. Updates can also be invisible as they could que up events, publish to the builds, but simply not turn them live until they decide.

It makes (non live or published updates) us all go into placebo effect mode and start over analyzing.

And just so everyone else better understands, CMS = content management system. Google it for more details.

I noticed during a night race at Le Mans, that other AI cars now have casting lights.
Headlights?! I was watching the auto demo yesterday and it still kills me that only the "focal" car has casting headlights... This would be great indeed!!!

It would be just as easy to reduce brightness by 50% on the AI, remove their shadows (AI) as that's less obvious, and get a better effect.

Will not happen. "Behavior" like that is constantly dragging down the quality of discussion on GTPlanet for last 5 years.

I am not an sociologist or psychologist to make a professional-assesment about it, but in my opinion it has to do with overall change of approach in communication on the internet, especially on various boards that are not GTPlanet - and spill-over effect of aforementioned behavior that flooded the GTP in the times when GT5: Prologue released and when overall "online-related" contents became a reality.

In the past, we were all very aware of shortcomings of either GT4: Prologue or GT4, but we had dedicated threads to discuss those, while in the same time there was no flooding of various "rinse-repeat" subjects nor similar "flaming" behavior. We had dedicated threads to discuss problems and opinions about sounds, AI, incorrect specs, whishlists, whatever... and all members respected that, there was no creation of similar treads with similar subjects every 2 days and people were using both "search" functionality as well as actually going through board-pages to find the threads about the subjects they were interested to participate.

It all went to hell since GT5: P and it is going worse and worse with each year IMO. You simply can't start any normal, objective or positive discussion about anything without serious derailing with commentaries that only bring negativity or highlight some either subjective or objective problematic aspect of the game. Posters simply jump-in the tread and start their own negative campaign about some issue that is - in 99% of the examples - either already known, already discussed to death 10000 times or it is simply something that does not belong to particular discussion.

When such poster is challenged by other posters who does not want to see their thread derailed, the flamewar begins. He defends his position of "constructive criticism" or "free speech" or "purchaser entitlement", often arguing for pages and pages because he gets caught into quoting-fight and whole thread gets derailed to nowhere.

Just make a quick search about topic-title subject such as: sound (58 threads!), AI, bugs & glitches.. whatever keyword you choose there is at least 5 similar threads with span of less then one month discussing the same subject all over again.

Rinse and repeat.

I presume all GTP regulars are aware of examples for every aforementioned "behavior" so I do not want to waste time into finding examples of it, but I think all of us know what we're talking about. But ultimately, such behavior is deeply deconstructive, it creates vast chaos in readability of the forum and at the end it discourages any positive discussion. I do not know how many times have I read about something called "GT apologists", "Kaz private army", "GT defenders" or whatever aimed at people that simply tried to keep some discussion in boundaries of subject or were either giving explanations of some design-decisions that somebody personal didn't like or trying to say how "constructive criticism" discussion is going on in some other thread.

What is also most problematic IMO is how such behavior discourages discussions that would benefit the GT series in the long term, giving the proven fact how PD has specialized people that visit GTP regularly in search of comments, bug reports or simply feedback about something. Such "behavior" is ultimately killing the visibility need for such practice (for example, we have 5 different threads discussing "endurance" races glitch that came with 1.03 on first 2 pages of the OT)

Also, Phil_75, with above I do not accuse you personally for described "behavior" because I didn't check your post history ATM, I was simply writing in general way.

EDIT: Andrew, I didn't see your post above, I was typing this. You took away my context, damn :)
Thank you for posting this! I have been wanting to say the same for a while now and could not have said it better myself. I am very discouraged with visiting this place where I want to share and discuss a game I am enjoying very much with like minded, and the few positive and great threads here (like the "how I got myself off driving aids" one) as well as the forum in general, are being dragged down by the ridiculously overwhelming negativity. I am personally getting sick of all of the armchair PD managers here talking about what they should be working on and how they should be allocating their time/resouces. Really?

I hope the moderators are going to continue to enforce this 'keeping the complaints/ criticism in the threads/ sub forums where they belong.

I don't know about others, but as a grown man who deals with problems/complaining/negativity in my daily work and parenting life as it is, I play this game and visit this site TO ENJOY MYSELF and get away from drudgery of the real world (not enter a virtual version of the same crap).
